Stock Bose Head Unit.

Well I bought my 98 CL 3.0 couple months back. I am looking to get harder hitting bass then what my stock Bose speakers can give me. I hear that if I replace the stock head unit I need to rewire all the speakers. Which sucks. I bought a 10" JBL sub but I am hesitating getting it installed to the stock head unit. I just don't feel comfortable with the stock equalizer.

Does anyone have any experience with such things?

Yeah I am wondering also. Can you install an after market sub with the bose amp? or will it not give me enough power to get some serious boom boom in my trunk?

Holy crap! Who is this guy? How's your blown Caddy workin these days?

dcleas - You don't need to rewire anything or replace anything in your BOSE system to add an aftermarket deck. You just need the right harness and adapter. But an inexperienced installer would tell you otherwise.

srtorelli - Technically you can add an aftermarket sub to the factory BOSE amp. But... you shouldn't. It would be like adding a boat and trailer to the back of a CIVIC. You can do it..... but good luck trying to move that trailer.

Word?

Uncald4- I have been to 3 different shops in my area whom all told me it needed rewireing. All 3 do custom audio/video installs. I am now considering buying the needed parts and doing the install myself. I already took apart my center console once to install a Peripheral iPod Interface Kit. So, I know enough I think. Any advice as to where to find this "right harness and adapter?"

Thanks Again Man.

You'll need a Metra 70-1720 harness to plug into the car. Then you'll need a PAC OEM-2 BOSE interface adapter to wire inline with your new harness. It has adjustable outputs so that you can closely match the signal that you factory deck was piping to your OEM BOSE amp. With those two pieces you will not need to rewire anything. Most installers learn early that all BOSE systems need to be completely rewired to add or modify anything.

Shoot me an email and I can send you pictures of what things look like and you shoujld be able to do this easily yourself.

Hmm... guess I am just going to have to save up for that double din deck then and properly do everything.

Sorry, I think we got off topic a little bit. It is very easy to install an aftermarket amp and subwoofer to your factory BOSE system. Instead of grabbing signal for your new amp at the deck you can grab signal from the BOSE amp in the trunk which is much easier. Then at a later time when you decide to swap out your deck for a new one all you'll need to do is run a set of RCA's from your new deck to the subwoofer amp.

Please let me know if you have questions.

I sent you an Email. It appears Crutchfield offers exactly what you said. Thanks. Any recommendation as far as iPod interfaces to head units go?

Let me know.

Really.. this I did not know. In order to get a signal from the stock bose amp would I need to buy a converter or anything? Also would I still have to run power from the battery to the new amp or can I get power from the stock bose amp? Last thing is there any DIY's on this? I looked around the forums and didn't find anything but many of you know of other sites.

Thanks

There probably is a DIY on this topic somewhere. You don't need to use any type of converter as long as your amp has a high level input. If it does you can just pipe the audio signal from your BOSE amp's rear speaker outputs into your sub amp. You will need to run power from your battery.
