I would personally get a MX-5 over this in a heartbeat, even if it drives nicely.

I'm no longer interested in buying a LFA. not if the front end could be mistaken for a $20k car.

alright now let's see... here's how it goes down in my book (just going through these photos):

front: B
rear: B+
headlights: B+
front turn signals and assembly: D
wheels: D
taillights: C-
exhaust tips and diffuser area: C- (unecessary i.e. of the 'rice' flavor)
interior: C-

honestly, I'd have to call this a poor - very poor - man's LFA. even the stitching and other cues in the interior resemble it. not the general dash design, though.

At least in the latest pictures I saw they blacked out the tails versus the Altezza look.

Looks better but the whole car is still bland and disappointing compared to the concept.

But aren't those all significantly more expensive? Except for maybe the Miata, but I think this is in a different class. Much more practical.

I think it's more like the 7th grade girl who got the most attention because she was more developed than others

I realize there are a lot of people out there that want a new car and not a used one but $22k buys a lot of car these days.

If we're comparing it to used cars as well, that's an entirely different proposition. But remember this car will be sold for used eventually too.

I'm just saying that as a consumer, there is nothing about that car that interests me. If they had kept the FT-86 the way it was, I would be a lot more inclined towards buying it.

And that's too bad as there aren't many RWD coupes under $30k. I would definitely get a Genesis base 2.0T for $23,100 before either the Subie or the Scion.

Agreed. I'm still disappointed they dropped the more aggressive front fascia from the concept though. I don't see why that didn't make it into production.

No all those cars start at around 22k.

And remember this price hasn't even been released yet. They are "aiming" for low 20's. There's no saying that it will be mid? Also the subaru is expected to start at like 28k? Thats pretty high.

I saw that yesterday. I wonder how long the batteries last

I used to have an E-Maxx. I loved that thing, but the batteries lasted about 20 minutes. Thats why I switched to nitro, and built a 4-Tec. It was the regular model that I tore it apart and rebuilt it with carbon fiber and aluminum everything. I didn't have a place to run it at full speed, as soon as I hit second gear Id have to shut it down. I sold it about 7 years ago and used the money to buy my first car

MSRP on that particular car is $1900, but its selling for around $1200. Too rich for my blood, plus I have nowhere to run it.

If I did have $400 that I had absolutely no idea what to do with, Id get the 3.3 Jato. Its a 2WD truck, I can use that all over the place.

I'm sold on the BRZ, if it hits that price target of 24k lol.

No options needed.

I could have gotten a base GTI for the same price, but adding options which it kinda needs now, adds 2 grand. And that car can't be found anywhere for under 27k, at least its hard.

There was no way in hell a company like Toyota would release a production car with a front end as aggressive as this:

Just wasn't gonna happen, sorry.

Btw, I love how our arguments for the BRZ and FRS are spread over 3 threads I'm having trouble remembering where I put my stuff!

heh, yeah. This car is getting a lot of hype, which is a good thing period. I still think we all need to reserve judgment until we see it in person several times. I just wanted to throw that out there to all the ".... but it doesn't look like the concept!" comments. When was the last time you've seen a car that really looked like the concept other than the new Camaro? And even then, I think the new Camaro should have had a much more grown up interior and with smaller dimensions.

and really, I think the rear on the production car looks better than the rear on any of the concepts. The triangular rear fog light is the only thing that looks truly odd.

On a serious note though, I do agree with you Costco. I loved the concept, but never expected Toyota/Subaru to put out a car that looked like that. I was honestly expecting worse from them, but I do like the production model.

This is the one problem I have with concept cars.

If you base a production car off an attractive but unrealistic concept car, the production car loses many of the concept's attractiveness and many times doesn't flow with the production aspects of a car.

I wish automakers would just design the production model from scratch, so that they can guarantee that the car that ends up on dealer lots always looks good.

agreed, at this point, carmakers should not be doing this. they should have learned from the past. there are some that have learned though (like BMW) and others.

I dont think BMW has learned...

lets wait till the i8 and i3 come out though before we go into that. Is everyone going to be raging that it wont look like the concept either. I wouldnt care and honestly you shouldnt compare production cars to concepts, compare it to other production cars!

And toyobaru looks better than the accord coupe, civic coupe, miata and genesis.

He's a local here in Dallas. Has a very close relationship with the company; raced a 917 at Le Mans back the day.
