General Car Talk Discussion Thread
Just went to Lexus dealership to show GS to my wife.
The salesman gave us a special lease deal on it, but I don't know if it's a good deal or not. Never leased a car before.
MSRP was around 59k (fulled loaded+F sport)
$3k down
$550 monthly pay
10k miles per year
33 months program
$35k buyout at the end
Is this pretty good deal?

...you should know that Rule #1 of
-ness is to NEVER lease a depreciating asset. But, hey...your $$.
I would wait, though. December 2 Remember is coming next month & that's when they'll really be handing out their best deals of the year.

What other motorsports movies are there that are comparable? Besides Rush I guess?
Well, here's the list...and no way I've seen all of those...but, of the ones I've watched, Senna takes the cake.

Toyota slammed by Consumer Reports as Audi surges
Audi, which for years has struggled to improve the dependability of its cars and SUVs, is rated among the most reliable brands in a new survey by Consumer Reports.
Perennially strong Japanese brands were named seven of the 10 most reliable, but Consumer Reports pulled three popular Toyota models from its recommended list due to their performance in crash tests. The survey also raised questions about Nissan, which fell nine spots to 22nd. Ford continued to struggle, ranking 26th out of 28 brands.
Meanwhile, the Tesla Model S electric car's first review painted a mixed picture. The model received an above average reliability rating with very few complaints about the battery system; however, as production has increased, so have the number of issues.

Nissan already tried that...it didn't work out so well.
Wife's Avant needed to get some type of service done to it. Scheduled an appointment last week, they promised that she would receive a loaner car since the service may take couple days to finish.
She just called and yelled at me that the dealer told her to pay for the loaner car which was a Toyota Corolla. And apparently the dealer drove her to the local rental car shop to do this and just left.
Is this how it's usually done? Not really sure what the Audi loaner car policy is. Googling didn't really give me an definitive answer..

Oh I called the dealership and blasted the service guy who was on the phone, he said it's because all the loaner cars are out already. But I did tell him that I made an appointment last week to make sure she gets the car. The guy said he's sorry and will check with the manager and call me back. Still haven't received the call from them.
It's Downtown LA Audi. We bought the car there.

So, they just called her back and have a loaner ready for her.
Great that they are stepping it up, but she wasted about 2 hours today just for this crap.
Anyway, they inspected the car and said the car was burning oil a little more than it should, so they are going to change the oil pump or something. Not too sure. My wife talked to them. But it's all covered by the warranty. Takes about 3 days.

I think it depends on the dealer. The one time my Accord was at a dealership, they were out of loaners, so they drove us to a rental company which got us a car absolutely free. Other places I've been to sometimes charge a flat fee for the loaner.
That's good to hear.
I have a techie question about flywheels. On MT cars, they're intentionally weighted to make shifts smoother and control revs, right? So do AT cars have as light a flywheel as possible (cost not being a factor)?
