Even IF the new gen TL had the greatest styling I still wouldn't buy it due to poor build quality and using cheap ass parts.

And like JJaber06 said, cars generally grow bigger and heavier. I don't like that too, but for a bread and butter entry-luxury sedan like the TL, it has to do that.
Yikes, those are the numbers I pulled from yahoo auto's. Maybe they were inaccurate.

how so? not instigating anything persay, just trying to make a point that a fatter, more bloated TL is a sad parting from what this 3rd gen had become - a quick and sleek sporty sedan that I really admired and has class-leading design in my opinion.

Thank you! Some people just look for ANY excuse to pass off the results of that comparison. Truth of the matter is that NO other comparison is more accurate than the one done by Best Motoring at Willow Springs. Same day, same time, same track, same driver. The TL-S owned the IS350 fair and square.

TL Allocation News from TOV

I just saw this on TOV, looks like some specs are trickling out. The source is noted as a new one for TOV, so this information should be taken with a grain of salt until more is confirmed.

Hi Jeff.. yesterday we receive from American Honda the allocation for 2009 TL's ...here are some specs...

1. UA8269JW 5AT. Base model with 17" wheels / 3.5L 280HP
2. UA8659KW 5AT. Technology Package, Navi and Smart key (push button)
3. UA9629JW SH-AWD (like the Base model but with SH-AWD and 18" wheels) / 3.7L 310HP
4. UA9659KW SH-AWD and Technology Package / 18" wheels
5. UA9659KXW Just like previous model + 19" wheels and summer tires...

Hope this helps!...The pricing won't be squared away from US side until 2 weeks prior to the launch. (September 2008) ....

The IS350 isn't really that much of a sport tuned car, whereas the TL-S is. From what i've heard, its extremely soft and plush, as are most of the cars from Lexus. However, the tranny in the IS350 isn't the greatest and i've heard countless times that its geared for 60mph sprints and 1/4 mile. After 100-110, its pretty much useless. Same as the 5AT TL, except the IS350 has one extra gear. Goes to show that you can have a 10 speed tranny, but if it isn't geared right then whats the point?

As far as the new info goes, 310HP sounds decent....I'm sure they're saving more untapped power for the Type-S model. Still, with SHAWD sucking up some power, it probably won't be much faster than the 3G TL-S. I'd really like to see the interior...

Big freakin deal dude. People bring that test up every time, including Manual Transmission who has defended the TL-S many times.... yet happened to buy an IS350. I think that speaks VOLUMES. Very nice car, btw

And i'll still put money down that the TL with the 5AT will still get better MPG than the G with the 7.

The guy bashed anything that wasn't a manual transmission to hell then goes on and buys an IS350. I wouldn't take any of his actions very seriously...even when he did have a TL.

Well, he is part of the Hyundai brigade.... which includes msl82. Whats even funnier is that he didn't buy a Hyundai even though they're the greatest cars in the world.

No manny tranny ?? (maybe for an upcoming type S/A spec model ??)

I'd want a SH-AWD with a 6spd manual and 17 inch rims

Eh isn't Acura kind of killing MT anyways I mean c'mon look at the TSX MT gets 28mpg highway. So I guess Acura thinks that most people don't want MT which I guess is true why would I want a MT in a TL its not a sports car its just a nice luxury car that is comfortable to drive.

it's funny, but sad and true at the same time. Acura is like the C student who just wants to get by. they need to get to the A student and B students who are Lexus and Infiniti.

I have always thought their cars are very good, just that they don't have the higher end products to compete with higher end products from other makers.

Ok... Ok.. fag boys (j/k), Oh I mean, boys,

I may seem like that but me buying an IS350 was extremely and most seriously the logical choice. Here is why:

- Acura cars have crap build quality. I got disgusted when I realized it's fully built in U.S.A. The gaps are un-even. The doors aren't lined up correctly. The dash is mounted wrong. Whenever I open the driver's side door I can see how crappy the dashboard is mounted.

- Acura and Honda cars have famous 3rd gear problems in their manual tranny. This almost got me an accident the other day. Almost got me killed twice. Be thankful I didn't sue Acura. If I knew this was going to happen I wouldn't have accepted the car even if it was offered to for free, seriously. Maybe I take the car and sell it immediately so I can make some money off of it.

- There is really annoying noise coming from the engine. It makes really annoying repetitive squeaking noise once the engine is warmed up. The service technician said the noise is coming from near the pulley and the timing belt. The Acura service manager told me this is also a known problem but they still don't have the fix for it.

- The build quality is sh#t. Also the material used on this car is cheap. I just don't see why a consumer should pay nearly 40k for this cheap built car.

