that said, coming from you, I guess the 5.0 GC isn't really coming - you'd know better than any of us. Or you're just trying to cover your ass! But that would be one hell of a competitor to anything out there. The chassis would probably have to be reinforced and thus have extra weight to withstand the torque of a V8, but I'm sure it'd still be great.

So sad to say I'm not surprised that its just a rumor. It would be awesome though....

Didn't Hyundai say they couldn't "properly" package the 4.6?

I hope they do it and give it a revised interior as well (in truth it's a little low rent).

Is the sedan officially being updated for 2011?

Playing devil's advocate (along with Moog), the Hyundai versus Mini ploy does ring of a desire for relevancy on Hyundai's part. But as an enthusiast, I wouldnt mind seeing such a contest between the Cooper S and Gen Coupe V6. I personally like these types of contests. (I wouldnt mind seeing a 370Z vs Cayman in such a contest.)

A Mini and the 2.0T Track Genesis would be an interesting matchup I think.

A 370Z would get mauled around the track against a Cayman S I think. Especially given the brake problems that the 370Zs have when tracked heavily.

A regular Cayman might be more even but I still see the brakes as an issue.

Exactly...and no devils advocate here...just being realistic.

Hyundai screaming "me too" in a desire for relevancy...sure I can understand that....to a point.

...what baffles me is that MINI did it correctly by going after "the King" Porsche......Hyundai went for the "low fruit on the tree"...by going after MINI.......it just looks desperate.

Hyundai has a good car in the Genesis Coupe....they should have done a better job in this case.....instead of the "me too" ad to MINI.

Maybe Hyundai was hoping that Porsche would show up. That way they could compete against both

MINI flew an airplane with a banner over Porsche's USA HQ.......what makes you think Porsche would show up for Hyundai?

Nobody, including Hyundai, expects Porsche to show up.

It's just Hyundai's way of saying "We are here, too. Take notice of our new sports car." It's all marketing.

It also shows that Hyundai is bold enough to throw the challenge card out there against Mini and Porsche. Indeed, the Genesis Coupe has won numerous awards and taken the top place in magazine comparisons.

Hyundai has nothing to lose. Porsche has everything to lose. They are being exploited for their position in the market. It's lonely at the top.

I saw a Cayman S keep up with E92 M3s and BOSS 302 Mustangs last weekend. It smoked Camaro RS.Rs too. I guess I am skeptical of that test.

Yeah, but a good driver can make a lot of difference. The 370Z is pretty close to the Cayman S, if a bit slower. Its also WAY less money....

Btw, I think that a 5.0 Genesis would be a major coup for Hyundai. They would leap-frog cars higher up the food chain (like the G37/S5/335i/etc) as well as giving Ford and Chevy legitimate competition for the Mustang/Camaro.

Given Hyundai's aggressiveness over the past few years, I wouldn't count such a move out....

Hyundai releases Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec for 2011

Hyundai isn't content to just sit back and rest on its laurels. Despite the fact its Genesis Coupe, which was just introduced for the 2009 model year, has earned plenty of praise – including here on our own pages – the Korean automaker has upped the ante for 2011 with a host of new detail changes and one completely new model to spice things up.

The biggest single piece of news is the addition of an R-Spec package for the 3.8 V6-powered coupe. Previously only available on the smaller-engined 2.0T, the R-Spec model includes all the goodies to make the car go, turn and stop as quickly as possible without adding the frilly stuff to hold it back... or add dollars and unwanted weight.

To the standard 306-horsepower V6 mated up to a six-speed manual transmission, the R-Spec adds 19-inch wheels with a gunmetal finish, Brembo brake package with 13.4-inch ventilated front rotors, stiffer suspension, a limited slip differential and sportier seats with larger bolsters. Naturally, appropriate badging is also included.

All Genesis Coupe models get a refinished interior for 2011 with soft-touch, matte-finish surfaces and dark metal-grain accents on key bits and pieces, along with softer leather on the steering wheel and cloth-wrapping on the A-pillars. There's also new chrome trim on the shifter bezel, center stack knobs and gauge cluster rings.

There's plenty more for the truly obsessive to, um... obsess over, so feel free to check out all the details in the press release after the break.

While it's nice for new owners, these frequent updates must take their toll on resale values.

It's great how the car's only been around a couple of years, it's pretty successful, and yet they're still putting work into it.

Only problem with killing the plastic is that now the interior looks dark and dour. I suppose if you wanted color and flair you wouldn't have bought black anyway, though.

Sounds like R-Spec for Hyundai is like A-Spec for Acura...more form than function.

Well it is hard to distinguish between their Track and R-Spec trims, that's for sure.

But my understanding was that R-Spec was attempting to cut some weight where as the Track did not. I might be wrong.
