AFR will be ordered soon.

had a question/concern tho. i agree that a leaner AFR is ideal. but it has to be balanced against aggressive timing advance.

any advice/tips on getting the best of both worlds?

In this game, it's really up to you. Push it to the limits of timing and knock or safe within a certain realm.

But it's really only as good as your monitoring if you do decide to push limits.

The only thing you can monitor from the stock ecu is knock retard. Inacc has already described this as useless for detection and the reason he has an aftermarket unit. As important if not more than knowing you A/F ratio.

^looks like a knock monitor is a good idea too.

wasn't rodney selling one for $100 or something? isn't it just an indicator light that blinks when knock is present?

is Tim's different? i'll go read some links.

Tim has an aftermarket unit with I believe an analog out for logging.

It should work with the MS3 to pull timing but you also need to set a jumper inside the MS3. It would depend on what the knock box is outputting and what the MS3 wants for a signal.

Rodney is sending out the knocksense units. There is also a beta going on for an internal knock interface but it appears to be moving along VERY slowly.

Sharky you know all this.....this was discussed couple pages back

and i think $100 for the knock monitor which JnR was providing was a good deal....

if you still want in on that deal, text me and will figure something out for you with Rodney....

same goes for AFR sensor/controller/gauge

As people are beginning to realize after they've received their units, this isn't a simple Subie AccessPort or BullyDog programmer that just plugs in and you're off and running.

It was somewhat explained that although it is plug and play, it would likely not be optimal for driving habits and climate differences of each user. I think this point was taken a bit lightly.

I think SharksBreath is realizing this and is now asking some questions based on that. I would not have paid attention to things I didn't think I needed either. And in his case, he had a rock to buy.

i am ordering a AFR soon.

so you think i'm ok tho? i just don't want to unknowingly be causing damage to something. i don't have the knock sensor option or anything else, just the ECU.

oh yeah my AFR's are in the high 11's according to our trial run with the ECU this past weekend. could that have changed over the course of a day?
Sharky the only thing you are hurting is mpg's other than that you are fine till you get it retuned...IMO no need to unplug it unless you can't help it but to keep of wot till you retune!....since you have no cats you are not killing nothing....for example if I remember correctly when I was tuning on the dyno I was around 12.8ish or so for AFR!! I will have to rehook up and see what this new tune has me at!! but I also have CEL for rich codes and my knocking is normal or nothing crazy besides where it usually knocks at wot around vtec and over....I have not had no issues so far and those are only codes I got the running rich codes!!!....

Hope that puts you at ease a bit!!!

Well so far I have the following:

Justnspace: AFR + Knock Monitor
Feji: AFR + Injectors
Aaron: AFR + Knock Monitor + Injectors....

I spoke to Rodney yesterday and he will be getting couple pricing options for me tomorrow and I will post it up here

Feji and Aaron: Let me know about the Injectors (for sure) and if you also want the upgraded fuel pump or the pig tails for the injectors....

Just wanted to make a request. If the 'shop' TL is done testing, then that is fine. But if not, I have a request for a dyno with the intake manifold butterfly delete and a new tune. There is a dyno with solid evidence that the delete gains power untuned in the 4K area; a solid 5whp/5wtq. Possibly higher with a tune?

There are threads in the other model subforums and the consensus seems to be in N/A or lightly boosted applications, you'll suffer low end torque loss. Some said it was fine as they didn't want the down low power because it just results in wheel spin and the gains in the upper end was worth it.

It does bring up an interesting point for the FI guys who may not see this loss with boost. Hopefully Rodney can get some time to comment on this. He's been extremely busy so I wouldn't expect anything immediately.

^ That's totally fine, I wasn't expecting an immediate response. The dyno wasn't a direct before/after, but if any low end loss (I didn't feel any) it's minimal. This raises another question as well. The 'dip' at 4K that was experienced by the shop TL before VTEC engagement was raised was NOT seen after the butterfly delete. This leads me to believe that potentially, without the butterflies flaps, we may benefit from a lower VTEC point. This is all speculation, but it could be true.

Stock VTEC point for the Accord is 4900. I'm really wondering now, that if the butterfly delete got rid of the dip at 4K with no adustment of VTEC, then maybe lowering VTEC could actually be beneficial once the butterflies have been removed.

You would think there is some relationship between the two. Since the MS3 has additional inputs and outputs, there should be the ability to control that valve to have the best of both worlds. Or set the tune to just lock it open.

guys, i was checking out this AFR unit. it's LC-1 based...would that be a problem with this ECU?

plus...it lights up RED which would compliment the type-s lighting interior perfectly.

178 seems like a decent price....can you post a link ??? I know innovative's website sells them for 210 plus shipping....

the innovative link you posted is for the DB2 model which is more expensive than the LC1 which you posted from Amazon....

and the controller gives out 0-5V which I THINK compatible with the ECU....I think KN_TL or Sonnick can help you better here....neither i have the gauges nor the ECU

All,

The LC1's 0-5v calibration is supported by the megasquirt...its in the drop down menu for EGO AFR monitoring. Im using that profile for a different Innovate product....works just fine.
