I'm more curious about the torque. The 3.7L in the MDX already has 275 @ 5k I believe....Would be awesome if they bumped it up to 285+

Would be cool if torque is greater than the MDX, but i highly doubt it. Look, Acura is always afraid of giving too much power that would overthrow their other models in the line up. Like with the RL vs. the TL-S. Acura really needs to grow a pair...

Sweet, 2009 TL AWD

http://www.leftlanenews.com/details-...-acura-tl.html

And now, just a few weeks after Honda/Acura's dealer meeting in New Orleans, information has been leaked about the upcoming 2009 Acura TL.

According to a source who attended the meeting, the 2009 Acura TL lineup will consist of two models: a base front-wheel drive car and an up-level all-wheel drive model. The front-driver will be powered by a 280 horsepower 3.5L V6 whereas the AWD model will receive its motivation from a 3.7L V6 producing 300 horsepower.

Despite boasting 300 horsepower and all-wheel drive, the range-topping model will not sport the Type-S nameplate. In fact, the source says that Acura will not offer a Type-S model, at least not in 2009 guise. It remains unclear if the performance model will eventually join the lineup.

Acura has promised us a new TL by the end of the year so a Los Angeles Auto Show reveal seems likely.
Ok, it seems like they would not do 3.5L with AWD. Even though they offer 3.7L with AWD I would still HIGHLY doubt the price will get close to $42000. Remember what our Type-S has now. It is basically a "fully loaded" TL with a 3.7L engine in it. Furthermore, usually AWD system should only cost extra $2000 (Max), because even Audi did not charge over $2000 for their quattro. Therefore, I would predict the all NEW 3.7L TL with AWD would cost around the edge on $40000 maybe little more or maybe little less. (Remember the ALL NEW TSX price tag only increase little bit)

I think so.
In Europe the 80% of Audi, BMW and Merc C and E classes are sold with the Diesel 320d, 220d compressor, 2.0TDI engine or, at least, the 3 liters engines are sold in small amount...

It depends if the new TL will be a "break point" for the Acura lineup. If the next RL will be V8, than the TL could take the free place of the old one RL...
And the Sh-AWD costs more than 2000$, more likely 3500-4000$.
The new TL will get many new features and technologies, it's the most important model for Acura... Thinking that the first spy shots of the 4gn TL we got at the end of July 2007, and the car looked almost READY, means that Acura is working like crazy on our next baby...

anything less than 300 hp/tq, V6 (possible turbo?), and SH-AWD would be a death wish in this segment.

i see it two ways, the 4G TL will either be a HUGE hit with fans and buying public alike or a HUGE disappointment. with a model this important, there is no middle ground.

i would love NOTHING MORE than for Acura to give the BMW's, Infiniti's, Mercedes', Cadillac's, and Lexus' buyers in this category a reason to regret their purchase. Honda is too good of a company to continue to let Acura be the underdog.

I''ve seen the new TSX in person, and to me, it looks like shitty, but once you add the A-spec kit with parking sensors, it looks pretty damn good, the kit is a one piece now, unlike my TL which is just a cover, I also got to drive the car against a few others, like the A4, 328, and is250, against the A4 and 328, hand's down the TSX is better, maybe not against the BMW's V6 but atleast in cornering, and well... personally... i hate the is250 with a passion, it's small, and cramped, and it makes me feel like i'm driving an enclosed motorcycle, but against the TSX in performance, the 250 actually won, i mean on acceleration and on cornering, just not on the space and comfort.
The new RL feels nice, and love the fact they paid more attention to detail, but goddamnit, THE FUCKEN CAR IS UGLY!!! lucky that this RL is only going to last a few more years, and i hope that the next one will really come out with a V10 and better styling!
I also had a chance to talk to the trainers about the grill, they said it's now acura's Hallmark image, so we can all forget about it going away in the future, but if it's anything like the TSX then once you see it in person, you might like it, it's just for now, acura takes shitty pics!

So after the dealer show, several blogs are mentioning details for the 4g. Can't someone find out whether there will be a 6mt offered in the 3.7 sh-awd version?

