Interesting what those people do to their flashes, but their photos are simply amazing.
well.. SINCE you asked.. I had a curious thing happen after posting all 320 pictures from NYE party to my Facebook... I started getting random requests to do weddings. I mean, from people I don't know. I got several within the following week. And so, I figure if I start doing that, I'll get a 7D pretty quick. I would even probably want one before shooting any wedding at all, with my luck the 5's shutter will decide to die during the ceremony.
so yeah, fingers crossed!
Lots of people hate on Facebook - but it's got to be the best marketing tool ever. Post your pics, people start tagging the pics, other people start seeing em, and you get this ginormous network. It's a super platform.

BUT I hope you're not joking because I will definitely take you up on that offer if the need arises... It would be nice to be able to offer a 2nd photographer, if needed. And most importantly someone who's work I like.
I can't think of ANYONE in CHI area I would want to work with - and I know a pretty good number of event photogs.
Man I need better friends to goto conventions with.
All the photos they took of me with porn stars have poor composition, focused on the wrong spot (focused on BG), shot in landscape and only got faces.

3 AZ photogs, assembled in CHI to cover a wedding! now that would be something.
nice to look through, if you have some time.

Any thoughts on material to use for a seamless white background sweep with tabletop still life stuff? Velvet of some sort from the local fabric store should do fine for a black background. The thing that has me scratching my head is what to use for a white background. Since this is tabletop stuff I have in mind, I'm concerned that any texture in white cloth would "catch" directional lighting and become visible.

Yeah, Lastolite makes those sorts of things for people-sized shots. It's called their HiLite product. I'm open to attempting a DIY small scale version but again, I'd be at a loss where to find the right type of translucent white material for the front and the reflective material for the back and insides.
Quite true. If it's blown out, it's blown out. I just still feel bit of the blindfolded throwing darts thing. In this case though it would be for finding material that's sufficiently translucent for the lighting I'd have available instead of something that wouldn't show a texture if front-lit.
Speaking of "lit". You gotta love the t-shirt Zack Arias throws in if you order one of his training DVDs.
