Thanks Steven! I feel like I'm getting better in my technicals, and being more creative. A lot of the shots are all from my yard!

Anxious to see what John says, since he's my mentor currently

You're welcome-I just got a Canon T4i. I took it on my honeymoon last week. I got it 2 days before we left, so I was learning the camera while in the field. But your pictures are impressive.

Sorry I was so late to get back here. Had an interesting weekend.

These are the ones Shoeface asked for, they are all downloadable now, the full 13mp shots. I figured I'd let you all get a chance to grab them if you want

Example of an "Original" size (click this picture and it will resize to your screen/browser) I normally only at the 1600x1200 pixel size just because of the resizing issues on forums.

Couple from before the weekend even started.

Every thursday in the summers in my town, there is "Concert in the Park" for free. This was an especially large turnout!

Local bar's glass insignia is great IMO. It's called the BeeHive Bar and Grill....what better than a drunk bee with a beer???

Small park called 'Lincoln Park' if front of the local catholic church (been there almost 200 years I think) It's really not big at all, about 1 square block.

Steven, yeah as he said I'm carless. I wish I still had my TL.

Anil, look at some photo blogs for tips. I still peruse them from time to time for 'advanced' tips. Also @ steven, do the same. Stick to manual focus for awhile, and once you get the feel for that, start playing with 'M' mode. It's ALLL practice my friends. I have SOOOOO much to learn and I've been around camera's for more than half my life!

I avoid P, I'd rather use A which is aperture priority. You only have to choose the ISO and the F values, and aperture is where you can get a photo to look the way you want I think. Then you can use the overall exposure (+/-) value to set it to have more or less shadows.

only one twig of life on this tree

EXACTLY!!!!!! I could never afford this hobby if it weren't for digital. Nor would I be anywhere near as good.

I set a limit for how many pics I can take and how many need to be keepers, and that keeps me in the realm of being able to shoot film, but it's much harder that way. To learn you would need to take notes of all your setting every time

I remember the dark room in high school...it was a lot of fun. But yeah, being able to shoot shoot shoot and delete is amazing.

Foggy evening.

Holly and her gorgeous eyes.

St. Francis of Ascici, the patron saint of animals. We've had this in the yard for about 15 years.

Long exposure from the deck.

Same night (last night), only a few stars were bright enough to shine through the clouds.

Holly is always a great subject...loving that long exposure one.
Took a bunch of pictures on Saturday...had to delete them ALL. I was trying to go manual mode and didn't work out too well. I need to read up on the settings.

Just gotta keep your eye on the exposure slider while you're lining up a shot man! Pick your ISO (low for sunny days, higher as its darker) and then test shoot a couple to get the shutter speed in the right area...at this time correct your white balance (if you aren't using auto WB that is). From there you really only have to spot test and correct the slider. for your black car, I would try and start around +1 to +2 (basically the far side) to get nice reflections. Then if you need, move closer to zero if needed, or even faster shutter if you want that dramatic shadowy look.

Thanks man! Appreciate it.

Here's just another 're-do' I did today.

the black/white contrast of his car really frustrates me though.

Yeah, you're shooting a bright white with a dark black, very heavy contrast plus the shining sun.

basically ANYTHING black sucks...you have to tone down the brightness so the car doesn't pop too much but also lighten it up to be able to see the rims or it looks like it's rolling on steel rims.

This is true.

Anil, on white black, you basically chose between having the black rims being exposed right or the paint. You literally can't have both. One is always over exposed, then the other is under exposed. Well, in direct sunlight at least.

Srsly, every 'cool car' photo you see online is heavily post processed. I edited those last two shots overall, but need an editor to do spot touchups again.

Not to be a dick, I tell many people this, but if you don't know what you're doing with a DSLR and you only shoot "snap shots", a DSLR is worthless to you.
