6.5" Sub in TSX Rear Deck

I've been kicking around a speaker upgrade in my 2008 TSX. I've seen a lot of the posts on successes with Alpine and Infinity upgrades. I actually really liked the idea of the avincar kit, but Ken has all but evaporated and any emails I've sent to his site email addresses receive no response.

Anyway, has anyone used 6.5" subs in the rear deck instead of 6x9s? I was looking at the Kicker CompVT 6.5" sub. It's pretty shallow and should fit, perhaps with a 6x9 to 6.5" adapter plate.

Thoughts? Feedback? I'm wondering if the stock amp would have enough to drive it. I'm not really interested in replacing the amp at this point - just the speakers all around. I like the smoothness of the Alpines over the Infinity setup.

Thanks!

- Mike

I do not know about that particular Kicker speaker, but as a rule of thumb, most aftermarket speakers tend to be less efficient than OEM speakers. When replacing speakers and not amplification, most people see a gain in quality but a loss of volume. Ken often spoke of this with the Avincars and it is the case for most aftermarket speakers. I would guess that the kickers would definitely sound better, but at a loss of volume if driven by the stock amp.

There really is 0 point to upgrading the 6x9's signal to anything unfortunately. The stock amp is too weak to make it worthwhile, and if you amp it, the signal is terrible and you should just use a full signal properly crossed over to power that area.
