Completely off topic. I can relate to this in every sense of the message. I went to school to be a Physicist. While applying to grad school I had a buddy tell me to get into nuclear power. The money is more than I would ever make as a PhD world class physicist. Even with that said, I still am highly upset I didn't follow my dreams.

Often when you set goals before going into something, you set naive goals. Although it's not a bad thing, the goal was set without much knowledge of what it takes to get there.
So I don't think you missed your goal. You set out to take club pictures and you did get to take a whole lot. But I think touring with a big name DJ takes more than great photography; it probably takes great networking.

Vermont Rep. Figures Out a Way to Waste More Taxpayer Money and Possibly Harm Photographers
http://www.thephoblographer.com/2013...photographers/
http://www.thephoblographer.com/2013...photographers/
“AN ACT RELATING TO MAKING IT ILLEGAL TO TAKE A PHOTOGRAPH OF A PERSON WITHOUT HIS OR HER CONSENT, OR TO MODIFY A PHOTOGRAPH OF A PERSON WITHOUT HIS OR HER CONSENT, AND TO DISTRIBUTE IT”
This bill seems to have broad implications, which I do not think were considered. It does not only affect street photographers and people on vacation. It has me wondering, will journalists not be allowed to take pictures at public events? How will it be enforced? How much taxpayer money will be wasted on this?
Many images created of people without their permission have become iconic because they were shot in public. For example if a law like this had been in place in the past, many of our ‘This week in Photography History’ post would not exist. I hope that this bill will not be passed. A law like this should not be a priority with even more pressing issues happening,

Well it turned out my photography hobby didn't last too long. I sold my Sigma 8-16 today to fund my supercharger. I think I'll be much happier investing in my automotive hobby since I use my car literally every day.
I really almost pulled the trigger on plenty of lens like the Sigma 35, 70-200 IS, 70-300L IS, 135 (buying it again cause I liked it so much when I had it), and some lighting equipment.
I'll still shoot here and there, especially at car events. Maybe in the future I'll return and go all out

I gave up modding my TL when I got back into photography. My though was I don't keep cars long enough to mod anymore. That was my '06 TL, that I still have with less than 69k.
I won't have it long though. Looks like a 2010 or 2011 Pilot will fill that spot in 30 days or so.

Not judging how your spend your money, but I cannot justify paying off a car only to sell it and make more payments on another car. I've had the TSX since 2007 and will keep it until the engine falls off on its own.
Investing in multiple cars is a huge hit every time because cars depreciate like no other.
Photography on the other hand holds their value extremely well. I bought the Sigma for $500 and sold it for the same amount.

for me it was a combination of several things. Back in 2008 when my dad passed away, I went through a phase and just didn't work, I couldn't afford my place in Dana Point so, I moved home to be with my mom for awhile. There were no room for my stuff at her house so I went got a storage unit. It ended up getting broken into and I go at least $12k worth of home theater equipment stolen (personally, I think it was an inside job with the people that ran the place). Anyway, of the $12k worth of things stolen, the insurance cut me a check that wasn't even $2k... with part of that money I bought my first dslr. Not thing fancy just an entry model Sony and kit lens
But I didn't even fully get into photography at that point, it was just more or less something I had been wanting to buy. Later that year, I got fully got into paintballing. I absolutely LOVED it (and I still do and miss it). The addiction got really bad where I was buying high end markers that would cost $1200 (most of the time I bought used ones). I was paintballing on a weekly basis. And no, it ain't a cheap hobby either.
In 2010, I moved to Vancouver for personal reasons, and where I live, basically Downtown Vancouver, I'm pretty far from the nearest paintball field. Or at least any good ones. Not to mention, that it's EVEN MORE expensive to play up here. In SoCal, I had hookups to gear and paintball... here, no hookups and cost more... so I decided to quite for now. When I first got here, I had no friends, and so I basically just went around taking pictures... from there it just led to buying one high end lens to another. Eventually buying a full frame and so on and so on.
I miss paintballing a lot... especially lately... went I go home next time, I DO plan on returning with some of my gear so I can play once and awhile up here.

^ But aren't you just constantly paying monthly for a car your whole life? I just think not having to pay the extra hundreds of dollar per month is a relief.

I said it on my FB but I'll say it here again: this lens is the GT-R of the DSLR world, essentially. This lens is a manufacturer getting unlazy and making some real innovation. Well done Sigma, well done.
This will force other manufacturers to follow suit - they will have one for FF soon down the road.

An 18-35mm 1.8 for FF probably not, but a 24-70 1.8 more Probable
IMO.
And I doubt this lens will be cheap and worth the money.

Thanks, Miz, for the post on the lenses (starring in particular) I didn't know a higher aperture made lights appear like that. Good to know

all work and no play
my other Kingston CF card fucked me the other day, luckily this was just a few pics that I shot at an Arboritum in Boston this weekend, not half a fucking trip like the last one.
This one is recognizable by the computer, and I can sometimes get into and see the files. I was able to grab two of them on the third try, but thats been it so far.
I'm not sure how it even ended up in the camera, Ive been a little gunshy about it since the first one failed. Time to call B&H and see if they can do anything for me.