This is music to my ears...if they are going to make the base and AWD like this, then imagine what the TL-S I will be upgrading to 'round about 2011 will be equipped with!!!

I can't wait to trade Stella in for one so I can trash the current TL-S's!!

Exactly, if the base model (AWD version) is already coming out with 300hp, then the Type-S should be around 330.

Haha...Sandie may not have to worry about me driving to the Wet Coast to beat him, but you Al...be afraid, be very afraid...besides, the BASE will already be faster than your TL-S!!

If the Type-S comes out a couple years later (2010/11) it will have to be a chart-stopper! I mean, it couldn't just match the hp of the base, so it HAS to be up there at the range! I love it! It's about time Acura stepped up big! I agree with Trance...300 is simple not enough to keep up with it's rivals. But it's better than what we have now.

the base will have the fwd 280hp which is still less than the TLS but the 3.7 liter engine will have the 300hp w/ the sh-awd. Considering the weight factor and the difference in the engine size, it be a bit faster. Not sure if I'm right on that. I know awd adds weight, just don't know how much. Long story short, current TLS>09 TL!

if it has the engine that the current MDX has then it will be pretty fast. That thing moves for a SUV and is pretty torquey. The engine sounds like a beast too. (I'm driving one as a loaner right now )

I think Acura is going to FK it up. With the MDX and turbo they know how to do it.

IF THEY OFFERED a 2009 TL-S with SH-AWD, a turbo 3.5 or 3.7 liter with 350hp and 300#tq with a 6 speed manual, and not FK-UP the body, IT WOULD SELL LIKE HOT CAKES, and I would be all over it.

HELLO ACURA CAN YOU HEAR ME ?????

BUT will they offer a Type-S model the first year ??????
Probably NOT. And what about a MANUAL ?????
I hope they don't FK it up, but I think they will. IF SO its BMW TT Time.

well i am waiting here at Acura getting some service done and i spoke w/ some ppl here and they said they have seen the new TL and they claim it looks better than the current TL. They said that it will be out in August. For sure it is going to come w/ sh-awd and i think that one is going to be around the 300hp mark. The base TL is not going to be more than the current TLS.

That's hard to believe. It goes against everything we've heard. Also, an August delivery would mean dealers are ready to place orders soon. Details would have leaked out by now, don't you think?

I'll be stunned if it just shows up in showrooms this summer without any formal preview. December still sounds logical (after LA)

My dealer has actually already ordered 15 of them, he told me that when I purchased ours at the end of Jan- and he "confessed" he knows nothing and still has 15 on order-

I read somewhere that it will be at a car show somewhere in the USA in the early summer.

If they ONLY put the 3.7 liter RL engine in it, ACURA IS RETARDED.

330 HP MINIMUM, and a manual. Later ACURA.

With ONLY 300 hp and SH-AWD it will be slower then a 3rd gen TL-S. And without a manual expect 1/4 mile in low 15's. SHIT my Civic Si will beat it.

Went to my dealer on Friday, according to the General Manager who attended the Acura meeting in Louisiana, the 2009 TL is VERY impressive inside and out, the outside style according to him is way better than the current model -he said "gorgeous"- and has many design cues from the Concept4. The SHAWD version will have 310hp (3.7L). Take it for what it's worth.

Some of you guys need a reality check. 2009 TL-S with AWD and 350HP?! Get real. This is honda/acura we're talking about. Why don't you go buy a muscle car or something if you need that much power. Gasoline is at an all time high and diesel is over $4/gallon. The majority of Americans don't want 350HP AWD.

This is why you see Acura and most of their competitors offer two models; base and sport. And the base model sells a lot more than the sport (i.e. IS250 vs IS350 and 328i vs 335i). Even those two max out at 300HP.

I wouldn't expect too much of a change. Perhaps a 250-260HP base and 300HP sport with AWD. I for one welcome the 300HP AWD model even if it's slightly slower than the current TL-S. It's not like I really push the TL-S on my way to work or to buy groceries.

If you guys want race cars then don't buy Acura. Go get you a plastic Pontiac G8.
