Acura: Sales, Marketing, and Financial News

I think it's going to be more than developing a RWD platform. Acura is trailing behind Lexus in customer service/dealership experience, as well. They might be looking to improve that aspect of Acura.

The TL has a unique body, unique motor, unique interior, and unique suspension tuning, which makes it a different car.
By your logic, the VW Golf, Skoda Octavia, and Audi A3 are all the same car because they share a platform.
Seriously, go troll somewhere else. Your stupidity is ever more evident the more you post.

There's a difference between platform sharing and rebadging a car and selling it as something else.
What you said is equivalent to saying all Audi's are VW's, all Lexus's are Toyota's, and all Infiniti's are Nissans, which is nothing wrong to say imo... but they ARE different cars
I'm pretty sure CGTSX2004 KNOWS that a TL is based off the US Accord platform, the MDX shares Pilot platform, but they are not just a rebadged car like the RSX... like you were originally talking about (and the TSX is somewhere between the two, a rebadged Euro/JDM Accord with a different interior and a few other touches.)
EDIT: looks like CGTSX2004 beat me to it...

Gilbo, you drive a 325xi automatic. why do you criticize so much? and please, no rebuttle claiming either; 1.) my age, 2.) my current choice of automobile, and/or 3.) my current gross income,
because that'd just be as gay as your car

the TL has nothing to do with an Accord.
The TSX however DOES have a lot to do with the accord. see for yourself:
http://www.honda.co.jp/ACCORD/
And the TL doesn't even exist in Japan where Acura's are currently labeled as Honda (like the integra, accord, and inspire)
And the 2006 Accord of the US, is the same car (with some slightly different features) as the 2006 Inspire in Japan and you'll see they share the same exact body style.
I believe you are thinking about the old inspire which did look like the older TL, but that's old news, get with the times.

Acura to begin racing with Le Mans entry
http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/04/...le-mans-entry/
Acura will enter the 2007 American Le Mans Series, initially competing in the LMP2 class, company officials announced today. This will mark Acuras first factory motorsports program in the 20-year history of the company. An Acura-powered endurance racing prototype will make its competition debut at the 55th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March of 2007, racing against manufacturer-supported efforts from Audi, Porsche and Mazda, and a variety of well-equipped privateer teams.

Acura Eyes Sales Record
Acura Eyes Sales Record - - by Joseph Szczesny - - Source: The Car Connection
Acura is gunning for another sales record this year as it continues to expand with new products, new marketing, and a focus on cutting-edge technology.
John Mendel, vice president of operations for Honda in the U.S. , noted that Acura has now set sales records for the past three years and expects sales to top 200,000 units again this year.
"We're on our way to another record," he said.
Honda also is preparing to launch the Acura brand outside the U.S. for the first time. It will introduce the brand in China this fall and then launch it in Japan in 2008 as part of an effort to establish Acura as a global brand, he said.
Survey data collected from American consumers shows that Acura's image is steadily improving to the point where it is considered as one of BMW's closest competitors in the sporty-youthful segment of the market, Mendel said. Consideration of Acura among luxury buyers also is going up steadily, he added. Acura has the lowest average age, 43, among all the key brands competing for attention in the luxury segment. With an average of 44, BMW and Audi are next, Honda officials said.
The new RDX crossover vehicle Acura will roll out this summer fits perfectly with the direction in which Acura is moving, he added. The RDX is aimed specifically at hip, young urban buyers who don't really need an off-road vehicle but want an efficient, versatile, and stylish vehicle with features such as real-time traffic and technology such as all-wheel drive, he added.
The sales projection for the RDX are about 13,000 units this year and 40,000 for the full calendar year in what has become one of the most rapidly growing segments of the new vehicle market. Many of the buyers of the RDX are expected to come right out of the small-car segment, noted William Walton, a senior planner in Acura product planning.
Despite its unibody construction, Honda plans to market the RDX as a sport-utility vehicle, Walton said. Pricing has not been released yet but will be between $32,000 and $38,000, which is well below the targeted competitor, the BMW X3, he added.
Mendel said that the specific RDX advertising campaign is slated to start in early August. It was specifically designed to look beyond traditional media in an effort to break through the clutter that makes it difficult to launch a new vehicle. "Our target audience is looking for new ways to utilize the media," Mendel said.
Thus, the campaign will feature downloadable viral ads, such as image tagging that allows user to download images on their cell phone and e-mail the images into special contest Acura is sponsoring. Once the images are forwarded via cell phone, Acura also will send back a mini-brochure. Acura also will take sponsorship of podcasting on NPR for a time this summer, Mendel said.
The RDX also will show up on the Jumbotron in Times Square, in e-mail blasts to targeted audience, and on various Web microsites Acura plans to create for the launch, as well as ESPN's programming and on shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live that attract a young male audience.
Mendel, however, also acknowledged that the RDX is likely to attract Baby Boomers who are interested in downsizing but also in maintaining a youthful edge.

It sure can't be after, considering they are still selling it and this study was surely not performed in the future days w/o the RSX...unless they gave up on ASIMO to concentrate on developing time travel.

Well. I guess so. Its true. You'd be surprised at how many really young people 16-20 with rich parents (ages 40-50) consider TLs over 3 series, because it has that IN factor. And then people in my age bracket (24-30) go for them because they're super bang for your buck, and that's pretty much whats important. So you know, when you get down to it, we are competition. We may not have the right drivetrain or the right engines, but usually, overall, its hard to go wrong with the almighty Ac

Sure we see people young driving rsx, tsx and sometime a TL. But waht we dont' see often is old people (50+)driving an Acura. Cause the only "old" people's car acura has is the RL, which doesn't sell very well.

Fawkin Gilbo.
BTW - Gilbo, that rebaged Accord (Although 99.9% of the popluation couldn't tell its a rebadged Accord) sells 7K units a month and handily outsells its RWD competition from Lexus (IS) and Infiniti (G35).

I am certain that Acura's lineup will expand extensively and agressively in the next 4 years. I am sure there will be another coupe coming soon. The signal for this expansion is the axing of the RSX and the fact that the brand is getting global (or close to that). You need a lot more product if you are to compete globally.

I see mostly girls with the 4cyl and guys with the V6 6MT. The V6 5AT is devided pretty evenly.

Then you miss out on perforated seats and the slightly better sound system, and of course the amazing transmission.

But, I just found this quote funny:

The TSX matches up well with a 325 sedan, and the TL with the 330 sedan, but Acura needs to expand it's lineup if they want to compete with BMW across the board... (Acura RWD coupe please)...
I just find it disappointing that the sportiest vehicles in ACURA'S lineup right now is the HONDA S2000 and HONDA ACCORD EX V6 6MT !!
I just don't get how Mendel can say that Acura is "BMW's closest competitors in the sporty-youthful segment of the market"....
Maybe he meant in "the sporty-youthful SEDAN market"

I wonder if Nissan will surpass Ford in the 'Green Image' category once the Altima Hyrid hits the scene. That said, I definitely would not have considered Nissan in the top 5 of that category. That said, I guess image is subjective.
