^ Thread resurrection?! Man, I read all nine pages twice, and I may have missed it again. What drill bit size (and/or type) did you 4 bolt guys use? And you have to make the edge holes more oval? or just bigger so you can 'flex' and push the wing against the deck? I bought a used one off of Ebay and it came with no hardware no template. It's also the wrong color no biggy though. I'm thinking of rockin' the Black Deck Lid on WDP.... Fail? I'll take pics of it mocked up, b/c to me i didn't look so bad. And even if it don't look right just get it painted. Thanks.

I did 5 bolts, the two outside, two inner right next to the center AND the Center. Have to make them oval and then cut on the innerside to make the wall thinner.

A good idea that I did to get the holes proper before drilling was to place play doh on the decklid and then place the spoiler and press down.

I used a small unibit to drill. But Take a nail and make a indention so that the bit does slide around. I had to adjust the holes a little bit in order to get proper alignment but wasnt too bad.

The two outside holes are kinda hard to get the nuts onto. You may want to use a glue stick apply some on the nut and then place it on a socket and that should make it easier. I actually lost a socket and nut in the trunk and cant get it out.

Place black silicone around the holes you drilled to keep moisture from getting in. I also placed it around the outer edge of the spoiler and then cleaned it up once i got everything bolted down and tight so that you get no water between the spoiler and decklid

Time to bring this thread back to life for a quick question...

I just picked up a Type-S spoiler and plan to install it via the 3M tape route because I would like to have the option of removing it in the future when I eventually sell my car. My question is specifically a response to post #155 on page 4, but for all of you that installed your Type-S spoilers with tape, how is it holding up over time? Any problems with the edges coming loose? Still sturdy? I would like to see if the tape route has longevity...

I still recommend a bolt on each end to save you from the trouble of re-taping it in the future. It's not if it will come up but when it will come up. I think it will eventually come up at the ends as temperatures rise and fall. The trunk has a slight curve in it and the 3M tape will begin to lose its grip.

I'd say make it a permanent install. It's not worth removing unless you really need the money from the sale or you plan on getting another car with the same trunk.

how much does the dealership want for the type-s spoiler?

Well the stealership will charge you the list price of $628.07 for the Type-S spoiler. One popular place to find OEM parts for cheaper than the dealer is Delray Acura, better known for their website AcuraOEMparts.com. Check out their site: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no
Illustration #17 is the spoiler which they're selling for $471.05. The only other way to find the spoiler for a decent price is if you can find a used one (most likely on Acurazine). I was lucky enough to pick mine up for a price which is so good that I'm keeping it to myself!

Anyway back to my question...for those of you who have chosen to tape your Type-S spoilers on your trunk, how have they held up?? I know I'm going to get posts which tell me to drill holes and bolt it on (and I agree that this method is the correct way) but I probably will not bolt the spoiler on if I find that people who have taped it had good results...

WHAT?! the type S spoiler is $628 now? thats nuts for a spoiler.

+1....mine started to rise after a year and ive just been putting it off to fix it but you can see clearly that the spoiler is raising off the two sides

Hey Crook, I didn't realize it was you that made the DIY post I was referring to! Anyway, even though you told me your recommendation, what has been your experience with taping the Type-S spoiler on? You say you "...think it will eventually come up at the ends..." but since your post in Jan. 2007 (a long time IMO!) has it actually come up?!

Ok so I've thrown out the idea of just taping the spoiler to my trunk. I think I'm going to do as Crook says and drill two holes in my trunk where the bolts are located along the spoiler. I'll also line the perimeter of the spoiler with 3M double sided tape to ensure a snug fit. Do you guys think this will suffice? I don't plan on drilling holes for the five plastic snaps...

I'm just slightly concerned about the ends of the spoiler coming loose with only the two bolts...unless I'm mistaken (I hope!)

Yes, use a bolt on each end along with some 3M tape which will fill the gaps to prevent vibration buzz if you have a loud sub in the trunk.

Looking back on this thread, I saw that I originally mounted the spoiler with 3M tape in January 2007. I started noticing the ends popping up 2 months later (March 2007). In August 2007, I finally decided to pull the spoiler off and mount it with bolts to prevent this from happening again. (See post #295 in this thread) Everyone would be apprehensive about drilling into a perfectly good trunk lid but it was easier to do than you might think. I'm glad I finally mounted it with bolts and don't plan on ever removing it again.

Thanks, I ended up deciding not to just use 3M tape after getting feedback from a few members.

Now when you say a bolt at each end, do you mean in the existing locations where the bolts are located from the factory, or do you mean take out the outter-most clips and place the bolts here?

i used the 3m tape alot but water still gets under cuz it has a small gap so im thinking i should use glue instead...u guys have any suggestions?...i dont wanna drill cuz i didnt get a template with it
