I see a lot of comments about how horrible the 09 grill is. I think Acura is working hard to position itself more along with Lexus, Inifiniti, BMW, and Mercedes. If you look at the new Acura lineup, they look more identifiable than the current models. This makes them more of a "status" car as opposed to just deluxe Hondas. Beemers and Benzes have unique grills and I think Acura is trying to do the same. I actually like them.

I love my 3G TL and find any excuse to drive it.

 

I got bored... and I don't always have time to sketch/draw... saw the new pics and thought .... 'definetely needs change'.

So... I skipped sketching/drawing and used MS Paint.
Here's my contribution.... lol

Tried applying thinner grille-lines[more similar to the 3g] and removed the top portion where it rests against the hood... Then I applied my Eye-lids [that I will be making for the 3g in the same style] to give it the aggressive look. I tried drawing in hood-air-vents.. but paint just makes it look very flat [like the editting]... Anyone up to photo-shop in some CF hoods... maybe styles usually seen on the EVO or the RX7..

I have been lurking here for the last few weeks trying to decide between the 3G and the 4G.

These latest 4G pictures have pushed me into 3G big time!!!

After seeing the official Acura 4G picture, I thought to myself, other than the funny grill and overdone wheel arch, I'm willing to overlook those imperfections for the sake of 4G's SHAWD.

Call me superficial, but after seeing these latest spy pictures, I am going to get myself a 2008 WDP Type S!

The sides seem fine. But I just can't stand the fat rear and the oversized grill!!! I think this latest rendition of the grill is worse than the MDX's and TSX's grills. Also the creased on the hood is not very flattering either!

The TL in these spy shots look so much worse than the official photo!

What a letdown from Acura after their beautiful 3G.

Acura should fire the people responsible for the terrible RL and now TL designs.

 

ehhh.. i think im feelin this more than the tsx..... just my 2cents haha..

although the 2G and the 3G look more sexier...

 

The grille is hideous.

 

Well these unveiled shots pretty much ice it for me, my 08 Type-S will be my last TL for some time, this pretty much assures my next car will be a G37 Sedan or maybe (not likely) a 09 Maxima. The Grill takes away from what might be a decent looking car. Also the back pointy truck jsut does not go, as was pointed out almost looks like a Civic coupe backend on steroids. And of course that damn hump in the dash takes away form what should be a sleek flowing interior.

 

From a distance it probably looks better than up-close.. and that's something I cannot say for the 3G, which looks awesome both up-close and from a distance.

It's unfortunate, really.. but in-person does change the equation a bit, as always.

 

...............the issue I'm looking at is body wise.....what the hell is that small piece right above the headlight? I am not willing to pay $400 to get a tiny piece like that if something was to ever happen to that tiny piece....IDK....yeah that grill is just....BAM! LETS KICK IT UP A NOTCH! I wonder if they were watching Emiril Live when they were designing the car....

 

Yuck! Not liking it at all.

 

I'll reserve judgment for now until I see it with my own eyes. As others have said, the wide angle (almost fish eye) extent of these photos would make almost any car look relatively bloated. My 3 year lease on my 3G '06 is up in February--and I had high hopes for the 4G as my next car; although, I'm not thrilled thus far.

 

about the best thing I can say for it, is the the front and hood have has a very 2nd gen and 4 gen prelude feel.

Reminds me of my 86 Prelude Si. but everthing else looks like a tia juana donkey slut with missing teeth and a peg leg!

 

I cant believe that they even screwed up the rear door. Am I the only one that finds it odd that the chrome trim exceeds the door line such that they need to create a "false" window - almost looks like a glass to glass seam.

I am a true Acura/Honda fan. Our family currently has three 3rd Gen TLs, a Civic, a Ridgeline and an Accord. But this is starting to look like a spoof. There is just soo much to not like about the new design - and I really, really wanted to like it, but when you get to "other than the back, the front, the side (door issue), it is ok" then it really isn't OK. It is a shame, because the TL was/is the best luxury value car on the market.

I keep hoping that Acura has these out here to "fool" us all and the Real 4th Gen TL will be awesome - just my two cents.

OMG.... So glad I didn't wait for the 4th gen, before getting my STi...

They ruined a BEAUTIFUL car...

