I wonder what a crop with JUST the wall (no sky no ground tiles) would look like?

a really slow shutter speed.

in his case a 5 second exposure.

because of the slow shutter the lights create a trailing effect.

Strange that everyone is in focus yet the lights are the only thing that is blurry.

2nd curtain flash?

Shutter opens, sensor exposes for 4.5 seconds and THEN flash fires as shutter closes, freezing the last, darker in this case, thing seen.

thanks bud, yeah I've been really trying to expand on my knowledge of B&W processing and taking specific shots that shine in B&W

It's something I tried for the first time only this year (kinda strange since many club photogs do that). Anyways, there's two ways to do it (that I know of). In regular flash mode (no curtain option set), you set a long exposure (such as 5s) and then you frame your photo and hit the shutter - the flash fires and the photo of the frozen subject is taken, but the shutter remains open - so now you move the camera around in whatever way you want to capture the light trails until the shutter closes.

The second way is by setting 2nd curtain on your flash. When you do it this way, you start moving the camera around right after you hit the button and then frame the shot before the flash fires, which occurs at the end of the exposure. I kinda forgot but I'm pretty sure I do it the first way, but I think I've tried it both ways, depending on how inebriated I am.

you can get double-exposure effects with this as well, like in this photo the silhouette on the left is the girl on the right -
