Replacing the Stock Subwoofer

I'm new to this forum and i'm just looking for some help. I drive a 2004 Tl completely stock. Recently i was foolish and blew out the factory sub woofer. I had the bass and sub woofer turned up to +6 so it really is no surprise especially since it is a stock system from 2004. Anyways, I've been doing some research but is it possible to use an aftermarket sub in the stock housing above the rear seats in the TL. If not, do i have to get a housing in the trunk of my car in order to do the replacement?

Again, really new at this so bare with me but I am trying to do a complete audio upgrade from head unit to tweeters, door speakers, etc i just need some advice and help getting there so any feedback is great

You can install aftermarket parts. Check in the TL garage here https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...ewbies-553554/

there isnt any, and if there were it would just compound the problems inherent with the location. replace with stock or do something worthwhile.

I've seen on a few threads that many have replaced their woofer with a JL 8w3v2. I don't think you can find these anymore though, I've only found some v3 which don't fit without having to do some metal cutting.

I think mine is blown, so I'm looking to get another. Since the space is limited, I was thinking of getting a shallow sub but will any shallow 8" sub fit?

Basically nobody does that so you will have to do your own research on mounting specs. If you can get rid of the rattles back there and reinforce the structure a bit and perhaps seal up the area around the sub a bit it may be worth it... hard to say though. Easy solution is to put a box in the trunk. You don't need a big sub and subs mounted in the corner of the car/trunk sound good in our vehicles. I have mine facing towards the front directly behind me (driver seat).

Thanks for the input. I'd rather not put a box in the trunk to keep as much space as possible. I had one in my previous car and a few times I would have wanted not to have one. I might end up with one, but like I said, I would rather not if possible.

Look in to infinite baffle then. Probably about the same amount of work as putting something decent in the stock sub location and will yield better results due to being able to fit up to 2 15" Subs and require relatively little power.

That's something I looked at quickly too since I saw some threads about them. I'll have to look more into it.

Any model in particular? I'm not looking for the top of the line one, just something to improve the original system.

Search the numerous threads on the subject for some ideas... My guess is any subwoofer will sound pretty decent, even the cheap ones.

you need to look in to IB sub-woofer, that could do good in free air application. Sub needs to be specific to its component,

Make sure everything is sealed off from the trunk to the cabin. If not, you wont get the same response of bass that you might be looking for, or had with stock subwoofer.... I have pulled mine out all the the way
