Motor Trend just posted the Concept Type-S again on Instagram with no new information. Aside from being a huge annoyance to those of us obsessively following any bit of information, I have to think this is paid content by Acura to drum up interest to the masses for the unveiling in the near future. Happy Friday!

It's sales and marketing strategy. In late Summer 2019, Acura created this massive buzz. Everyone was excited for the new Type S. But some delays on their side, then COVID-19 and NY auto show got cancelled. Problem after problem.
Now Acura is going to market for a couple of weeks the concept car, then boom! We get the virtual reveal.

Summer is Coming
Personally I don't think acura was ready to release the car. This hinted of incomplete testing, possibly bad software, just look at the TLX and RDX releases. I suspect Acura wasn't complaining too much when the auto shows were cancelled. Gave them something else to blame for their inability to release a new car on time that works without major compromises.

Dear ACURA,
Starting today, you are instructed to add one carbon fiber part for each week that goes by with no reveal.
Any questions?
Week 1: side splitter, driver's side
Week 2: side splitter, passenger side
Week 3: shark fin
Week 4: the roof. The entire fucking roof.
Week 5: rear view mirror, interior
Week 6: ________

Apparently the new TLX will go on sale in August. In the Facebook 2nd Gen TLX group, some guy mentioned this and apparently he works for Acura as well. Also an active user there in that group said that the announcement will be made within the next 3 weeks.

Are they waiting for the pandemic to end or what? That's going to be on everyone's minds til at least the end of the year, so if that's their strategy, they may as well wait until August to announce it, or whenever life goes back to normal...

We'll probably get some sort of excuse like "real drivers prefer analog gauges because they're clearer on the track".

Isn't all their manufacturing shut down? I would think they would need to start building by June? And until the pandemic is over how many could they possibly sell? Personally I think the economy is toast for 6 months and will not be back to per-pandemic until late 2021 or 2022.

maybe analog in boner, but when you look at Kia, Volkswagen and so on digital cluster is becoming the norm and I agree, if it is not on most of the new modules they will just confirm how far behind they are.
#1307
The Accord has an analog speedo, but the tach "gauge" is a multi-function screen that can display lots of information, so I would expect at least that for the new TLX.

Which base car (A4, 3Series and C300) offer fully digital gauges? I will never blame acura if they don’t offer digital to the base model. Car manufacturers need to make money. They can’t give you all for free.
Do you guys want Acura to take the path of Nissan and Infiniti? Sell cars at major discounts and then what? Infiniti is at the merge of shutting down, Europe and Australia are already shutdown. Nissan is bleeding. What’s the future of the company?

I find Acura did very well in terms of features and pricing for the RDX. I hope they do the same thing for TLX with the following changes:
1. offer A Spec with Adavnce like they did for TLX in Canada from the beginning.
2. Have digital gauges for tech and plus
3. 360 degree camera should be available at least for other trims if not standard
4. Of course the Type S should be the package with all the bells and whistles with a reasonable price.

Car companies have been increasing base prices for years, not sure why Acura just can't suck it up and go all in. If a Chevy Bolt has one, pretty sure Acura can do the same. And it's a screen with software, much easier to assemble. But we all know Acura is not the best with software, just look at the ZF9 programming and NAV display from 2005.
if Acura or any car manufacturer offers everything at the base, they won’t sell higher trims. So they have no choice but to create different trims and make money. Porsche is one of the most profitable car manufacturing in the world. The price difference from their base to fully loaded is 25-30%. So, it doesn’t make sense for Acura or BMW or Lexus to give you all with the base.
May be in 4-5 years, it becomes a standard feature. But I can tell you today it’s not the right time for any company. Again, no car company wants to be nissan and Infiniti.

Until there is a vaccine, any large scale reopening of the economy and public gatherings will most certainly lead to a second wave in the fall and winter, quite possibly worse than the first. Thats what the experts are saying. Intelligent corporate leaders will act accordingly.

Agreed. Depending on how this plays out it may take a few years to fully recover. Many states won't be totally opened (and I use "totally" loosely) until the summer and if there's a resurgence in the Fall as they are predicting it will be another setback for the economy and any recovery.
I do see the silver lining... If it does happen to have a resurgence, we know the drill... We know what do do now... By we, I mean everybody on Earth. We can get through this and ride the waves. It's important to get back to normal, but keep your gaurd up and we need to monitor and blow the whistle at the first sign of large scale reinfection instad of calling it "the regular flu" for months before realizing what ut is.
We have learned a ton and have done a great job worldwide with this thing. We just need to be vigilant in doing so, but I see no reason why it should be worse if we can cut down on community cross contamination through precautionary messures and common sense.

Live Cockpit Plus features multi-input iDrive 6.0 system is operated by voice, touchscreen, and iDrive touchpad Controller. The modern design of the digital instrument cluster optimizes driver info. Navigation, Bluetooth, two USB ports, Over-the-Air (OTA) updates for map data up to 4 times annually.
FWIW it looks like the old original (optional) glass cockpit I had in the 440 not the new design I have in the Z4. The Z4 type unit (live cockpit pro) looks to be standard in the M340.
KIA
Digital dashes are cheaper to make, maintain & replace than analog gauges. They can also charge more for them.

I guess it’s time to push digital gauges. I do agree that it’s cheaper to build and maintain for sure. But definitely it will be less reliable than the analog ones.

My Nsx, rdx, and civic type r have digital gauges along with some analog bits, which IMO, is probably more expensive to make than just a digital screen. Though this is also the route Porsche is going with in their 992 911. It features a big analog tachometer right in the middle, while the the testimonial four gauges, two on either side of the tachometer, are now replaced with two digital screens instead.
I probably wouldn't call Porsche for being behind by still having an analog gauge. I actually think that's pretty cool and sporty to have it still.

let’s be honest that car was just refreshed this year and at that price, it should have had the digital gauges. But oh well, it doesn’t. Does it make a difference in their sales? I guess not.

People are screaming about Acura not getting the infotainment right, yet want them to now digitalize their gauge cluster, lol. I'm sure it'll be packed full of thoughtful trinkets like how they keep "MINIMAL" on the CID in big, white letters while just about every other automaker blanks it out. ![Why Me](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/whyme.gif)
The more I drive my 3G RDX, the more I don't like Acura. Aside from quality issues, the car seems high sprung and simply not as enjoyable to drive. It's like a nervous, shaking chihuahua that nips at anyone that comes close. It seems to take way more effort to drive smoothly than other cars. After driving it, I've come to much prefer my brother's X5, which I originally didn't like all that much. The center gear "shifter", mode selector and infotainment pad are also a massive waste of space. I've come to hate the center console ... space management, ergonomics and overall practicality were basically completely forgotten about in the name of aesthetics. Hopefully this isn't the case with the TLX Type-S ... doubtful I'll know ... I'll probably look German or Korean for my next car.
