OKAY.

BACK to Honda, folks...this tangent has lasted long enough. If you want to debate the virtues of the entry-level luxury car interior...Start up a thread in Car Talk.

If Acura wants "Smart" Tech how about thinking outside of the box and not waiting for everyone else to pass you including the big 3 and come up with a modern trans. 6 speeds should have been across the board years ago, they should be rolling out DSG style trans by now or the next iteration of them. They are behind. Behind big. Any one thats making excuses for them is nothing more than a fan boy.

And ugly is ugly.

Who cares if it is $40K ugly versus $10K ugly?

8 speed may make a little bit of sense in very big displacement engines (after all Lexus did introduce it in the LS) it doesn't and it is frankly ridiculous on a smaller powerplant...Lexus still offer 6 speed automatic on their V6 engines..why do you think is that??....the little A4 4 cylinder blender engine with an 8 speed is plain ridiculous if not pathetic...weight and waste...another example of German sometime snonsensical "innovation"..some MB models have 2 reverse gear....plainly ridiculous...additional weight and cost for what??

Smart technology and innovation is the vectoring AWD system (with Audi precipitously copying the concept), the lane departure adaptive cruise control (Nissan), the variable timing (Honda), dual scroll turbochargers (IHI), cabin microfilter (Lexus), navigation system (Honda) etc....

Japanese tend to excel at "smart" innovation in the automotive world....most of us Japanese car admirers are attracted to their elegant solutions, hate for waste and unnecessary complication, the Zen-like approach to innovation, cost effective technology...we profoundly dislike the German pissing context "panzer" attitude....

I give you an example.....if the Japanese decided to make a Bugatti Veyron type of car they would have not have designed a horrendously complicated W16 engine with 4 turbochargers...they would probably have developed an automotive gas turbine (pioneered by Chrysler in the 50's and 60's) weighting a fraction, conceptually simpler and with with tremendous power.......

The Germans gave up on the Wankel engine because the shortcoming were considered "unworkable" (reliability and oil consumption) and basically sold the rights to Mazda for a song......and look what happened next....
hmmmm...some good and interesting good points here.

as far as the design goes, i'd pick acura's interior based on those 3 pictures..
but just because it looks nicer, doesn't mean it's better

as far as the quality of materials combined into the look, i'd pick either audi or acura..

All I can say is: I hope Honda makes a decent sporty car again soon. Certainly, the CR-Z has the look...but, let's get some power going.

Please.

In terms of interior looks, and in my own opinion.... (well, of the pic comparison several posts above)

Acura > Audi > BMW

BMW interiors nowadays are quintessentially German. Boring, but hey I bet a huge team of engineers designed that!

I do not know about the CL....

At the present times BMW give you standard fake leather in their 3 and Acura give you real perforated Milano leather in their TL...even the lowly TSX has real leather.....end of discussion.

P.S.

Some old BMW loyalist are pissed at the standard fake leather thing...is becoming a bit of an issue....

Pay the extra coin for the leather if one wants it.

If you don't want to pay extra for leather.....go buy another car.

If you want a BMW with leather....go buy it.

Pretty simple.

You may be right from a marketing standpoint...as an enthusiast I say, if you want a mechanical gearbox get the real thing and deal with a clutch pedal..otherwise get a slushbox...

They are behind. Behind big. Any one thats making excuses for them is nothing more than a fan boy.
They are so behind that the TL is regarded one of the most advanced sedan in its segment...

I agree...then do not talk about higher quality material...BMW is in cost cutting mode like anybody else....do not look for fantasy superior craftmanship...simple...

Okay...let's level that comment a bit. From a tech perspective, I suppose the TL has some nifty stuff in the interior.

The biggest complaint overall by most here is the lack of RWD drivetrain and V8 engine in the Acura and Honda fleet. Honestly, that has nothing to do with "advancement" IMO per se. But, it is the going trend in the market...and in that regard, Acura/Honda is very behind.

And with that, I do quite agree.

GT5 will come out when Acura gets on par with Hyundai in engines, transmissions and drivetrains.

IMO, the 3G TL was below the previous gen A4 for quality of materials but the latest gen A4 lowered their standards and the 4G TL raised theirs so both are about equal. Always felt my 3G TL was about the same as a 3 serie's in terms of materials and fit/finish.

I won't lie. If the MDX had a V8 and lost that retarded beak...there's a good chance I'd be in that instead of the FX.

Well you can't please everybody and I sincerely hope that they don't try to. You've outgrown the brand, and that's fine. Acura needs to work on insuring that the next generation of young buyers 'lust' for the brand like the previous ones did for the Integra. This aspect is sorely missing right now.

I like the beak on the MDX the refreshed MDX looks a lot better than the old one, IMO.

Sadly this doesn't apply on many of the other Acura models.

And that's the rub...And tough without a halo car too. In some aspects, when I was young, my thought were: "Yeah! I hope to one day get a car from the company that makes the Honda NSX!"

That's what a halo car can do! But, kinda hard to do that if none exist and most are family-oriented.

You were young then, and naive ...now you are older and wiser...thus you heart beats for Aston Martin and Pagani.

Don't be alarmed it's only natural. Go with it!

Yes if they wanted to go after the top luxury segment they are behind...but seems that they do not want to follow that road at the moment...in the space where they do currently compete they are not behind at all.....except for the RL which is behind in terms of engine options in its segment space.

I do not want to pass necessarily as an Acura apologist...in the current situation they should kill the RL..that car has no reason to exist at the moment (it still outsell more than 2:1 the Audi A8 )...and the TSX needs a more exciting exterior revamp, a SH-AWD trim and maybe a turbocharged engine pronto...the "FWD only" option hurt that car in its market space (but it still sells almost as much as the A4!!!).......I really do not understand what Honda/Acura is waiting for....
