that is rough to look at it, it looks even more stupid that it looks exactly like the accord, pretty bad,

hopefully the tl will stand alone again if not the new cts coupe looks pretty sick

Me too. If someone can photoshop the grill and black it out, or even swap it with the MDX grill, I dont think itll be that bad.

The RL, TL, and TSX will all have that same grille. It may work more on the TL and TSX because those cars are more sports oriented. It looks ridiculous on the RL because it's supposed to be a touring luxury car. The current RL kind of looked like an accord, shape wise. This refresh kind of still looks like an accord, shape wise, now they have this grille pasted on. It just doesn't go together.

The new RL looks terrible. If they do that to the TL count on me staying in my 3G for a while and then likely leaving the brand. That is unless they do a mid-cycle redesign. Here is to hopeing that Acura doesn't ruin the best thing they have going.

hey at least if the new tl is ugly it will be easier to sell our cars, right?

honestly though whats the point of the new rl, why would anyone buy it instead of an accord for 20g's less, def worse car to have for 50k,

Hope springs eternal.

The RL is almost irrelevant to me as it is not on my radar as a potential XPmobile.

As a possible harbinger of the 2009 TL styling, it takes on some importance.

Does anyone else notice the BMW influences inside and out?

The shark fin antenna (no practical reason for that). And the ersatz i-drive? The Chris Bangle butt?

Did they really take all the things I DON'T like about BMW and paste them on the RL?

IIRC, the RL is made in Japan and has a different design group from the TL which is an American car.

I'm hoping anyway.

The New Saturn?

WHOA...

what in the heck were they thinking of...

A Saturn Front end courtesy of the Aura,

and a Bangle butt?

I will admit, the interior still shines as an example of what Acura does right.

what happened to all of the consumer input

It is funny because we are constantly getting these surveys about new technology, real vs. fake wood, and leather vs. pleather and yet they don't consider external design preferences. It is strange that they wouldn't get consumer input on visual preferences as well. They could have sent a survey to us and given us a few shots of front fascias or the car's back, and we could give FREE consumer feedback, which we did on all of the other Acura surveys.

Just went to the Acura website and I'm not encouraged! Under their future vehicles tab, I looked at the RL. One of the statements in the "style" section is: "Bold, eye-catching front end that reflects Acura's new design direction". I really hope not!

I've been holding off on modding my TL any more until I see what the '09 looks like, just in case I want that one. Now I'm inclinded to work with what I've got.

On a separate note, maybe we could all get jobs as Acura designers. From what I see, the get paid to sit around and think come up with designs like the RL? <--- Acura design staff

As long as you exclude the center stack I'll agree with you. Could they have possibly made that center console more rigid looking? Everything else in the interior is shaped and curved, flowing lines and all. And then - Bam. Right smack in the middle is what could be described as a skyscraper design from the seventies. Hell, the MDX center stack at least flows a little. This just sucks.

The more I look at it, I see where they were going, I think .. The back looks reminiscent of a BMW 5 series, and the front looks like a Cadillac Cts or Sts..

sad to see the RL change from the 1999-2004 design to the 09 design. it's their flagship.

not feeling the new design. looks like shit for a $40-50k car. IMO, Hyundai Genesis is way more attractive than the new RL.

^^ Yeah right

While I don't think the RL is the prettiest car out there, it looks a TON better in person than in pictures. I just saw one today, and the front end is pretty aggressive looking...kind of has an evil grin to it. That Hyundai looks like a fancy Camry to me

That's the concept Genesis, this is what we'll be seeing:

Sorry to go off topic on this, i'm actually looking forward to the Genesis, 368hp V-8, RWD, 6 speed auto sounds like it will be pretty fun to drive, my friend works for a Toyota/Hyundai/Subaru/Nissan/Ford/Chevrolet auto group so when it comes out I think i'll go drive one

I am extremely scared....If that is in fact the "refreshed RL" and if it has any indication of where their design team is going....I think i'll have to leave the Acura family when the time comes.

i guess the "advanced sedan concept" is still about 20 years away, i dont see anything in the concept that near this model,

if the RL is based of the accord, the TSX is based of the euro accord, what is the TL going to be based off, something completely diff hopefully

So I'm not the only one who is REALLY afraid that the new TL is going to get that lame-o "power plenum" huh?

If so, I'm going to run out and get a 2008 while supplies last!

The RL is based off the Legend (in Japan), the TL is based off the Accord (US vers.), and the TSX is based off the Euro accord. That was always my understanding...

TSX = Euro Accord
TL = US Accord
RL = Stretched US Accord? or is it a single model platform they have?

nice pics! that genesis looks very clean and sharp. atleast its front end looks better than the new RL.

Legend/99-04 RL > 09 RL. I guess we have to see it in person first.

I don't think seeing an 09 RL in person is going to help. The Genesis with a six will outsell it.

Those pictures weren't real though right? Thats how the UDM RL is going to look like? How is it any different than the Accord? Line for line, its the same fucking car. Even has the same damn wheels...

Wow! Not sure where Acura is going with the RL. The RL has never been a real hot seller, this is not going to help. What bothers me is that it looks like they had a good design going in the front end until the grille section. Are they trying to piss off Rudolf the red-nosed raindeer?

Don't worry, the spy shots of the next TL look ok, even with the strange grille configuration.

If they shaped the headlights more edgy, removed the "A" from the grill, maybe paint the grill to match the car, change the fog lights, the bottom grill, man fuck it, they need to redesign the whole car again.

The back isn't all that bad, I can see Acura trying to achieve more of a non curvish type of car "( comparing to the current generation ).

This pretty much sums up the RL,

Now I'm convinced my next car will not be part of the Acura family...not with that design trend they are infecting their cars with. This will be my next ride for sure (just need to prepare for frequent visits to the gas station),

For what its worth i think its a great looking car. I dont think it should be a flagship though. They should have a bigger V8 powered car as their flagship. It looks hot in black and that red too~!
