I just went back and looked at the midsize luxury sedan offerings when the 3G TL came out back in 2004. Short of the G35 sedan, which came out with 260 hp, the TL outpaced all other midsize lux sedan offerings by 35+ hp. Maybe we can expect a similar margin from the '09 TL...

Still at first glance.
I'm going out to the garage to hug my RL now to show my appreciation for its classy, organic look.

This is one funny shot...more like acura leak shots instead of spys.
Three guys in the middle of the street: one looks like he's sitting down, another looks like he is dancing.
Then you got another three Acura secret service agents dashing out of the garage to quickly remask the beast.
The rear looks fully unmasked - nice posture.

I'm really not liking the new look. Its just too porky for me. Although i must admit that as ugly as Acura's new design language is (IMO), it fits bigger sedans better than it does smaller ones like the TSX. Not to mention that it looks great with some slight front end mods judging by the photochops.
I don't think 310 hp will be enough to get the TL back in the performance range it was once in, especially now with the cars like the G35 and 335i offering slightly less horsepower with a lot less weight.

I have a question. I read on acura.com that the TL will have the most powerful engine ever in Acura history, so can we expect it to be over 300 on the base and more on the SH-AWD and then later a bigger boast with the Type S... Somebody make have already posted the answers to this but I haven’t read all 2 million pages yet....

The "most powerful engine ever" will be in ONLY one of the trims - SH-AWD. ~310 HP.

I don't like it. The JJABER / csmeance photoshop I do like, however. After seeing a (projected) unmasked front and disliking the overall shape of the rear, I don't see myself visiting the Acura dealership when my current TL lease is up in the Fall. This is not all due to the redesign, though. I want my next car to be very sporty, while being luxurious @ the same time. So, I'm going after a BMW M3 or an Audi S5.
If I were going for a sedan, even though I dislike the look of the TL in print, I would still take a gander at it. When the TSX photos were released, I found the car hideous... and when I saw it in person I was like [ i still do not LIKE the TSX, as i never have, but it looks MUCH better in person than in photos ]

IIRC, the "word" is the base will get the ~290-ish HP 3.5L and the SH-AWD will get a tuned up 3.7L @ ~310HP.

I didn't have high expectations, but now I know my TL-S will probably be my last Acura. They obviously tried to make the front more aggressive with the angled headlights and larger grill areas... but like everyone said the camry doors, the tumor like bulge above the front wheel, weight, cheap OZ look-a-like wheels (which I've seen in person btw and aren't that great), lack of sidemarkers, and lack of a flowing body line just turns me off.
I hope someone from Acura R&D can see the photoshopped posts and maybe fix the 4th Gen TL-S with the modified styling cues.

I must say this car is slowly growing on me. I don't like the grill but I remember that was the one thing I didn't like when I got my TL back in 04. The big difference for me is the first look. When I first saw the 3g TL I loved it immediately not so with the 4g.
Ok question, What is with all the lights up front? The main headlights have blinkers, main projectors, and another light. The lower fogs look like it has a DRL, and my guess would be a fog. If this is so what is the light on the inside of the headlight for?
#1092
Burning Brakes
I think the light closest to the grill is the High Beams. On the 09 TSX, the highbeam and DRL use the same housing and theyre right next to the grill. Now that I think of it, I believe they use the same bulb. Maybe the industrial designer who designed the lower grill didnt want a huge plastic housing just for the fog light. It would look like the fog light is stranded out there by itself. Thats probably why they decided to drop the DRL down there.

How can those guys at jolopnik get it completly wrong? Haven't the models already been established? 350hp and DSG? Rediculous...
Anyway, I'm liking what the back looks like, even if its from VERY VERY far away.

Ur dumb this will be faster then the 3g tl no matter what. Acura isn't stupid to make the 09 tl slower. And the 3g tl weighs 3,650pounds while this car will weigh almost 4,000, but that 310hp and like 288torque will make it fast. I bet 0-60 in this car will be 5.8. Btw whats faster awd or fwd.

Thought I'd keep the Photoshop fire burning with my rendition of the '09 A-Spec...I agree that the grille trim should be body color and I prefer the "shield" to be a little lower...

Just my thought but I do think the 3.7L sh-awd might be faster 0-60...just because of the 310hp and the sh-awd quickness off the line. As for the sh-awd added weight though...how much does that drivetrain add anybody know?
Dyno's on the Rl lose ~35% of the HP to Wheels.
Dyno's of the TL lose ~17% of the HP to the Wheels.
IOW:
RL = 290 HP crank --> ~190 WHP
TL Base = 258 Crank --> ~215 WHP
TL-S (5AT) = 286 Crank --> ~235 WHP
GUESS: '09 TL SH-AWD = 310 Crank --> ~215 WHP
SH-AWD Torque on the RL ain't bad, but it stand up and Scream "Acceleration" either.
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...highlight=Dyno
That dyno is before the MMY refresh, so maybe a couple more points to the RL woith the 3.7L. Point is the SH-AWD as deployed loses a LOT of HP to the drive train.

Guages looked Cocked to the side.
Wonder if that Navi "hood" folds down when not in use?

The latest spy shots reveal the Acura’s twin-pod gauge cluster and a large hood atop the center console — likely housing the car’s navigation system. The latter seems a bit out of place but could be toned down for production.

I'll be really disappointed if the new TL isn't push button start. When I was at the Acura dealer yesterday I was very impressed by the new TSX interior (which looks much like the TL interior spy shot above), but was also surprised that the TSX (a 30k car) wouldn't have push button start?
The gauges (which look much like the TL above) of the TSX per also impressive IMO....

Whats the big deal about push button start? I worked at Infiniti for a while and all the cars they have are push start but I never got the big deal about it...just another function to disconnect the driver from the car
Another thing i cant STAND is turn signals on the mirror
The steering wheel looks very thick and meaty...the center stack will probably be identical to the MDX.

the 09 RL's 3.7L V6 puts out 300HP 271lb-ft TQ
the 08 MDX's 3.7L V6 puts out 300HP and 275lb-ft TQ
so if the TL has 310HP i would only imagine that Acura would giv this thing more TQ. I seriously doubt it will have as much drivetrain loss as the RL too. due to newer tecnology, hopefully a SHAWD system that doesnt have as much drivetrain loss. I also doubt Acura would make the TL as heavy as the RL for acceleration purposes. Hopefully nothing higher than 6.0 will b the 0-60

The rated output is "mis-leading" given the loss to the wheels. If those number stayed with the "traditional" 17% DT loss, they'd be GREAT!
I just don't see Acura deploying new SH-AWD capability in the TL. If they had it, they would've deployed it in the RL MMY Refresh or in the MDX.
My and worth exactly what you paid for it.

Look, the 3.7 is maxed out at it's power, push it harder and it's going to have a shorter life. Acura pushed 10 more HP by retuning it. I'd be that they dropped Tq in order to get that more HP.
Also SH-AWD is stupid crazy with driveterrain loss. Honda's loose about 18% with FWD or RWD, but with AWD, they loose 33%.
the only thing that may help the new TL is an all aluminum frame and body parts to cut down on weight.
Just to sum it up, the new TL SHAWD will be slower than the current TL, but the base FWD may be a little faster than the current TL-S

Yeah, I agree...
I actually think the MDX interior is SICK, so that is a good thing. I'd guess there'd be a few changes specific to the TL, but so far, it looks close to that.
