Interesting information, which I do think is relevant. The part that I think is not relevant is the photo spread on a 2 seater sports car- if people are interested in that it would be better to go to a BMW forum.
I'd surmise that a shocking amount of long-time acurazine members are current/past bmw owners. Nearly every thread on an upcoming TL/TLX for the last 3 releases and probably 20% of the recent threads in car talk would make you think this was a BMW forum.
When there's no news, threads will devolve into new bimmer car talk.

Enthusiasts tend to lean more towards performance, and BMW certainly has that in spades, so it's no surprise past Acura owners would eventually step up to a BMW (or in some cases, step down from a BMW).

Believe Audi based on post here is doing better than BMW over the past year with TL/TLX owners taking the next step. When I sold my 2006 TL BMW owned the next car up jump. Regardless it seems like a logical progression, as the RLX never became a factor in the next price range.
You can forget the Type S this year, my Acura dealer just laid off everyone and has shutdown. Vehicle market is finished this year.
Blame that on Acura taking too long to release anything new, let alone doing mandatory updates to products. The virus was bad timing for this dealer.
It may affect some in Canada too since Quebec/Ontario forced mandatory closure of non-essential businesses (3 weeks).

Ouch sorry to hear that but not unexpected, as these are very tough times, especially in our part of the U.S. Once this passes I hope that they reopen and everyone gets their job back. And I assume their parts/service are still open or is the whole place shut down?
There's of course two ways that this can go and only time will tell: 1) the auto industry restarts very slowly and we see a delay in products 2) they come roaring back and move new products through quicker in an effort to make up for lost sales. I would not count anyone out just yet, as great rates + killer incentives + pent up consumer demand is something definitely worth watching.
I could see the NSX waffles being used to evoke comparisons between the two, but the earlier mules that were testing against the C43 / S4 had wheels that were more similar to the Type-S concept's -
So I wonder which will be offered (assuming AHM cheaps out as usual and only offers one), or will they learn from the established brands and give us options?

I went with the nsx waffles because that is the most recent wheel we have seen on a test mule. And it does make sense they would do that because they probably anticipated selling more NSXs than they have so why not just run that wheel on the TLX as well since the design has already been created.
This is the first time I’ve heard of the new NSX referred to as waffles...they look nothing like waffles to me; in fact, it looks pretty standard for a high performance car...I’ve seen this referred elsewhere as y-spoke wheels.
Still a little green here & there but its going to be this way for a few weeks. So here goes for better or worse.
All the vents & slots are functional. Radiator, oil cooler, secondary water cooler for the turdo's intercooler. brake cooling ducts, air curtain air effects system.
Fender vents are for the engine compartment hot air removal. Pressure to push the hot air out is generated by air coming in the front of the car.
Vents for rear wheel wells & full undertray. Physically the car & front seat setup are a shade wider than the 440 was. With no back seat car is about the same length as the 135is next to it.
Not much to see its all hidden under the plastic. 183 Cu In inline 6 DOHC TurboCharged advertised at 382 BHP @ 5500-6500 & 368 Ft Lbs @ 1850-4500
DynoJets are showing about 373.5 HP and 425.7 lb-ft lb-ft of torque, all at the wheels. Figure 10% drive train loss & its 410BHP against 382BHP advertised at the crank. Hard to say what the exact numbers are but the sub 4 second 0-60MPH & 116MPH quarter mile with a curb weight of 3457lbs suggest the dynos are closer than BMW to the actual number.
Personal settings for panel HUD has tachstrip
WAZE through CarPlay. 10" wide panel can be configured as a single full display like it is now or multi windows. Will most likely stay with single windows easier to see. The HUD will not take Carplay Input so will use both WAZE & BMW maps at night.
Leith BMW! I know where that is, hello fellow Raleigh resident! lol. Great car, I hope you enjoy it.
It might be a little too late for this now but a way to save money in NC is to transfer your license plate. Mine expired in December and I bought a new car in February. I paid the property tax for an entire year at the old cars rate but now have the tag on the newer more expensive car which I don't have to pay on until December. You can even renew it early and transfer it too. So if it's due on the old car in April, renew it now and then transfer to the new car and you good to April of 2021. Also, if you don't transfer make sure you get a receipt for an older car so you can refund the property tax for the time you didn't use. A nice little tax tip a figured out a few years ago if you didn't already know.
Holy slow news day. Motor Trend's Instagram account just posted the Type S concept with details in the link in their bio. Recycled the same story from August with no new information.

I think there will be 2 wheel design options, something like the early mule in Germany and the y spoke on the latest mule in Torrance. AHM isn’t the one that cheaps out, its the top brass, shareholders, etc etc in Japan that gives/approves resources for AHM. The scary part for me is after the TLX, all Acura sedans will be developed in Japan and all crossovers developed by AHM.
NAIAS is cancelled for this year. We’ll see what Acura does with the unveiling; at this point if it’s ready they might as well just unveil it since there’s no other major auto show left, and if it isn’t, well, we all suspected as much anyway.
There's still the NY show, which was postponed til Aug. But being the current epicenter of the pandemic, it'll likely take even longer for things to recover there.
Be simpler to do a internet streaming show introduction like GM did for the Corvette. Some car magazine, TV adds & website treasers to generate interest just before the show. Think this car is a pretty big deal for Acura as to the future of sedans as part of the product line so the launch ratchets up in importance compared to a normal new generation launch.
"We had to add two quarts of oil over the first 10,000 miles, one at 4500 miles and another just before the service visit. While adding oil to any modern engine might be cause for concern, our dealer assures us it's within normal tolerances. For now, we'll take their word for it, but it's something we'll be watching closely"

Or like the new G80. Acura is just... slacking... like show some excitement for your own product at-least.

