I take what the dealers say with a grain of salt, because they certainly have a vested interest in selling lots of TLs. But it makes sense that Acura would save their best design for the TL. The TSX is the budget level luxury car, and the RL is a fairly low production volume car. Did the dealer give you any idea how long before the reveal? I suppose it could still be a month or two depending on how many 08 TLs they still have to get rid of.

He even dispelled the notion that SH-AWD will add a ton of weight to the TL, not true. He pulled out a picture of the '09 RL's drivetrain from a brochure and it doesn't look very bulky at all. I think most people are talking about other car manufacturer's system and are assuming Acura's system is similar, but it's not. Yes, it will add SOME weight to the car, but not to the point where it will feel like you're driving a tank.

But your question is the one I have: How can C&D get away with publishing that "photo" as if it were, in fact, at TL with no disclaimer?
I'd think Acura would be pretty pissed that a highly regarded (or at least highly circulated) magazine would mis-represent the Acura brand in that way.

Are people not reading this thread? There are so many posts on here that are reposts of something posted 4 posts up. We don't expect you to read all 50+ pages, but at least read the same page that you're posting on.

Full of water...
new tsx front + new rims + the majority of the new accord body (everything behind the grill) = the photo we see
ok, so acura released photos of the TSX and RL a month or so before release, why would we assume they would do anything different for the TL...

Just to chime in about the TSX - it does look better in person. The profile and tail end views really are sharp. However, while the nose is better than the photos, it's still far from perfect. It's just akward to have that much chrome randomly thrown on to the front of a car. It reminds me of an American car (Saturn in particular). It just seems to me that well put together luxury cars shouldn't rely on a lot of chrome to bring the style design together. The MDX (which I like) doesn't. It has more of a billeted look to it that works well with the front fascia. The RL is okay, but it doesn't dominate the front like the TSX does as that car is significant larger and the grill is much smaller. Not sure why they chose to go that direction, but I wonder if this look is going to be similar to the now defunct look that Subaru had pushed on the WRX and their new SUV.

It's just the same idle bullshit you read here. Only difference is they get it in print, so it has "credibility".
They lied about the photo, I figure they're "lying' about the specs (actually I assume they don't know, so they are guessing).

I saw a few TSX's at the dealer and I was suprised that the TSX looked nearly as large as the 3rd Gen TL.

Go Big Blue!
Yep, I took one for a test drive last weekend at my friends dealership and then parked it next to a new 08 TL. The TSX looked bigger, certainly wider. I think it also looked better (minus the tooth). I suppose that's good news for those who agree and also who are anticipating the new TL design. The people who have seen it in New Orleans seem to say it's very good looking and much different then the current gen.

Very little word on the technologies that will be in the car... Acura has always been a "technology leader". I have heard push button start, 20G audio HD, XM Real Time Traffic, and iPod connectivity.
Any word on adaptive cruise control or even better auto stop and go in traffic, Lane change warning etc? Will they jump to paddles or keep the current shift method.
I assume we are losing the touchscreen to get the Acura "iDrive" knob.
Any insight on the technology package from those at NO would be great.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the TL came out and it actually looked close to the Car and Driver picture....doesn't it look like somewhat close to teh covered up spy shots? I actually got excited before I read about the chop status, but hell, couldnt it be an accurate chop?

I don't even think the info is accurate, let alone the picture. It says 3.7 L 300hp pushed through the front wheels, but I think all of those reports from the dealer's meeting are saying SH-AWD which is more accurate.

I almost bought the G37 a month ago, but decided that I didn't like it more than my aging TL. So decided to wait to see how the 2009 TL matches up.
To be honest the grill/no grill debate is not all that important to me. I rarely drag race... so the 305hp vrs 330hp doesn't really drive my thinking.
I'm looking for over all look, presence, performance, and functions. Doesn't seem to be too much discussion on features.
