Granted it's steel wool so you get lots of sparks, instead of with an LED light where it's just the lines, but you get the idea.

This is a 'steady' photo but I only realized rather recently that taking a photo like that at 1/6 doesn't necessarily require 'skill' in holding a camera steady. This is because of the way the flash works (and this is how I've been shooting since when I started doing the club work ('06) - I just didn't notice what was really going with the flash, I only realized this in January, when I tried studio flashes for the first time). When you hit the shutter, the pre-flash goes off, and then the shutter opens and exposes the image. Right before the shutter closes, the primary flash light goes off (and of course this is switchable with 1st or 2nd curtain, I tend to primarily use 2nd curtain). And when the main flash goes off, that's when it freezes the subjects so they have no motion. So, it doesn't matter that the shutter was open for 1/6th of a second prior to that, since that was only letting the ambient / surrounding light in.

Nice pic dude.

IMO, I think that pic is setup well for a tilt-shift effect. If it were cropped just above the trees and just below the jeep liberty with the tilt shift effect applied at the self-park sign I think it would look awesome. What do you think?

Nice. I like it. I wouldn't call it fake Tilt/Shift, just done in post processing. Is HDR done in PP fake?

well, I personally designate and point out it's fake T/S just so people know I did it in PP and not using a real T/S lens. This is primarily because it's an inevitable question that is asked, otherwise. Also because I want people to know I am not using a T/S lens to get that effect. HDR is not really comparable, as that is always the result of software or processing, even the in-camera ones. The effect of a T/S lens, on the other hand, is the pure result of hardware and physical adjustment of the lens.

sorry, I didn't mean to use the word 'pure' in there as if to insinuate that methods other than hardware-based ones are impure or fake. And, I don't mean to say that it's a fake T/S effect as if that's something bad. It's not. We are living in the digital age, there are innumerable ways of editing and processing photos, that is a fact and that is here to stay.

I agree with Rubin about designating something as done via software rather than in-camera. Just like people add blur or bokeh. Usually you can tell it's not done "naturally," and I appreciate the artist being up-front about it.

Yeah, that really turned out to be my favorite. We did 3 different spots and 3 different configurations.

This first config was my idea...to have the cars arranged in the form of our intake manifolds...then the damn additional white car showed up and threw off the balance...and yet it work out great, and gave me the best shot of the day.

You would have all loved to see how I was shooting the high angle shots.....

Ghetto....tripod FULLY extended to its limits...10 second timer...fast shutter and holding it straight up as steady as I possibly could.

I really wish we could have taken the time to really straighten out the cars, impatient owners and all.

Ha, that must have been a funny site. I picked up a cheap RF remote whose base sits in the hot shoe for just such an instance.

I don't think there is any issue with stating whether its straight from the camera of PP. I just didn't think he was being fare to himself by calling it fake. He is absolutely correct about saying we are in a digital age, and things are simply different now. Either way I think that picture in question came out great.
