Went up to the Mountain last night since where still close to new moon and got a pretty nice pano of the Milky way, was pretty happy with the end result. The green near the Mountain is either air glow or Aurora Not sure which but it adds a nice touch for sure

This is 9 vertical shot pano

I recently picked up a Nikon D5300...I'm a DSLR newb, still trying to figure it all out. I'm also into astronomy, and will use it for astrophotography as well...Bear with me here...some pics I shot:

I don't remember the settings, I think it was 1/60 and ISO 800:

It wasn't a great pic, and I was limited in time. These pics are unedited - Mars:

Saturn:

...and I went for a cruise with some friends on Sunday to Bear Mountain, snapped a few shots up by Perkins Memorial:

This is the only pic I edited...I happen to like taking candid shots of people, I feel like such a stalker!

A friend suggested removing the people in the background to make it better, soooo

I won't post them all, but I will post some of my faves:

I have a Celestron Nexstar 8SE Telescope, and bought the necessary adapters to mount the DSLR directly onto the scope. The downside being I can only use a Barlow 2x/3x/5x lens and not any of the other lenses, so I can't get much closer than that with the DSLR connected to it to take pics. Otherwise when looking through the viewfinder, it's pretty amazing!

I'm planning to get a CCD camera for even more awesome astrophotography...

I bought it about 2 years ago...It was originally purchased as a kit, which included a few lenses and filters, and a "power tank", which is a high powered flashlight with a bunch of connectors and power sources to use the scope out in the wild where there's no power, or your batteries go dead (It takes 8 AA batteries to power it, OR you can connect it to the Power Tank which is a rechargeable 12V power source). I actually spoke about it in a thread in Ramblings back then, it was a birthday present for my wife (though I seemingly use it more than she does because she claims she needs me to show her how to use it )...The best advice given was to scour fleabay, CL, etc for people that bought the telescope thinking they would use it, end up not, and sell it, which is what I found. I forget the exact figures, but I think the scope with accessories kit would have been like $1,300, and I picked it up for, if I recall, somewhere in the $700-$800 range.

The adapter for the DSLR to the scope is probably the cheapest thing I bought, which is about $20 for the 1.25" connector, and Nikon Lens adapter for about $8. The CCD camera can be as little as $200, to as much as over $1,500. I have since bought probably an additional $300-$400 in accessories for it, though...there's no end with these things!

Here's a site that sells a similar kit to what I have: http://www.highpointscientific.com/c..._GwcZlH2PD_BwE

Cool shot PTTL!

Slick, I really like the composition and the lighting Maybe it's Flickr but the right side of the image (shaded side) seems a bit softer than the lighted side.

If you mean the light trails - that is a result of it being a 10 second exposure.

Settings:
iso 100
ƒ/9.0
10 seconds
Spot metering
Manual mode.

Thanks, I think I should of sharpened it a bit more. The left side now looks a bit soft also.

I'm messing around with CS6, why can't they make this easy!??!?!

I took a break from it. I'm trying to blend in the other lightening into this shot. I missed a couple really strong ones because I was chimping.

Yeah, I'm slowly getting hang of it. Was very confusing until I started watching vids and practicing. I still don't know what the heck I'm doing. lol

Here the finish edit of the shot I posted earlier, CC welcomes.
