General Car Talk Discussion Thread
Usually those ads pop up when you're not logged in, but now they do when you're logged in as well. That's what happens when the forum gets sold
So GM got back to our auto club and they have this for us to test drive. Each driver that was randomly selected gets to keep the car for 48hrs I believe. Anyway I was one of them selected (most are undergrads and dont meet the 21+ requirement
)
Anyway they gave us a manual... being that i've never owned a manual car or driven one outside a parking lot I'm not taking the manual option. Cause I'm living in LA and learning to drive a $46k is not worth it if I mess up somewhere and am responsible.
Anyway I'll still get the guy messaged me saying thats fine, they will give us the auto a ltl later on. But I may or may not get the V8 since its whats available at the time.
fml... why dont i know how to drive a manual!!!
Here's the first car we're getting btw.

Ahh i see. Well I'm driving a corolla right now, sooooo i'll be much happier for those few days lol. Other than that, theres my 00' Acura Tl, my moms 08' Accord V6 I've driven extensively.
I've had short drives with a Tesla Model S, BMW 7, CTS-V (LA auto show, so the streets were busy and no fun), GTI.
So having it for some time will definitely be nice. I'll be sure to take it to Mulholland
Hopefully I have the time, or I'll do my best to make it. Maybe a PCH cruise? I dunno gotta find some people that are down as well.

Learn to drive manual!
It took me about an hour to get the hang of it in a Mustang GT. I think if you're eager, it won't take long to learn.
Even in auto, that sounds like it'll be fun! I got to drive some auto Camaros, the HUD is one of its coolest features.

BUT I NEED TO LEARN MANUAL!!!
My question was more rhetorical than not. I guess my post was something of a protest against the incursion of ads disguised as discussion threads. It's one thing to have a banner ad at the top of the page, it just strikes me as a different (and intrusive) animal to get down into the thread index like that.

But, in all seriousness, you'll get the hang of it quickly after a couple of times. Best way is to find a nice used car...any car...with manual. I learned on an old Pontiac Sunfire a friend owned...

I know the gist of it.

A Camaro SS would actually be really easy to learn on. I would guess the clutch is relatively light on those, and even if you just clutch out with no gas, the car will keep on going on its own. Just keep traction control on
I can let you try on my car :P

I first learned it on my bro in law's 06 Mustang GT and then 06 BMW M3. I feel like those cars were easier to drive than my MS3.
Probably said it before but, while my Supra wasn't the first MT car I ever drove, it's the first one I owned. And, my experience was very limited. So I had to take a friend with me to pick it up, so he could drive it home.
first MT car I drove: '74 Beetle. 2nd: '88 Acura Legend Coupe. and 3rd was my Supra.

I'm in dtla currently. That'd be cool!

That's what I assumed. I've driven on an 04 civic, and a 1st gen xb. The civic was pretty easy. I didn't stall, but I take my time getting into gear

My Z28 had a relatively heavy stock flywheel, so it was hard to stall. Revs drop slowly. Lot of low end torque, so it's easy to get up and start moving. IMO a Z06 isn't even that hard to drive, the clutch isn't as stiff as you think it would be.
Hard to drive? Any car with an aftermarket 6-puck clutch and a lightened flywheel. Can make even driving an Integra a pain. Back when I was 130 lbs soaking wet I'd have to lift my butt off of the seat to press the clutch all the way in.

I think I mostly agree with this list. I definitely agree with #1. The 5GT is hideous!
Car buyers today have it made. Almost every segment and price point includes vehicles to satisfy not only the driving enthusiast but also the design aficionado. Indeed, high-end brands like Audi and Ferrari are well known for winning designs, but even mainstream players like Ford and Kia now boast lineups full of attractive and tastefully styled vehicles. Not every automaker is created equal, however. Any combination of unrestrained creative ambition, manufacturing and/or packaging constraints, and poor executive decision making can birth an ugly ride. This is our list of today’s worst offenders, ranked in order of onerousness.
