Random but I was going through some of the first pages of this thread (admiring black on black hotness) and I noticed you have DRLs installed in the integrated fog location with amber output.

Ive been searching how to reach this on my 04 TL since I have bumper fogs as well. I found a module on eBay (id link but im on my iphone) but haven't pulled the trigger yet. What bulbs and module do u have in there? Nokya?

Hey Bud...

yeah, they are nokya yellows, not amber.
The module is one they used to sell on autobarn...google DRL module. BUT, sadly, last I read, they had discontinued it!

Good luck!

Thanks for the compliment, man...

going fast is a must...
as you get older though, you start caring about how you're going to slow down AND keep it on the road.

i hear you. hitting that stage already. but if i were to get in trouble, i'd make sure it either was minimal or fatal. i do NOT plan to end up in a wheelchair because i was out having fun. would have no problem going out doing what i absolutely love.

when you going for new shots? the ones up by your 'rents are nice...you gotta find yourself a little forest road! those pictures always come out nice as hell

PS, from the brakemotive thread...my most recent annoyance and realization...

ean, I have a problem...
So, ever since install, I THOUGHT I heard this noise, but I almost always ride with music loud etc. So, yesterday when driving home I thought I heard something weird...like a slap slap slap sound.

Today, when getting on the highway, I was near a wall with no music and was able to REALLY hear it as the sound bounced off the wall. I did some troubleshooting, checking if tires had a nail or something...no, rubbing on fender liner etc...

Finally I pulled the rim off to REALLY hear it and sure enough it wasn't the dust shield or anything else. It's the pad...I'm running an autozone cmax gold ceramic pad (all around actually) and they have a lifetime warranty. They do NOT have a chamferred edge and I THINK that's why it's making this odd noise when spinning. I think the slots/drilled areas on the rotor are making it while the flat edge of the pad is passing over. I guess 1 solution would be to get a grinder and grind a chamfer on there...but I'd rather not have to.

Anyone with OEM's having this issue? Or maybe just didn't notice it? I popped the chamferred powerstop pads in to test and sure enough, it stopped. But what happens when the chamfer is gone from those? Plus, I just spend 55 bucks on those pads.

Watch the vid, please and let me know your thoughts. Obviously there is some sound from the pads making contact, note, that is NOT what I'm talking about...you'll hear the slapping sound pretty clearly on the first rim I spin, both times but especially the second time.

J.

Thanks!

^^i had the beveled edge on my s4 pads, but i could hear every slot while I drove. does it get noticeably louder when lightly on the brakes? before that brake grabbing noise starts...ya know what i mean?

from what i hear, that sounds normal...but can't tell how loud it actually is...also, in the end you say you hadn't hit the brakes. but i know that there is supposed to be a minimal amount of contact normally

^^^Thanks man...

Sean, no, the first side of the video...there is a really loud FWAP FWAP FWAP sound...and I can't even recreate the sound as loud as it gets because i can't spin it fast enough. It's LOUD, like wtf is wrong with that car loud...

J....why u crying for $55 when you will get them back LOL....

had the same problem while doing my girls Lexus brakes yesterday....the driver front was making noise and the shim was rubbing against he rotor ?

check the rotor to see if it has any sign of metal rubbing....i think the tab on the brake pad is rubbing against the rotors on BOTH sides....

No sir. It's not that! Give me more credit than that Anil!
I'm not getting my 55 bucks back, you jerkie!!!
I know what my solution will be though...since I would have had to sell the Evolution pads so cheap, I'll just keep em and rockem for a bit. Why not, right? Might as well.

Plus, when the time comes to put the autozones back on...I'll just use my grinder to put a little bit of a chamfer on the edge of them to get rid of the noise. It must be the perfect angle of the flat pad, and the angle of the slots on the rotors. NOTHING, not the rim, not the tire, not the hub, not the tabs, not the anything is rubbing...it's a harmonic weird vibration thing...

BOTH sides are doing it...listen to the video loud...I'm not being a baby about the pads making contact, it's not that...the first rim, the passenger rear...I spin it twice in the video...you'll hear it. it's a loud slapping noise...it gets louder as you get faster too...and I can't recreate it by hand.

J.

well give it a shot and see what the outcome is....

if you have used the EXACT same autozone pads in the past and you didht have to grind them, then i dont know what would change by doing this set....

before anything, try reinstalling them and using some grease in the pins and tabs....well either way, your car, your pads, your call

Just to play devil's advocate here...eventually the Powerstop pads you have in now will wear down past the beveled edge and end up having the same surface area on the pad face as the Autozone pads without the beveled edge. So what would the difference between the two be then? If your theory is correct, seems like theoretically the noise will eventually come back as the pads wear past the beveled edge.

For that reason only, I think grinding edges into the pads will only be a temporary fix, or worst-case scenario....won't fix the problem at all.

I know...I brought that up in the Brakemotive thread actually. He PM'd me back (Sean is his name too) and didn't sound like he understood what i was getting at...he also said that once the beveled edge was gone, the pads would be time to change anyway.

Anil, I know you know your sht and are trying to help bro...just having fun with you back. PS...I am pretty convinced you think I'm talking about the constant sound...I'm not, THAT is definitely constant pad contact. Listen to the vid again but loud...ignore the pad touching rotor sound and listen to that fwap fwap fwap...it gets louder as you spin the rim (so imagine at 70MPH how loud it is)...

There is no constant noise...so it's not something just making contact.

Ok, great news...
For me. This one's for you John.

So, I ordered replacement extended studs to replace the 4 I had to have drilled out. I got them and low and behold...they are 50MM ones. FK...they are longer than the extended ones that came with my 10MM spacer. Right?!? So I go back and forth with the seller, originally I thought they sent the wrong ones...but they didn't. I measured it wrong. So they tell me that they checked with Ichiba, and for THEIR 10MM spacer (I have Eibach) they only recommend to go with a 40MM extended stud...you don't need it to be the 45MM that the other ones are. SO basically, I'm returning the 50's for the 40's and swapping ALL of them out to that. So what does that mean? This means that I will now have an extra 5MM that I needed inside the Work lugs and will be able to run them again. Yay.

Already pulled the listing off of ebay!

GP...you are NOT really that old. If that is the case, I'm sorry for my comments on your avatar cause that means it had to have been your daughter.

J.

PS...yes sir, after 2 hours of basketball today, I got home and swapped the OTHER rear brake pads, just going to rock the powerstops and hope the noise never comes back. I'm pretty certain that by adding the chamfer, I won't have a problem with the noise returning.

Still studying to be in MET =)

That's why all my mods are cheap opposed to having crazy rims and a coilover kit.

Awesome! Glad it all worked out. If you ever decide to get the NRG lugs, I'll take your Works off your hands (by "take" I mean throw my money at you). I've put new lugs on the back burner for now...
