I needed both hands to hold the tripod up at full extension. I'm saying with my arms at full extension the camera was about 12' in the air.

Can someone help me clone out this dumpster. I'm using aperture and having a real hard time doing it.

Haven't posted anything in a while, but I see is300 & srika still posting some amazing pics.
A shot from the Auto Show a week back. I love shooting at the convention center, but I absolute hate doing it during the auto show. Rudest people to grace the earth; was surprised how polite fellow DSLR users were though. Anyway, nothing special, but I'm happy with it considering these are the toughest shots to get without people in them.

In search of excitement
Thanks walsh, I thought the cross would look good, but it didn't come out as I expected. Hoping to shoot a lot more this weekend.

all work and no play
an eye for things like that will only come with time and experience. The two which have the cross in it you have it kinda as the focal point and it is a bit distracting. I think if you backed up a little bit so there would be a bit more foreground before the cross it would work better.
Eventually you will be able to just look at a spot and visualize how you think it will work best. But, try not to get tunnel vision when working your shot. I cant tell you how many times Ive had an idea in my head, and have almost missed a better shot because I was so focused on one thing that I didnt look around for different perspectives.
Like what if you shot at an angle into the harbor with the cross in the frame instead of straight on?
