took some baby photos for friends of mine yesterday in Anaheim... then concert in Hollywood later

I'm very pleased with the Sony NEX 5n... I was able to get in with the 16mm "pancake" lens. The security said, as long as it's NOT "professional type cameras and you can't change the lens on it". I acted stupid and just showed him my 5n with the pancake lens palmed so all he saw was the screen... and he just said... "oh, yeah... that's fine"

the first 3 are @3200ISO, the mosh pit was @1600ISO

splendid Ken!

I'm so glad to hear security people still don't know about quality small cameras. :p

hopefully it stays that way.

yeah, as you can see... I was at the very front... and between bands, the security guy was taking pictures for the people up front (like group photos), so it's obvious they are pretty cool with cameras... (even though it says on the ticket that no cameras are allowed). I heard it's also the discretion of the bands/artists too... if they choose NOT to allowed ANY cameras at all... they can tell the security people and that's pretty it... But with cell phones now with 8MP and higher, I think they are letting go of that mentality

I'm pretty sure had I mounted any lens bigger tho... it would've been obvious that it's a camera with interchangeable lenses... it would've been a risk... which is another reason why I really didn't have a choice to get myself up to the very front, because otherwise, with the 16mm... I wasn't going to get much (of the bands). Plus, it was just damn fun to be up front

It's funny how you talk about security Ken, when I went to first heat game, they are super anal about professional cameras. I had to liierally explain to them if I am seating in the nose bleeders seats hoe the hell am I going to get good shots with this kind of zoom lens.

Aw, thanks Jeff!

No, the groom is an avid cyclist and they were going for a French flower market sort of feel, so they painted a couple of bikes and decorated them with baskets of flowers purely for aesthetic purposes.

Thanks! I love that one, too. I'm already enjoying processing this wedding because they did such a lovely job with the decor, wardrobe, location, etc. It was gorgeous. It was a long, difficult day, but the couple was beyond awesome. Genuinely good people to be around all day.

I have a piece of welding glass that I used as a 10 stop ND filter. The welding glass is greenish in tint so it throws the color off. I wanted to take a shot of moving clouds and water and grass. It was windy yesterday but wasnt a cloud in the sky. Anyway, this is what I ended up with - you can see the motion in the grass and trees. I couldnt find a really interesting composition so I am not ready to give up yet but thought I would share this one. If I were to add noise you would say it looks like it was taken 80 years ago...

I had picked up an old Yashica D. I had to do a bit of a restoration on it and took it all apart to fix a timing issue on the shutter. It turned out to be a fun little distraction. Here are 2 test shots. The quality is a little poor as these are 600dpi scans of prints. Best results would be found from scanning the negatives at something like 4800dpi but I was impatient.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlatimer/7508689760/http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlatimer/7508689760/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/jlatimer/, on Flickr

Edit: FYI. I did a quick bump on contrast and adjusted things a bit to compensate for the washout from the scan of the print

Yeah. I like it. The guy I took the film to for developing is a someone I have never used before. He did a great job. Every shot was exposed perfectly... I know I didn't expose perfectly for each shot . He took the time to make sure the print looked right.

Those are neat pics. If I didn't know I would've guessed they were taken 10+ years ago.
