I wonder:
1. Why the torque # only went up 8ft/lb

2. Will they use this engine in another car? Gen coupe?

tuning? near 60 hp increase is big though. 429 out of a 5.0 is pretty dang good.

the ponies are definitely there. I'm just wondering if there is enough twist to allow you to KNOW they are there.

I don't get how 376 tq from 333 is an increase of 8.

yup. they mistakenly thought Tau has 368 lb-ft torque. 368 is the hp 'regular' rating before 10hp increase. they make a lot of mistakes lately.

Got this from the linked article above.

Slated for use in the Genesis sedan as well as the larger Equus, Hyundai's new V8 will use direct injection to produce 429 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. That's a healthy increase of 59 horsepower and 8 ft-lbs of torque over the 4.6-liter V8 it's replacing

Is this a twin turbo V6? Not familiar with it. What are the specs? When will that happen?

Any Idea when Hyundai will change the front end look of the car? It's the only real negative for it.

Looks like the 2012 Genesis Coupe might be getting the 5.0 liter V8 (429 horsepower) to replace the 3.8 liter V6. Also, the four-cylinder model will get the Sonata's twin-scroll 2.0 liter Turbo along with a power boost from 210 to 274 horsepower.

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...ore-power.html

Since the Genesis Coupe debuted back in 2008, the horsepower wars have raged on with cars like the Ford Mustang going from 210-hp to 305-hp. Once seen as a bargain, the G Coupe is a slightly less enticing package than it once was. To combat this, Hyundai will look to add more power to the Genesis two-door in 2012, along with a slight facelift, AutoGuide has been told.

Both the 4-cylinder and V6 engines are slated to get upgrades, although exactly how extensive they will be is not yet clear. It’s not hard to speculate that the 2.0T model could gain the Sonata Turbo’s new engine, prompting a significant increase in power from 210-hp to 274-hp. That would come very close to the 3.8-liter V6′s 306-hp number, suggesting it would also have to receive a major update, be it through naturally aspirated means, forced induction, or a switch to a V8. Past reports have already indicated the company’s new 5.0-liter V8 will replace the current 3.8L V6, producing a rather significant 429-hp.

The 274 hp twin-scroll 2.0T seems obvious, but I'd be surprised if they went with the V8. Supercharged or twin turbocharged V6 in the 350-375 hp range seems more realistic, but maybe they'll throw a curveball and go Korean muscle Krazy with their own 5.0

Man this car has come a long way!!! Not only is it fast it looks really nice....

I think in its price range it beat a lot of cars for best bang for the money. I told my self back in 1997 I would never be caught dead in a Hyundai... but with this car I might just eat my words..

The Gen Coupe is a compelling offering in the RWD Coupe world. Definitely worth a look.

Oh....bring on the V8.

I honestly think that 5.0 V8 with 430 horses could give an M3 a run for its money.

I don't think they'll price it too far beyond the current Mustang.

Hyundai better rethink the V8. Sure I love the power and performance as much as the next guy, but $4-5 / gal. gas just around the corner.....these things are gonna sit on the lots.

twin turbo or V8.. if you're gonna get hyundai high powered car, you'll get it regardless of gas being $3.50 or $4.50

say you need to pump every week.. 1 dollar difference in 15 gallons is 15 bucks a week
only $780 extra per year... sure that's gonna change my decision

I think the automotive industry....especially as far as U.S. sales go is in for a big shock.

The US dollar in free fall over the next year or so resulting in big rises in commodity prices is gonna hit the industry hard in many areas.

Hedge your bet and build your cars stateside, and make them very fuel efficient.

Small gas sipping vehicles built in the U.S. are going to sell in droves.

Why? Just because it has a V8 doesnt mean it has to get bad mileage. I had rented a C6 vette for a week a year ago and in the over 1200 miles i drove i saw as high as 32mpg HWY. Averaged about 24. My TL has a hard time doing that and the Vette was MUCH more entertaining to drive.

LIke a year ago when gas prices were high and pickups were still selling better than any thing up here? People will get gas shock and after a little bit get used to it and start buying larger vehicles again.
