Just because it's on the street here doesn't mean it's going to be sold here. I am sincerely hoping it is, but that photo is no guarantee.

Oh, im sure we will get that car. BUT it will come with a 1.6l churning out a butt-hole puckering 160 hp.

Redline appears to begin at 7000rpm, if you pause the video just right. Nice, but definitely not the 8200/8400rpm redline of days past. Stupid conservative honda!

I'm trying to as optimistic as possible here. Maybe it's a digital redline that you see in supercars that moves higher once the car warm ups

I highly doubt it. Why would you rev a cold engine to 7000? Why would Honda not have it warmed up all the way for a teaser vid?

The NSX 2.0 has a 7000rpm redline also.

but with the addition of a turbo we really don't need to worry about the redline but rather where the power is made

I agree, however, it's that old Type R engine scream that was half the reason the cars were so

Likely with a turbo, you'll no longer have to rev the shit out of the car to get power out of it.

I really hope this non-existant version the NJ dealership is getting has the same headlights as the concept. Next to Audi, they may be the best looking on the market.

Same day as the Focus RS announcement. Interesting.

Will Ford steal the limelight from Honda again?

Is this a question or a comment?

If Focus RS is an AWD 350hp monster, it will blow the doors off of the CTR.

What, you mean 1.6L, naturally aspirated, DOHC engines aren't popular anymore? :jaw drops:

Actually, now that I think about it, that's not necessarily true. It will all depend on pricing as well. Sure, if the civic puts out 290hp and FWD, it won't compete with the RS, but if it's 7k cheaper, where's the comparison? And if the CTR does put down those kinds of numbers, it'll be faster than the Focus ST. Being situated between the ST and RS isn't a bad thing. Not everyone can always be #1

CTR and the Focus RS aren't even in the same league. CTR will be a mid 20k car and the RS will be a mid 30k car. Comparing CTR and RS is like comparing a ST to RS.

The thing is, in most of the tests that I've seen, the current Civic Si is nearly as fast as the Focus ST. In some instances, the Civic Si is actually faster.

Civic Si:
Zero to 60 mph: 6.1 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 15.7 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 6.4 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 8.8 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 8.4 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.7 sec @ 97 mph
2012 Honda Civic Si Sedan Instrumented Test ? Review ? Car and Driver

Focus ST:
Zero to 60 mph: 6.1 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 16.3 sec
Zero to 120 mph: 26.8 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 6.9 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 8.7 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 6.7 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.7 sec @ 96 mph
2014 Ford Focus ST Long-Term Road Test Wrap-Up ? Review ? Car and Driver

(Note: Euro-spec Focus ST is faster: 2015 Volkswagen GTI vs. 2013 Ford Focus ST: Final Scoring, Performance Data, and Complete Specs)

The previous CTR (the FD2 at least) with 220hp was already miles faster than the Civic Si. And this new CTR is way more powerful than before. I don't think there's much doubt that the CTR would be faster a Focus ST.

It will be interesting to see what the RS is like though. If it's a 350hp AWD car, then there's not much competition hahaha...

Yeah, see, the ST sounds awesome on paper, but seems to really drop the ball in actual performance. Sadly, most people only ever consider what's on paper though. To throw a wrench into the mix, I wonder where the Si and ST were tested- elevation may hurt the ST more than the Si.

And to be honest, even if the RS is faster than the CTR, zero fucks would be given. I would whole heartedly jump on the CTR before I'd consider buying a Ford. Ford has done a lot of brand reimaging, but from what I hear from people I know who are mechanics at ford dealerships, they say not all that much has changed in terms of reliability. Plus, I can only imagine how friggin' awesome an I4, VTEC turbo would be

No man, the CTR WILL be a 30k car. Closer to 40k here in Canada. The current Civic Si is bordering on 30k here in Canada. I just looked- an Si with ZERO options/add one goes for 28.5k out the door here. I bet the CTR will be 8-10k more.

The Type R was ALWAYS an expensive car. That's why there was so few of them and why they hold their value so well, even now.

Damn it Ford!

To bad the GT was a prototype and the NSX was a production version, plus no electric motors.. Lame.

Not the same class. Might as well compare the CTR to a Ferrari.

Hopefully the RS gets Subaru to put a little more effort in the STi

I say reserve your judgement until both products are available to consumers. Even if the RS has 50hp more, that's not exactly a night-and-day difference. It has the potential to be faster, but not necessarily "blow the doors off" faster.

Again, comparing the ST to the Si, the ST has a good 65-70hp more than the Si, yet it's not exactly faster. Honda has always been known as having low numbers on paper, but in the real world they were a blast to drive and could keep up with competitors.

If the CTR competes with the ST then it will win. If it competes with the RS, it will lose. Chances are it will compete with the RS since the current Si is already $25k before any options (ST level).

I'm hoping it's a sign of things to come, but I can't be sure and remain skeptical.

Maybe the S1000 will become a thing. I could go for that.

You know, turbo cars actually suffer less performance loss with elevation.

With that said, the road tests by Car and Driver, MotorTrend, etc are all weather and elevation corrected for consistency.