 

I had not noticed that before - it is truly odd. I guess Acura got tired of being called bland but me thinks they went too far in the other direction ...

 

I've seen pics of the 3G TL--which I currently own and absolutely love the look of--that make it look like its nose was hanging about 15 feet past the front of the front tire. While the 3G TL does have a relatively long front overhang, it still looks amazing in person.

I'm not saying that I'm in love with the 4G TL and I'm not saying that I hate it. All I'm saying is that I cannot say definitely yes or no until I see it in person and I think you would be fair to yourselves to do the same if you will be in the market for a new car in the coming months.

I said the same thing about the new TSX and the current Lexus GS when it came out. I even said it about the Audi A5/S5 when I first saw pics of it. Then I went to my local Audi dealer and had a hard to preventing myself from the car while I was there, it was that beautiful in person (don't know if I should be ashamed to admit that).

 

Actually, now that I think about it, I remember not even liking the 3G TL when it came out and I had my '03 TL-S. Then I kept seeing it everyday. How it looked while rolling down the highway. Pulling away slowly from a stoplight. With A-Spec kit, wheels, and slight drop from the suspension. Only then did I fall in love with it.

 

Its gonna take some time to get use to it....Im sad that they didnt keep the aggresive look. The flat hood....the transition between light, bumper, grill and hood is messed up reall bad.

And they also got rid of the deep side line that were giving a smaller look and a longer shape to the car. Not good in my opinion.

I guess we were right, ACURA is going for HI STANDARDS to become a luxury class. Thats why they dropped the RSX.

I guess I'll stay with my 04 TL and choose Bmmer or Mercedes next!!!

Damn it! The Acura Press photo looks enticing and then the real world photos look awful!

I am in the same boat in trying to decide on a new car this fall. Looks like a 2009 G37x or A4 Quattro is in my future replacing my 05' TL. Shame they did not keep an evolutionary look on the 4G rather than this revolutionary disaster..

 

I can only reserve final judgement until I see it in person but from those pics, I say epic fail on Acura's part...

 

Normally I'd get what you're saying, but the design elements of this car are just TOO LOUD AND IN YOUR FACE to imagine ever getting used to them, at least for me.

Sure the 3G was different when it came out, and for some it may have taken getting used to. But everything about the car's design blends together nicely. No one element stands out too much. It's all part of a complete look.

The 4G on the other hand looks like Acura is begging for brand attention. They had to put big angles everywhere, and that giant grill is just too much. It kind of reminds me of the Mazda RX-8, where they put that "rotary motif" (the rounded triangle shape) on the front, back, steering wheel, headrests, etc. Way overdone.

The TSX and the new RL are the same thing. People hoped they'd look better in person, but they don't.

The only new Acura that I actually like is the MDX. Somehow that one just works better.

I think things will improve in the "4.5 G TL" when it comes out in 2011. They will smooth the rough edges and it will turn out better.

No way in hell am I buying the new TL.

If this is what the Acura studio is gonna put out.......then close it down.

As much as it hurts me to say this, as an Acura fan, a three-time owner, and someone who has influenced countless Acura purchases, it has to be said: I'm keeping my 2G RL and if the next gen RL is not any good, my next car will not be an Acura.

 

Time to move up on Acura's to the SUV's. They are the only one's that still have some good designs. My next Acura will be the MDX. The new TL is now out of consideration.

Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, Benz, Audi, Jag, Caddy, Lincoln,....are gonna get a lot of previous Acura owners.

I like the first PR pic better....the grill looks comically out of proportion with the rest of the front end. I dunno....hopefully it's camo of some sort?

 

I wouldn't mind getting those wheels if they were 18s.. even the ones on those last couple of pics

 

Not even good from far but it is far from good. Man this car is so ugly only Ray Charles would buy it. I am SO glad I quit selling Acuras. Seriously... this car looks nasty. What a shame, too. The best technology and performance in the world can't compensate for a face not even a mother could love. Whomever designs a replacement grille kit for this car is gonna make tons of money. Shame on Acura for foisting this beast upon the public.

 

If you compare the promo pic to those that was taken on pg 30, you'll see that in the promo pic the grill sits flat across the top, where as in the "real life" picture the grill curves upwards on both sides, could there be 2 different types or is the promo pic photoshopped..
