I've been getting more aggressive with processing some of my photos this last month... Here's one from this past weekend.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ep_jhu/4556956375/" title="The American Dream by ep_jhu, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4006/4556956375_8217a9f57e_b.jpg" width="1024" height="1024" alt="The American Dream" /></a>

Tried as an HDR, but liked this better.

Awesome picture.

Looking at it, I almost want to know the history of the house and how it became the way it is now.

Love the processing einsatz - it really suits your subject.

JS + MS3 - that's one of my favorite things about photography..slowing down to notice the details. Nice shot.

I borrowed a co-workers Olympus camera during lunch one day and I took this shot.

Days later I bought a lens for my Nikon and took this shot

Nice, but when shooting reds you need to back off the exposure some so you don't blow the highlights. Reds and whites will do that.

They are not completely blown out my monitor, but there's detail missing. It's something I miss almost every time I shoot.

I usually bring the luminance down (just a smidge) on my red channel to bring back a little detail. I hate the way they blow out. It's very difficult to balance when you have other colors in the shot, especially in bright sunlight. I agree with srika, though, that particular image still shows lots of petal detail on my monitor. Nice work, Adri.

Yeah I can see detail in the red too. And, I really like this pic, because its just the right balance of red - it's vibrant and bright, but at the same time not noticeably processed or corrected for that tendency to blow out. Something you don't see too often, usually red flowers are understated or you can tell they have been adjusted / corrected in post.

She didn't really like this shot, but I figured I'd keep it and touch it up for her to see her 2nd opinion.

maybe when i converted B&W, i might have gone wrong in color saturation and luminance...

Played outside this afternoon with my daughter. It was overcast and conditions were good for a few shots. I ran some photoshop actions courtesy of Pioneerwoman.com. All were shot with my 50mm - I really neglect to use that lens.

Thank you! I get the same thing if I look at the pic at work. Looks good to me, but when I am home, it's a different visual and the colors are not the same. They are even different when viewing it with a macbook compared to my regular laptop.

Can you please explain blown out? I don't know what the term means. Where am I going wrong. Thank you!

Hi! It was a very sunny day when I took this shot. I was looking to focus more in the center of the flower. Thanks for your feedback!

What should I look for when capturing bright and vibrant colors? What about the settings? What do you suggest?

Here is another example I took this passed week.
This is the bush of tiny flowers I thought would be best to practice with.

Here are a few shots taken to view the flowers closer:

Pic 3

This is my favorite! How on earth did I get a dark background??
Pic 4

I just took pics of what caught my eye. There are so many settings in the camera, I have been stuck on the macro setting for about a week.

This came from a neighboring bush:

Thanks again for your feedback!
