JDM,

No video noise that I see. It's pretty clear. I am planning on installing some headrest monitors and maybe some visor ones, but that is about 6 months out.

I did FM modulation but again I didn't like it so they used some relays and spliced into the XM and I have a switch to flip for audio through the xm signal.

The install looks great. What shop did you use in the Clearwater/Tampa area? My local shop in Sarasota wants to splice into the XM then run through the avelectronics unit. With this install you lose 1/2 the volume with XM so I'm reluctant to do it this way.

thanks!

Definitely like to check-out your setup in person. I'm a little north of you in NPR. Am seriously interested in doing the navi to dvd conversion but want to make sure it's done the right way. I definitely won't want an FM modulator for sound, either.. Is it true that if you splice into XM signal w/ a switch that you'll lose volume for the XM signal?

vidoprof sent a PM saying he also lost 1/2 volume when the installers spliced in to XM with relays and a toggle switch. This really sucks because I was under the impression after reading countless posts that you only lose half volume if you go splice into the XM and then go directly through the avelectronics unit.

Does anyone know if you can add a small amp to the xm out to head unit? If this can be done can you still use the existing amp in the car?

Thanks

Anytime you wanna check out the install just send me a pm. I can meet up with ya.

Yes I lost about 1/2 volume, however the XM doesn't lose the volume only the DVD that is playing. Does that make sense?

I also have a small system in my car so I don't worry about the sound I just turn it up when I play a DVD.

So I don't lose ANY volume when I am listening to music on XM, I only lose the volume when I hit the switch and watch a movie. The movie volume is at 1/2 volume.

Thanks Ryan
That clears things up. I'm dropping my TL off this morning at Super Sound in Bradenton.
They are installing the Avelectronics Nav converter, 2 - 7" LCDs using brackets behind the headrests, Infinity Basslink, DVD player and X-box/PS2. I can switch out the game consoles at any time.
It looks like I will have the guys try the splice XM with toggle switch approach and bypass the avelectronics unit all together for sound.

The guys said they will take lots of pics so I will post them tonight if I get time. The estimate was 4-6 hours of labor @ $50 an hour + wires/rca's. I was told it will not exceed $400.

Thanks again for the info. After my stuff is installed I would love to check out your ride.

Rob,

Definitely keep us posted on the install. You're braver than I trusting a shop to tear apart your TL, haha.

How does the avelectronics unit handle sound if you don't bypass it? FM Modulation?

After you get yours done maybe all 3 of us can meet up so I can check out both setups and decide if I wanna go forward with mine or not. Kinda use you guys as lab rats, haha.

The guys just dropped me off. I feel like I'm dropping my son off at a strangers house to babysit.
When you purchase the avelectronics unit they give you a wiring diagram to go through the XM receiver and then through the avelectronics switcher. They also sell the wireless FM mod with the unit if you want but as we all know the sound quality sucks.
My install guys are going to merge output 4 of the avelectronics unit with the xm out to the head unit with relays and a switch. They plan on mounting the switch in the open slot near the mirror controls for a factory look.

I'll report back as soon as I know more.

We can definitely meet up sometime if you want. I think I read back sometime ago that you are developer so I think we may have few things in common. I work for a software shop in Sarasota. Let me know!

Sure things guys. sounds good to me..

Just so you guys know.. I am a (out of work now) Network Admin, so we all might have a few things in common (not including our TL's)

Any know of ANY jobs out there for anything?

Let me know how you like that basslink I have heard mixed reviews.

I would also like to see the headrest monitors too. So whenever you get a few mins I would love to meet up... as I said I am unemployed now so I can meet you whenever.

One day next weeks sounds good. I'm also an IT Program manager; I have a team of 3 developers, 3 testers and 1 analyst. We develop corporate tax software.

Ryan
I'm not sure if we have any openings in our network group but I will definitely check on Monday for you when i return to work. I'm on vacation the remainder of the week. If you would like to check the openings before then, do a search on dice.com for Vertex.

Ok thanks.. I would appreciate that. Hell I will do just about anything at this point. Not much I don't think I could not pick up if a company was willing to train me.

Thanks for the lookout.

Let us know how the install goes.

I really wanna see the headrest monitors

I was so exited when i picked it up I forgot to ask for the install pictures.

Overall I am extremely happy with the install. The Avelectronics unit is working great and I have full stereo sound with no loss what so ever on xm, dvd or PS2. The install shop called me and said they had to install something (I'll find out what it is tomorrow) to amplify the sound of the DVD and PS2 because it was so low. It cost me an extra $100 but I think it’s worth it.
Also, the DVD player I have would not fit in the glove box so I had them install it under the passenger seat. The PS2 is under the driver’s seat.

I'll start my own thread with pics + more details tomorrow.
]Thanks again everyone!

Cannot WAIT to see these pics and see your ride next week. If this shop did that good of a job I'd seriously consider letting them to the work to my TL as well.

Sorry guys. I do plan on starting a new thread with details and pics but I got caught up yesterday assembling a play ground set for my son's 2yr birthday. My keyboard hands are not use to 10+hours of manual labor so I'm moving a little slow today.

Unfortunately I will not have pics of the installation till Monday. The owner of Super Sound in Bradenton went to Vegas this weekend so I have to wait till Monday.

In the mean time, I am charging my digital camera now and will post pics of the finished product soon.
Please be patient, we are having a big birthday party tomorrow so my wife is harping at me to clean the porch and go to Sams. I’m sure some of you understand!
