They fixed the rear of the horrible previous gen. So points for Acura there.
...Keep in mind the above is regarding this concept. Honda/Acura have a VERY bad habit of having the bean counters step in and watering down and adding tons of vanilla to the concept for the production model.

I find the production 3G TL to be much nicer looking than the prototype, so there's hope.

I already asked this.
The pricepoint, interior, and final look will be factors for sure. But, for ME, even if it retains the concept look which isn't bad, I would not choose it over a 3-Series or A4.
Although, in fairness to Honda, I think the 3-Series and A4 are not the TLX's direct competitors anymore.
I think it is Lincoln or Buick these days.

I owned 3 generations of TL's. You can guess which generation I did not own.
There may be a 4th TL in my future.

Whats up with RDX owners?

2 - There's a reason I left the 4G off the list
They said release is summer of this year. Summer months are generally June, July, August, and part of September.... so that's like 7-8 months away. I'm thinking they'll release in August.
Summer starts June 21 and ends September 21.... at least it does in the northern hemisphere.

The RLX really needs RWD to differentiate itself from the TLX. Oh, and styling that was penned by someone that had a pulse.

Oh yah so Game over for RLX. I expect to see no more than 300 units sold per month after TLX is released.
I don't even think Acura should release the AWD RLX now. it is just a waste of time and $ for everyone.

I spend 2 much time here
current 1G owner here bought it brand new at the end of 2003 when it came out and up to 160K miles on it. there literally hasn't been a single Acura that has come out since i bought this car that has really sold me. not saying i'm 100% there with the TLX yet but they have my attention. i tried to convince myself that i liked the TL but i just could never fall in love with it enough to buy one.

The FWD model is pointless now.

Damn that 3/4 rear view is good, even without exhaust tips.
I'm going to be in Detroit this Saturday for the auto show. Will be sure to bring back pix.
Still pinching myself that Acura did not screw up the exterior styling. There is hope for Acura after all!

The Sport Hybrid, though, should be released. It's where the rest of the Acura line will be the next model run. Not to mention, 30 combined mpg for a big car is kinda a big deal, and the drivetrain is a backwards NSX drivetrain. The automotive media will pay attention to the hybrid RLX even if consumers won't.
BTW, I have owned 2 gens of TL and I'd be happy to own a third TL. The only thing that would be better than what I've heard today is a manual transmission in the V6 model....but we all know Honda/Acura doesn't have the balls to do it.

Why offer the 3.5L, 300+hp engine with a FWD drivetrain? This makes zero sense to me. AWD should be standard with the 3.5L option. I am impressed that they have finally offered a DCT, although, why not offer it for both engines?
Overall, I think it looks great. Beak and all. It should be interesting to see the final numbers and technical data.

Agree on the FWD RLX. It's done.

Thus, no point releasing it.
Now the success of the TLX really depends on the MSRP now.

The sizzle in the Steak
It works on all the models over the years, and BMW has evolved the design as the years have gone on. Additionally, the double kidney grille design does not limit the overall design of the car or the front end.
In contrast the Acura beak / 5 point grille is very dated, and limits the over all design of the car. The front end is always pointed in the middle. The creases and pointed angle of the front end some how has to merge with the curves of the sides and rear, and this is where it becomes a dis-jointed over-all design.
Acura has tried to take the pointed/angle design thru-out the car and even brought it to the rear (see previous gen TL).......and failed miserably.
Sometimes you got to know when to make a corporate design change to the front end.
Lexus has done this, to great success. So did Audi a few years back.
Acura doubled-down on the dated 5 point grille design with the beak.
Now, they continue the dated, limiting design with the muted beak.

Design, performance, presence sells cars more than an extra 1-1/2" of leg room in the rear.
Japanese reliability in 2014 is a myth.

Part of these 'problem metrics' is that a rattle counts as much as an engine exploding. I'd like to see some solid information that defines just how expensive repairs are off-warranty on average per model.

Man...as a 1G TSX owner...I dig it. A lot. I'm just curious, as others are, of interior details and MSRP. I think the 2.4 is a bit on the lean side, but maybe that's the engine they use to target people who may have bought a TSX? Who knows.
I hated the 4G TL and this is the first Acura in a while I am honestly excited for, however I feel they have replicated the same mistake they did with the 2G RL...nothing about the RLX stands out to me now that I've seen this, minus hybrid AWD. But I think this is a kick in the balls for base RLXs.

All this beak talk... Toyota just released the king of beaks with the FT-1 and it looks great. Personally I think the new IS looks beak-ish from a side view. I'm not disagreeing with you; I think Acura should move on from the the beak. However, you can't deny the TLX does look good, even from the front.

As the owner of a 4G 6MT, I noted no mention of a stick, just dual clutch (which is semiautomatic, in my book) and a 9 speed auto. Also, smaller V-6. So the 4g 6MT keeps its niche as the largest Honda V-6, and one of the few affordable cars with a stick that isn't an econobox or an overpriced Beemer. Think I'll keep my 4G a while.

Coinciding with the reveal of the 2015 Acura TLX Prototype at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show this morning, Acura has confirmed that a version of the car designed for motorsport will compete in the GT category of the growing and highly competitive Pirelli World Challenge. The North American-based series features a variety of familiar vehicles racing on a wide range of circuits, from tight street tracks like Long Beach and St. Petersburg to wide and fast circuits such as Austin’s Circuit of the Americas.
The Acura TLX GT race car will be campaigned by Acura Motorsports together with partner RealTime Racing. GT is the premier category of the Pirelli World Challenge and is frequented by race cars based on the likes of the Audi R8, ChevroletCorvette, Dodge Viper, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Nissan GTR, Porsche 911 and Ferrari 458.
The TLX GT will certainly have its work cut out for it when it starts racing later this year, but Acura has had a helping hand in developing the race car by the experts at Honda Performance Development. In fact, the TLX GT will feature a chassis, engine and aerodynamic performance parts all developed by HPD.
Its power unit will be a twin-turbocharged and direct-injected V-6, similar to the unit expected to debut in Acura’s upcoming NSX, and drive will be channeled to all four wheels via the automaker’s Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive system.
Acura’s partner RealTime Racing is also one of the most successful teams in the Pirelli World Challenge, and it’s been successful using both Honda and Acura products.
As for the TLX, the production version of the car will go on sale this summer, as a 2015 model. It will feature front-wheel drive as standard but will be available with all-wheel drive. Two naturally-aspirated engines will be offered on the car, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 3.5-liter V-6.

If I were you, I would run out of the 4G TL as soon as Acura releases the 5G TL with 6MT.

Doesn't mention if a M/T will be an option. Maybe they'll wait for later models, 2016-2017. Always save the best for last, but who knows. The M/T may be dead, if so time to start looking elsewhere for my replacement. Shame, the current TL SH-AWD 6Spd M/T is in a class all it's own.

So the GT race car has slightly different headlights and mirrors. I wonder if those are the actual production version of each considering the headlights actually have some amber in them.

I have to hand it to Acura on this one, it's a good looking car, and it seems to be more TSX at it's core than TL (styling, proportions, engine choices, etc). Granted, we don't have actual performance numbers or a view of the interior (or price for that matter), but they did good. If I hadn't bought my TSX so recently I would strongly consider this for my next car.
I fully expected to be disappointed at the unveil today, but Acura did good.

Acura should just buy back all the 4Gs and burn them like that generation didn't exist.
