im sure this was said here by this page 42.5, but why is it being so hard for this company to become badass!? they went racing in LeMans series with their 3.4L V8 and RWD, why cant this come to the street? i wanna see it in '09! KeithL's take on some of the upcoming lineup would bring "badass-ness" back to acura...and they should bring their V8 race knowledge and technology to the street. period. what they do may make/break the company...obviously lol

08' WDP Type S
No matter what happens...I will continue to love my recent purchase of an 08' TL-S WDP.
Forget this waiting nonsense! I do hope they ditch the tape deck though.

And now I have to slap my own hand for wandering OFF TOPIC.
If we want to continue this train of thought, we will have to re-post it in Car Talk.

You would think Honda knows it has a damn near perfect car right now, I mean it outsells the G35 and it is a 5 year old design vs. their new design!! They need to evolve it, and ditch that new stupid grill!! RL and TSX have me thinking my 08 Type-S is it, next up for me G37 sedan. What they need is HD based navi and music box, vented seats, bump the HP for those people that don't think 286HP is enough and bump up the ELs to the 410 watts in the TSX and MDX.

Now, in the case of the RL. I'd go for some big chages there because before they relased this hideous '09 faceleift, it looked OK, but it definitely wasn't close to being a head-turner. I'm not sure Honda is watching the competition closely or they're just being stubborn. Their refusal to move to RWD (and offer V8 power) reminds me of the late 80s/early 90s when Toyota started offering a V6 in the Camry and Honda refused to offer a V6 in the Accord. I guess eventually a light clicked on, but it took until '95 to offer the Accord V6 and even then it cost 25 grand.

i think that the TL should also be aimed higher at midsize (GS, 5, E), and the TSX should make up the compact segment in Acura (just as Caddy should have a BLS and the CTS should move to the midsize; 3, C, IS), and an RL/Legend aimed directly at the LS (and then acura can be a tier 1 like they wanted))
but that's just what i think. but it probably won't be competitive unless they make some big engine changes.
the 3 is hardly larger than a civic.. and in these days, just having more standard features does not sell cars (hyundai will have a ball with the genesis, though)

November is def. the showroom floor. I believe someone above said that the head of the Acura division is going to a special private unveiling of the 4G TL at the end of this month so we shouldn't expect to see it until May or June.

I think that we are all spoiled by how good our 3 gen TL looks, and the reality is that the 4 gen TL is probably not gonna look better than the 3rd gen anyway, whether it has the new grill or not. As long as it's not BUTT ugly and has nice features and power, it's gonna sell like hotcakes. We all complain about things and then things usually grow on us and we buy it. Prime example, the '07 TL MMC. We were all impatiently waiting to see what Acura had up their sleeves, and when we finally saw the Kinetic Blue TL in the Boston Globe article, people complained about how UGLY the wheels were. People cried about how UGLY the turn signal mirrors were (what the hell do good looking turn signal mirrors look like anyway?). Some said the fog lights were UGLY, the tailights were UGLY, but then members on this forum turned around and bought it anyway. The 4 gen TL will be no different. We'll cry about how UGLY it looks and how much we can't stand the new grill, but then we'll end up getting one anyway.

You hit the nail on the head with that one.

I'm hoping the people maintaining the acura website accidentally mess up and post the 2009 TL info early

Well written, at the moment both Toyota and Honda are in this BOLD styling movement at both manufacturers. Compare the 1G to 2G MDX, the 2G to 3G TL, and 7G to 8G Accord. Likewise I wasn't too enamored with the Type-S when it came out (my boss has a 07 5AT Type-S), but the wheels and front-end have grown on me. Similar to the 3G and 4G BMW 7-series. The 3G 7 series had great lines and flowed well and when the first year 4G came out well it looked awkward. The 2G TSX looks like a fairly tame restyling of the 1G which seems odd compared to the 1G to 2G MDX. Like many on this thread, that grill just looks out of place. I really prefer the pointed hood of the Acura models in recent years to the bold macho grill.

I have yet to find an automobile that just looks as nice as the TL. There isn't a bad angle to it. Forget all of the creasing, bending etc to make a statement... you just cant beat plain old "good looks" when it comes to wanting and buying a car, on the emotional level.

Personally...I'm really hoping the new TL looks good. However, with Honda's most recent releases (TSX and now the Pilot...), my hopes are slowly dwindling....

New info on 09 TL
Here is a little info on the 2009 TL, it will first come out with FWD in September and have 280 horsepower, the AWD version will come out in November with 305 horsepower. It will also have push button start. This is all I know as of now, will post more when I get it on Monday.

I do not have pictures, there is a dealer meeting in New Orleans going on right now and someone from my dealership called to tell me that he saw it and it looks nothing like the current TL. He wasn't able to give me much information but he sounded very impressed by it.
