This is for you Lee. Used nothing but 3M Super Strength Molding Tape.

Pictures of the entire car will come shortly in the next couple of days. Keep a look out in the Photograph Gallery.

07 Type-S spoiler

I just bought one for $130.00. I should be getting it installed in a few weeks. Wow, it's amazing what you can find if you look hard enough.

Thanks for the info. Keep it coming!!!

I finished taping (yes, no bolts or holes) my Type S spoiler on my 07 TL.

Here's some comparison shots of the real deal on a WDP Type S to mine:

Real:

Mine:

Real:

Mine:

And a bunch of others of mine:

I even used the paint can method

I think it's stuck on pretty good. I don't think it will last forever, but I think it will last as long as I own the car. And I figure worst case scenario is if it gets loose I bolt it on, as I saved the two bolts.

Argggggggg!

Still waiting on mine. got it from the dealer last week, but.......

I have Anthracite so i had to spend another $100 to get it repainted in my color. It really SUCKS that they discontinued it in 07.

I plan to use tape & C-Clamps to install mine. will post pics if it ever comes back from the body shop.

If you are going to leave the paint cans on a long time I'd get some blue painters tape and tape the spoiler to the top of the trunk to keep the spoiler from sliding down.

Any bodyshop could probably install the spoiler for a $100 or less. The body shop I take my cars too is that way. It doesn't take that long for them to install it either. If someone already mentioned, sorry for reposting. BTW, those spoilers look really nice.

Mine too - maybe that's why they supply 7 clips with it?.....LOL. I'm going to remove it once it gets nicer out and add two additional clips to the ends only. Once done I'll have 4 holes in the trunk lip but at least it will be secure.

I just used 3M tape to put mine on my NBP this evening. I'm using some weights to put down the weight down on the spoiler. I will add my picture once I washed my car.

The tape method is fine. Just make sure you've prepped the area, install it at a "normal" temperature (not extremely cold), and strategically place enough tape where you will need it (near the edges for instance).

The 3M tape is very strong and I think the issues with it is more or less concerning gaps.

This is just the beginning. Hang around us longer and you'll find yourself with the mod bug.

Good luck on the install and post pictures here when you are done.

It bothers me that 'this' thread is the 07 spoiler thread. The original post is so unworthy.

I was looking on here a couple months ago and there was a thread with a bunch of pictures that someone posted of how they taped their lip spoiler. It was a black TL and I remember a bunch of red tape... Now I can't find it for the life of me!! Does anyone know where it is?? Thanks!!

I noticed some slight lifting on the ends of the spoiler where I could have used a little more 3m tape. Only about 1 or 2 millimeter gap but the spoiler isn't at risk of coming off.

I would now suggest using extra 3m tape along the entire edge of the spoiler at both ends.

To the people who already installed theirs following my posts, I apologize. I wish I would have found out about this earlier.

I followed your post No worries though. I agree that the spoiler isn't going anywhere anytime soon. If I have to do it over sometime I'll double up the tape on the last 4 inches or so on each end.

the 2ndtime, I put more tape on. Plus I put another strip right along the inner edge of the rubber strip. it needs 3 layers by the parts in between where the clips/bolts were meant to go. the corners are the tricky part because there isn't enough of a flat surface to work with, so it will stick to the trunk very well, but the other side loses grip. it still wasn't too easy to rip pff the 1st time so, don't worry about it flying off

So I'm guessing the 2 bolt method would be better for the sake of having to re-apply the tape (if it happens)..

I did the two bolt method and mine is lifting on the edges too - I'm going back to add the two clips to the ends of the spoiler - so that woudl equal 4 small holes when all is said and done.

No wonder they give you 7 clips to install this sucker.

By adding the two end clips I think that will solve my lifting issue for good.......no problem for me drilling into the trunk as I don't ever plan on taking the spoiler off.

How many holes are you suppose to drill if you want to install it on the trunk the real way it was meant to be installed from factory? Basically how is it installed on the TYPE S?

2 Bolts
2 Plastic Plugs (Teal Blue in the pic)
3 Plastic Clips (White in the pic)

The two end ones should take care of the lifting

I did the two bolt method and mine is lifting on the edges also...I ordered 4 more bolts = 6 bolts holding down the lip, except for the middle opening (not using any of the clips that it came with). I know I have to slightly modify the clip open for the bolt. The parts # for the bolt, TAILGATE SPOILER is 71703-S6M-003 ...$1.77 each. I have not received it yet, still waiting for it. Once I put it on I will tell you how good the fit and finish is, using 6 bolts.

Before you go modding your spoiler for the added 4 bolts make sure you have enough clearance inside the trunk to add the nuts!

It was kinda tight in there and I have a funny feeling you won't be able to bolt up.

Quick Reply: I have installed a type-S spoiler on my 05 TL