Considering the Javits Center has been turned into a field hospital, I wouldn’t hold my breath on this. I’m expecting a ban on large group gatherings until at least the end of the year, if not longer.

I definitely agree there is a great deal of importance on the TLX launch. They can certainly take some tips from Genesis since they're streaming the G80 tonight at 11:00 PM ET.

Agreed 100%. As a regular/annual attendee, I totally do not expect there to be a show this year. Personally, I fully expect life in general to be on hold for nearly a year since COVID19 went international. (i.e.: No 2020 MLB, MLS, NFL,etc,.... seasons)
Regarding this topic, don't expect much traction (progress, news, developments) on this front for the foreseeable future. Even when COVID19 is somewhat 'contained', the world economy will be in a much different place than it was when this discussion kicked off. If we're lucky, we'll 'just' be in a recession for a bit before we get into the groove of our new normal. But I consider development of the new TLX and MDX to be hold for quite some time; and more than ever I can see the company re-assessing how they'll implement the two.....which could disappoint quite a few here. (Hopefully I'm proven very wrong. )
Why would you launch the new TLX or indeed any new redesign when the 99% of people who don't participate in car forums are somewhat concerned with real life these days.
True, but most are also at home and online more than ever. Hence the reveals that were planned for Geneva were still done virtually, as opposed to not showing anything at all. Wouldn't be surprised if there are minor delays (assuming the development team's been working from home or more cautiously outdoors), but can't imagine them just sitting around. The new TLX is also too far along to be cancelled, but I bet there'll be some implications for the next ILX/RLX if those were even in the pipeline to begin with.

As of a few days ago there wasn't going to be a delay on the new TLXwas scheduled to come in base form this summer. They'll do an online reveal but they need to hurry up. The IRS release and other information is already written since it was going to debut at the NY auto show next week anyway. Just release the damn thing already. They're not even producing the 2020s anymore.
They should just roll it into a commercial and let us see it like that. Back in 2003 i was watching one of the playoff games and the new TL ad came on and i remember how fastly my jaw dropped to the floor. It was silver. I wouldn't mind that again. But maybe this time, have all of the color choices hard parked available for us to see.
Honestly, Acura kind missed the boat. At this point, no matter how they do it. No one is going to buy new cars for $50-$60K. The world and economy are in bad shape. People are losing their jobs and I highly doubt people will be buying luxury goods anytime soon!
In 2008, Acura tried to come up with 4thG TL and started the R&D for NSX, the GFC hit and everything went downhill. Now, again the same sh1t is happening!
Acura isn't alone in this, every car company will be impacted. Imagine everything goes back to normal by June or July. Car manufacturers lost one quarter of sales. That's huge...i am sure by end of Q2 and beginning Q3, you can buy some solid cars with huge discounts.

Agreed! I think we'll see automakers offering big discounts throughout the year honestly. They'll make it up when things pick up but the timing of this could be great for people wanting a car. Some cars come be delayed I'm sure but this is too close to stop the tlx.
With the G80 having also been on the market since 2015 (initially as a Hyundai), Acura can't afford to delay any longer if they're aiming for the 2021 model year. This new G80 also comes blazing with 3 engine options from the start, so there really are no excuses for not offering or at least announcing the Type S at launch.
Also remember this is coming from a company based in South Korea, which was hit hard from the pandemic only weeks ago. And they obviously weren't asleep at the wheel throughout all that...
After the troubled 2015 launch I'm looking at the other side of the coin. This delay (we can all assume there will be a delay given the current health crisis) may enable them to do more testing and really button things up so when they finally can roll out the car they won't have the negative PR generated from issues that should have been dealt with. Either way we're in unknown territory right now on a number of different levels - let's hope we can get back to talking about cars sometime soon.

100%! Well said!
At this point, it doesn't seem cars are priorities for many Americans or Canadians. I just checked the sales numbers, Mazda and Hyundai had a huge decline. This will apply to all car brands. As I have mentioned earlier, if things go back to normal by end of this summer. You can get any car at a huge discount. if your lease renewal is due sometime in fall, you can get a good deal for sure. Unless things get worst.

2 engines, not 3, for North American Market and higher performance version is rumored to be added later. It's how most manufacturers do it anyways, so I don't see why Acura wouldn't do the same.
G80 was actually supposed to come out last year before GV80's lanuch. It got delayed couple times so it's not like they were strictly following the original schedule.
I'm also wondering how many dealerships will be left after this pandemic. Quite a few seemed to be struggling and margins are generally thin as it is, this could be the straw for any number of them.
At this point Acura will have to knock my socks off with the next TLX and my sights are set elsewhere, it's going to take a lot to get me to focus back on them.
If they actually know what the final production version is going to look like and they have the specs, they dont themselves any favors by holding onto that information. If they're going to come out with it in Q3 or Q4 anyway, they should just come out with the info so that everyone looking to buy a car in Spring and Summer knows whether there's something worth waiting for or not. It's not a new vette or the next gen M3, no one is going to be sitting around with bated breath waiting for a fancy press conference. Just make a nice 4 minute video and a spec sheet and let's get on with it! Audi featured the e-tron sportback in the superbowl and it isn't coming out until Q3. Tesla takes preorders over a year in advance... Planners can't plan without data.
