are you saying this as if I haven't been doing anything at all? Because I'm pretty sure I have "felt free to find one" already...

but its not fair that person A spends $5 on cups and plates, while more dedicated people like Huy pays for $80 worth of korean bbq.
what do you mean by "dedicated" people? I've been here since July 2001, and have been to hundreds of meets. Is that what you mean by dedicated?
I helped find the location last year, as well as calling them up a bunch of times, making a paypal account to get donations for the park fee, then using my credit card to pay for the park fee, as well as keeping the "who is bring what, food list" updated. So I'm pretty sure I'm "dedicated." Unless I'm not "dedicated" because I brought my own sandwhich and gatorade?

As far as "Huy pays for $80 worth of korean bbq," that was his choice.
Last year we made it quite clear that people were free to bring whatever they wanted, and if they wanted to bring extra stuff for others, that was their choice. I hope to god I never hear one person complain about how much they spent on food last year when it was THEIR OWN CHOICE to share with others. (thanks again to those people)
I brought my own food and my own drinks (for a specific reason). Nobody should complain about how they didn't get food, or how much they spent.

This was how the group chose it to be, and I helped maintain the list of what people were going to bring to "share" with others.

Last year arrangement work great. We dont need to charge any additional fee for any sort of activities. Bring food that you like to share. There's plenty of food to go around. Not to turn this into a Norcal vs SoCal thing, but if I remember correctly, more Norcal people came and brought food. Almost everyone had fun.

Beside the Nipomo, whoever is calling can check into Biddle too. The information is on pg 10. Thanks.

I liked last years, even with it being my first all cali meet.. But I would like to meet up with more Norcal people. I got to meet ~ 5, and all of you guys were really great people. Hopefully we can have more interaction between the socal and norcal people.

rescuer: it wasn't "talking crap" no worries, thought it was better for everyone to contribute an equal amount. no one ever complained either. no big deal.

seems like there are a lot of members who want the "potluck" so we'll just go with that. no big deal. like i said, whatever the majority wants...

i personally thought nipomo was a good idea, but whatever you guys like. its OUR meet, not mine. if it was mine, i'd be the only one there

so right now the only thing set is the date July 18th Saturday which is tentative if we can get a reservation at whatever park we want.

what needs to be done is set the place then worry about the rest like lippstuh said earlier. Work on the venue then worry about the other stuff.

Called Pismo Parks and Recs Dept.

They have a website www.pismobeach.org...

The parks are pretty much booked up in July. Vicki, the parks person, recommended Dinosaur Cave Park

http://www.pismobeach.org/index.asp?NID=288

it is available for reservation on Sat. June 27th.

Check it out and let me know what you think, we need to act quickly to make sure we have something reserved.

GREAT PARK

PROS:
JUST STEPS FROM THE BEACH
FAIRLY NEW FACILITIES
LOTS OF GRASS

CONS:
FARMERS MARKET 10-2 SATURDAYS
ART IN THE PARK ON SUNDAYS
NO BBQ PITS : WE WOULD NEED TO BRING OUR OWN

as long as we bring our own BBQ pits or cattered FOOD its a go.
PLUS we would need to bringour own VOLLYBALL NETS and/or sports EQUIPMENT.

i looked at that one as well, thought the parking wouldn't be enough, but i just counted seems to have about 50 spots if we can have them all. BUT it seems like we can park on the side in the dirt. awesome.

I really wanted one right next to a beach and this one is it. is there a bbq grill? if so book it.

i THINK that there's a $250 deposit, $120 insurance fee, and $20 reservation fee.

Good views, better parking then last years spot, lack of BBQ pit easily solved, bring chairs and blankets....

I reviewed all park options at www.pismobeach.org, which others would you suggest or do we bail on Pismo all together? If so, I will contact SLO Parks and Rec tomorrow to see what options they have...

the parking is like the same... there is a 25~ car parking lot, then the rest have to park along the side of the park curbside (either on the dirt or the street)

last year people parked curbside around the park. so i don't see how this one is "better," except for the 25~ that get in the parking lot.

check the map at the street called Cliff Drive
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...9&z=19&iwloc=A

the lack of seating and no BBQ pit is a major turnoff. AND the fact that there is no shade whatsoever, which is the biggest turnoff considering it's going to be very sunny and hot.

shade is a must.

I pass that park countless time when I was in school. I believe it's close to Avila Beach. It's a great place for small groups (~25), but will not work for us. It's a great area, recently new, nice view, some place you take your gf, but not a good spot to have a meet.

There's also:

http://www.sbparks.org/Scripts/Parks....asp?ParkID=25

Waller Park looks like a biggest park in Santa Maria; I'm not fond of Santa Maria, but whatever. There's also Adam Park/Minami Park. Here's a link to all the park in Santa Maria and surround area:

http://www.centralcoastkids.com/parks/santa-maria.cfm

The website is gear toward kids, but it is very useful.

been there plenty of times. plus, i've done hundreds of car club meets, including tons of BBQ's, and know that shade is a huge must in the middle of summer.

most people got a huge sunburn last year including myself, until i finally moved under the trees.

shade is very important

I agree. The use of uv protection help; someone should add that to the "list" when it get started.

finding a perfect park in the middle is so hard, i can find one easily near OC.

which is why all options are open. I still like nipomo, but its up to the majority. but i really like the group effort, lets get this done before march, if not we'll have to settle for one.

i still don't know why nipomo isn't a good option. i discussed this with huy and a few other people at our local meet. we really need to find one, again we have to make sacrifices since there isn't a perfect park so lets not be so picky.

how's nipomo?

I went to Pismo last year, The roads to get there sucked, traffic was horrible , Pismo Beach roads were narrow and tore up. The shopping center we gathered at was not large enough and run down.where we parked at the park we had to guide people thru with motor home then the guy with the diesel truck and of course there was the Biker Bar close to park. The park we had the BBQ at was second rate. We stayed over night The Hotel was costly, Pismo PD swarming all over. Cmon we Drive Acura's most of us TL's. Make the gathering spot worthy of us, not a spot for owners of KIA's.
