^ actually, it's barely a full sized car. It squeezes into that category by the slightest...which isn't saying much, as most of the midsizers out there are approaching that size category without really spilling over from the midsize category.

Um...don't know if it's been mentioned before, but aren't the MPG figures the new revised ones(real world?) that the EPA now uses?

As nice as the new coupe looks, if I was in the market for a $30 gizzle V6 6MT - I'd go for a Z.

the last Accord that was the same in both the Japanese and American markets was the 5th gen Accord I think 1994-1997 because Americans weren't complaining yet about the size of the Accord. Also, we weren't as fat yet

3519, same as Camry according to motortrend. Couldn't find Altima weight, I think it's lower.

and i thought the accord couldnt get any uglier. front of a hybrid of ridgeline and hyundai sonata and rear of a saturn

goodthing the car drives solid and interior is not too disappointing although its very bland and underwhelming, i'm sure the quality is there.

too bad the exterior is one of the ugliest car sold today

Question 6 Speed & VCM

From what I gather during this conversation is that the Accord gets similar MPG to its competitors despite only having a 5 speed transmission instead of 6. Maybe it is bc of the VCM?

I know the VCM has its naysayers but even if it adds just 1 MPG w/out a huge jump in price like a hybrid system, I say add it to everything. w/ everyone talking about gas prices & energy conservation, might as well since they have the technology.

Honda is doing well with this change and will continue to sell well....if one really does like this or that then you will need to go elsewhere as I may do after I compare/drive the Coupe to the new TSX and TL and the G-8 etc...

I'm gonna reserve my comments on gas mileage till I see some real world figures. Honda's have always typically delivered better real world fuel economy, and almost always produce fewer emissions, so it'll be interesting to see how it performs against its rivals in an upcoming magazine comparo.

And I don't think VCM is a failure - it results in a noticeable boost in economy in the Oddysey, and GM is follow suit with their "cylinder deativation technology". Chrysler already uses it in some of their motors. That doesn't spell failure to me.

Probably because it's flat in the front. I can see what he means. It's just not as big, obviously.

Couldn't agree with you more. They took BMW 5 series styling cues and put them on a 1990s Hyundai proportioned car.

Yes but those days are gone for now with the j-walking friendly design requirements being brought here compliments of Europe and Japan...

actually I think those days are gone because engines have gotten bigger while Honda sticks with FWD designs that necessitate these huger overhangs.

current RWD designs can meet j-walking-friendly without the extensive overhang.

But this is a family sedan, not a luxury sports sedan, so no one really cares except us freaks.

I am glad Honda decided not to use the Keyless Fob w/Push button start. All that happends is you lose the keyless fob. I would rather start it like any normal car and know where my key is(in the ignition). I am not a fan of push button start on any car.

The thing they should have done is had a D4 not just D5-D3 and it should have been manumatic.

What's with Honda America... they can't come up with better designs? I mean, the current Accords are ugly, but at least the design is original.

This new one looks like a clone of the 5 series with a Hyundaish front-end..

It's because the engine and transmission and whatever are all under the hood on the Honda whereas the BMW can put the engine further back because of being RWD?

I don't buy that. I think it is possible to engineer a FWD car with short overhangs. Remember the early 90s Acura Legend? It had a super short front overhang and was FWD.

That said, given how crappy Honda/Acura's cars turning radius is, if they extended the wheelbase, to push the wheels further out to the corners, it would turn like a full size SUV.

it is possible to design FWD cars with short front overhangs.

If i recall correctly, the legend (and last gen RL?) had longitudinally mounted engines, as opposed to the current accord/rl/tl platform which has transversely mounted engines.

I think Audi has switched to longitudinally mounted engines (taking most of its models off the same platform as the passat) in order to move the weight distribution away from the front, and also probably saving some front overhang.