As for Hyundai,

- The Hyundai makes best cars, especially the late model ones in terms of both reliability and performance. The Hyundai Genesis will dominate the market.... I proudly support Hyundai. The only reason why I did not go with the Hyundai is because the Sedan version is just too big for me. The styling is not my cup of tea, just a personal preference. I wanted the Genesis Coupe but IT AIN'T OUT YET. If you are lucky you might see them in the dealers middle of next year. I need the car now, and Lexus has it all. The build quality is top notch (aside from Hyundai, hehe... ). The car is filled with premium parts. It feels so damn freakin good when you get in the car. The leather feels just absolutely marvelous. The suspension is still tight and well balanced. It's hardly worse than the Acura TL 6MT. The sport-tuned suspension and 18" wheels on the IS350 is definitely helping. The AUTO tranny on this car isn't really a problem. The 6 speed close gear ratios(unlike that lame ass 3rd gen TL long ass gear 5AT tranny) tuned by Lexus is very nicely done. It is very sell designed for 0 to quarter mile performance. Even at 120 mph the TL Type-S 6MT can't touch IS350. The Type-S will fall way back, two three bus lengths. The Type-S 6MT might catch up by the time I hit 14x mph. There is not much of differencea. Where in the hell you have room to go in triple digit speeds anyway. I would eat that Type-S 6MT for lunch in the accelerations. I am absolutely loving this car.

Lexus will survive.
Hyundai will catch up.
It's just a matter of time Hyundai will eat Acura. I have been extremely disappointed with Acura's quality and reliability. If it wasn't for that I would love to own Acura TL and buy me a new model from Acura as well. Sad and disappointing.

I think despite all the bitching we do here, Acura knows what they're doing. They don't want to alienate the majority of their buyers by offering RWD, nor does it make financial sense for them to offer a 6MT to the small minority who would want it.

saw this on TOV:

We've just been informed (from another source) that the TL will be the first vehicle to get SH-AWD with a 6-speed manual transmission, but the 6MT version won't be available until the 2010 model year. The rest of the information seems pretty solid for the moment.

Seriously, I wouldn't buy Acura anymore. If they offer to me for free then I might take it and sell it. Free cash man, free cash.... and I go drive my Lexus.

And I am pretty damn sure the '09 Acura TL will be fully built in U.S.A as well. I smell cheap build quality. The best built and most reliable cars come from Japan and Korea(Genesis built in worlds largest plant in Ulsan, South Korea). I don't trust anything else considering how the reliability has been going with the American and Euro cars....

LOL.

They've better fix the 3rd gear synchro first before ever releasing SH-AWD with 6MT because what good is it if you can't put it into 3rd gear.. I don't want to get killed because I can't put it in gear and get an accident. Since Acura/Honda is unwilling to fix this problem (or they actually have no clue how to fix it, lolz ) it maybe better to just have them stick with the AUTOMATIC tranny. And what's the deal with the 5 speed. Are ya kiddin' me???

We are a small minority in terms of Acura's clientele and although we, as car enthusiasts, would love to see Acura move in more of a sports direction, their entry-lux style of cars have sold very well. They're not about to change their formula, because the majority of people out there really don't care.

Probably to be released with the Type-S version of the car Would be nice if they offered it from the start, however I doubt it will effect a majority of their buyers...

Preferring Acura over other brands isn't a requirement of this forum. If it was, less than half of us would still be here.

I can't believe a 31 year old that still says LOLz called me a fag boy, thanks for that.

You're acting like you traded the TL in for a Bently. Get real bro, you went from one mass production car to another. A japanese one at that, you act like you're driving around in a Mercedes or a BMW, in which case I might understand your cockyness, even though it still wouldn't be justifiable...

Before you traded the TL in, you bashed anything that wasn't a manual transmission. Almost every thread had you praising Hyundai or a manual transmission, and you ended up trading your 6MT TL for an automatic Lexus. Don't get me wrong, the IS350 is a great car, its just funny how easily persuaded you are Why not a manual Hyundai? I mean, they are the best company in the world...If you have so much passion towards them, makes ya wonder why you're not driving around in one right now.

BTW, I think its time for a SN change..

Yea, I guess we will find out in a few months or so. And yea, for sure, it won't have much effect with sales.

I don't even know where to begin. Since you bring up that comparison between an IS350, G35S and TL-S in Willow Springs so much, how the hell did the TL-S win it then? I guess the TL-S' handling was so great that it made up that difference of 2-3 buslengths in the corners.

And I'll leave out the insults to your car, as it really is great and I've driven an ES350 myself many times and will agree with you on Lexus build quality. However I'll keep my comments about Lexus steering feel (or should I say, lack thereof) to myself.

I've taken apart a 2G TL's interior and its very nice but not as nice as the 3G's. Even the 2G interior was very well built, it was a huge PITA to take everything apart. I'm probably misunderstanding you but I don't get how the dashboard is mounted all wrong. Apparently you know more about how a car is put together than Acura itself and the people working at the assembly line who happen to do it for a living. So please, enlighten us.

I don't see why you didn't sue Acura, seeing as how you think you have such a strong case. You have so much to gain but yet you didn't sue?

Manual Transmission was suspended from AcuraZine just a couple weeks ago due to his bad behaviour in the "Racing & Competition" forum. I guess he still hasn't learnt.

No doubt this car will sell well. But isn't it time to moved past the J series and and develop a new tranny.

All I read is how direct injection and 6 and 7 speed transmissions increase fuel economy by xx%. Is it all lies?
