There's a VERY good chance that the 2009 TL will not be on the sales floor till next year. So I assume the pictures won't be released till summer(?). Again, I have no proof, but this is based on what I know about the gauge mass production date (which I can't release).

If gth181a is who he said he is (which I have no reason to challenge), it jibes with the "troubles" I reported they were having getting the lap times / engine performance they wanted with the SH-AWD a ways back.

More importantly -- for all the folks that are saying "who needs 300+ HP", that's the price of entry in this segment if you want to be a player. Period. If you want nifty gas mileage and a great bang for the buck, get out of the category and go get a loaded Accord or Altima.

Acura has made all these sweeping statements about distancing themselves from Honda and standing on their own two feet with more "unique" vehicles, I sure hope this is shown in the 4G TL.

Trust me. If true, this delay can only be good.

While Acura fiddles around.....ill be enjoying my Type-s. Maybe they want to hold back the intro of the new TL so the TSX can get it's shine. That's what we did when the 08 accord came out. They held the pilot over a year so the accord didnt have to share the stage. (i work for honda btw)

Maybe create some buzz for the TL in it's "new" 6-billion person market? That might make a LOT of sense.

beinjing has a lot of cherrys and hundyais.. I didn't see too many Hondas. The nicer cars were Mercedes E's and S's and Bmw 7's..

I like the idea of a 2 door car except when you have to get in the backseat..

I think the reason Acura doesn't want to show 4G TL is becuose it is so fugly they don't want the word to spread around and completly kill all sales.

If this is true, the TL will probably debut at Bejing to put a splash on the Chinese market.

Well that news is from 2006, not that recent. And I pretty doubt that Acura will introduce the new TL in China, since the TL is just selling less than 2 year in China. I guess China will not get the new TL until another year or two

I think Acura would be making a big mistake if they adopt the mindset suggested that the new TL can't have more power than the "flagship" RL. If Cadillac were still stuck in that mindset, the new CTS (and upcoming CTS-V) would be heavily neutered compared to what was delivered. The DI V6 in the new CTS pushes out 304HP vs. 302 for the same engine in the STS. Granted, you can get a V8 in the STS. In the V series, the CTS is going to come out with almost 100HP more than the STS! Overall, the STS got a mild freshening of the interior (which is still awful) and the exterior, while the major resources were committed to delivering a a major shock to the market with the new CTS.

Hopefully, Acura will prove smart enough to understand, as Cadillac did, that this market has moved up. Acura cannot castrate the 4G TL to maintain a family pecking order with the RL if the next gen TL is going to hang with the market. I hope the delay means they are seriously looking at what the rest of the market has brought to bear and plan to surpass it.

this is killing me, turned in my 04 at end of lease the other day and now I'm driving my beater Wrangler around every day. If they don't announce something before it starts to get warm I'm going to buy a 335i convertible

Hahaha...you guys ain't gonna make it to 100 pages if you don't stay on topic.

Though truth be told, what could you possibly have to talk about here when the car hasn't even been released yet?

Edit: LOL at mods keep changing the thread content and page counts!

That might not be all bad

Maybe the thread should be restarted, rather than have 100 useless pages, especially now that it appears that nothing solid will materialize before summer.

Hi All,

I am a former owner of a '04 TL. I now have a '07 RL and lurk over on the RL side.

Just had some extended family in for Easter. He works at Marysville. This may have been already posted, but he says they are test buliding the new TL now. He says they will change over May-ish to production of the new TL. He says initially they will build a FWD model, then build a SH-AWD version. Look fior the FWD version mid-summer and the SH-AWD version in the fall.

Sorry if this was already common knowledge, I didn't have time to read this entire thread!

I just came back from the NY Auto Show. Sadly, the Acura booth was one of the least crowded at the show. I think they really screwed up by not having the ’09 TL there. I spoke with three of the Acura people there and this is what they had to say when I questioned about the 4G…

First: It will be released next year. AWD will be an option after 6 months. She also thought it would be there. Obviously she was pretty clueless.

Second: Didn’t know anything about it. Suggested I check acuranews.com.

Third: She was clearly the most knowledgeable. She said it should be released in October. AWD is the biggest rumor but she can’t confirm it. She said it will be bigger then the current generation and will have the new grill. It will have all of the new technology such as USB port, Nav Traffic, etc. When I asked about HP she said it won’t be over 300 because that would make it more powerful then the RL. She said that the current generation Type S was very successful so there is a strong possibility we will see one.

If you want to see some pics of the new TSX and RL that were there, see this thread...Here

I just don't get Acura's marketing. They (Honda Co) are just so stubbornly entrenched in their secretive ways. Firstly they don't debut the 09 TL at one of the premiere auto shows (NYAS). Secondly they would (reportedly) wait 6months to debut the AWD after the FWD options comes out. The masses have spoken on the FWD issue. Despite how much the 3G TL has been an engineering masterpiece (for a FWD vehicle) people expect RWD or AWD in a car in it's class.

Honda may be smart about the HP thing. I don't care if it doesn't go over 300HP. With the price of gas not coming down anytime soon and likely hitting $4/gallon for super coupled with the tougher emission standards that will expected it's prudent to rein in the HP wars. If it has an AWD option with HP in the 260s-290ish range I'll be happy and consider trading in my 05 maybe in 2010-2011.

Could Acura make a good engine for the TL that takes regular gas? The extra cost for premium bugs me every time I fill up, especially at these prices. I know it's not that much money but the extra cost is a nuisance.

I also think they should adopt the variable cylinder technology to improve highway milage.

Thats a negative, the premium fuel is needed due to the high compression of the motor. IF regular is used, it will cause knock in the engine, and timing can only be retarded to a limit. Acura needs the high compression to make the power out of such a small block with Natural Aspiration.

as for the VCM, it really won't help out, the V6 is pretty efficiently, and on the honda accord, it only give 1 more mile to the gallon on the v6, which people won't fork 2000 more dollars for.

pikabb - Thanks for posting your research for all of us to share! Contacting multiple sources helps with the collaboration!

This member's assessment: Back in your hole and wait six months! That's what I'm going to do with the whole 4G thing. Well, maybe just four months...

Guys I took a look back at the Acura TL Vs G35 for model year 2004.. it seems that the TL came out at 270hp and the G35 was 260 for the sedan. We could get a 340 hp TL to compete with the G35 and 37. Cross your fingers

I don't think Acura is concerned about competing with the G37, a nomenclature that currently only applies to the G coupe. While I'm sure the G sedan will one day get the 3.7L VQ engine, if it doesn't happen for the '09 G sedan, the highest output we will likely see for the 4G TL is 310 hp.

But like all of us here on AZ, I'm on the outside looking in, so I don't really know...

the problem is that acura needs to adopt new motors. The current MDX 3.7 gives out 300 HP and its almost pushed to the max. that means 81.08 HP per liter. The 3.5 TL gives out 286, meaning 81.7 hp per liter, and the 3.2 gives 80.625 HP per liter. This would mean acura would need a 4.2 liter V6 to generate 340 hp. Acura needs to step up and get some better motors that are more efficent and get closer to the NSX's 100HP per liter.

the infiniti's have much more power per liter in their cars, the g35 had 306 from a 3.5 litre motor, thats about 87.4 HP/Liter
