Sounds reasonable assuming the TL now competes with the GS350, Infiniti M, 5 series, E-class, and Audi A6, which I think is Acura's intention. As long as the features are there, I don't see a problem. I'm not concerned about brand panache, so that's a non-factor for me.

Starting MSRP's (all wheel drive versions):

'08 Lexus GS350 AWD - $46,500

'08 Infiniti M35x - $45,650

'08 BMW 528xi - $46,800

'09 Mercedes E350 4MATIC - $51,900

'08 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro - $46,100

'09 Acura TL SH-AWD (fully loaded) - Approx. $42,000

You are right....I was able to retrieve videos that I watched today from my cache folder. Unfortunately the cache folder doesn't have anything from yesterday....thats when I had watched the video May be someone else has it in his cache.

First off, I think 42k loaded w/ SH-AWD is a very attractive price. Acura TL has been targeted towards entry-level luxo sedans, not the ones you mentioned. If you did get a chance the watch the video, TL's chief engineer states the same. RL falls in the class of sedans you listed. G35x is the closest competitor IMO, and top-of-the-line model is 43+. So TL is attractively priced.

I beleive they unveiled the 08 Accord and 09 TSX about 4-5 weeks before the on sale date. Accord I think was early Augus tieh like a 9/12 on sale date or somehting like that. I think TSX was also about 4 weeks.

The TL looks pretty nice in the video...how sweet would it have been if the lower DRL's were LED's? That would really rival Audi, don't cha think?

I said that the new TL looks like a GS / G35 in motion, in an earlier post...but, does it not look like a Jaguar XF from a side profile perspective? SWEET!!!

I'm liking it more and more....

Not once you account for the huge increase in weight that the AWD will surely add, and then kill a few more horses because of the powertrain losses of the AWD.

Here is a made-up (pull out of my hat) scenario to illustrate how it might play-out.

Given 3rd Gen stats = 258 HP at 3580 lbs

Exaggerated 4th Gen AWD stats = 305 at 3930 lbs

3580 / 3930 x 305 = 278 HP equivalent to the 3rd Gen based on weight differences.

278 x 0.97 (AWD power losses) = 270 HP equivalent to the 3rd Gen based on powertrain differences.

So in this made-up scenario, the AWD makes only about 10 HP more than the base 3rd Gen.

I don't really know how much power is loss because of the AWD, so that 3% is just pulled out of my hat for discussion sake. However, the added weight of 350 lbs is fairly realistic to me. The 3.5L TLS is already 100 lbs heavier than the base 3G. Then the 4th Gen has a bigger body, bigger engine (heavier?) and the AWD hardware surly weighs a lot.

Additional weight and hp lost at wheels due to AWD accounted for.

I can't recall whet was said in the video (I'll have to go back and watch again. Thanks to whomever re-upped it on YouTube). However, I assumed Acura moved the TL up to compete with the cars that I listed as part of its plan to become a tier 1 luxury car brand, and leave the TSX to compete in the entry level luxury segment.

I'm not sure what automakers have plants in the states now, but regardless, the average buyer doesn't care why one car costs more than another that offer similar features. He/she just knows that one costs more, which means more money subtracted from their bank account.

The 3G TL has a center crease as well, so the front license plate bracket will probably be similar in design (back of bracket contours the shape of the bumper).

No prob.

You are definitely right though--the new SH-AWD TL will likely not gain any ground in acceleration numbers due to the factors you listed. However, if it can maintain acceleration similar to the current base TL, I would be happy with that. I'm still pleased with the acceleration of my '04 even though it is about to turn 90,000 miles.

Just watched the beginning of the video again. RSA_Secure, you were right--the TL is still competing the in the entry luxo segment. Even at 42K fully loaded, it is right in the heat of its competitors in terms of pricing.

Did anyone hear the Acura engineer mention anything about the transmission (i.e. number of gears)?

From what I recall watching both vids the other day, I could've sworn the Acura engineer downplayed the acceleration but hyped up the handling.

And my '04 is about to hit 104,000. Rock solid so far. Just replaced a timing belt at 99k. Its reliability is about the only thing keeping me interested in the 4G.

The segment TSX competes in is filling up. A3, 1 series, talks about A and B class Mercedes etc etc (though not all have the same body style). With gas going up, I am sure TSX is an attractive option to more and more buyers.

I don't remember in which thread, but yesterday some guy talked about a 6AT for the AWD one like a sure thing, but I suspect it's only a BIG hope...

He said their current acceleration was efficient enough so they just put the type s motor (3.5 motor) in the new 09 Base. Which when you add the new weight will more in likely be the same performance numbers as the current 3g TL fwd. Then to compensate for the sh-awd they put the 3.7L. He said from what there heard from customers a V8 wasn't necessary. I still think the 08 TL-S will be the fastest out there for a couple years but the 09 Sh-awd will be the most fun around turns though.
I am so curious of what the new 09 Base and Sh-awd TL's weight is.

The video confirmed my thoughts on the front end - it's friggin' huge! It actually reminds me of the newer Cadillacs. I was originally joking around about using the front grille as a snow plow, but that's probably not too far-fetched an idea, lol...

Kinda funny all they show is the silver TL. The silver hides it a little bit..but still excessive.
My boss has an 08 TL. I showed him this video and he said I'm glad I got my 08. The 09 looks like it has a underbite.

I think if that were true, Acura chief engineer would have touted that. Unfortunately Acura is still stuck in the 90s
