Ive always had worries about just sticking it on there. If it was meant to be drilled I would drill it.

But it looks like he used enough tape to hold it...

well if you do plan on taking it off I would clean the holes up and put some Zinc Chromate on them so they dont rust.. Thats what I put when I drilled my rear deck lid on.

just finished putting it on, I used the two bolts, and also ran two long strips of 3m double sided tapes to reinforce the lip, and also seal up any gaps. It came out looking great, totaly changed the look of the backend....love it..... so glad i went with the lips....

um... I didn't really pay attention on my drillbit size, I acutally started with the smallest drillbit, which looks like a needle, and then gradualy work up to the proper size drillbit, until the screw fits into the hole. I didn't use alcohol wipes or anything, just cleaned it really well.

I've asked this question a couple of times... but by the pictures I've seen, the holes drilled for the A-Spec lip are in the same spot as the S lip. You may be able to reuse the exisitng drilled holes.

I'm waiting for someone to confirm this.

ASpec spoiler is 555.5 mm or 21 7/8" between holes. This info is off the template that comes with the OEM accessory spoiler. May be someone with a new TL type S spoiler can measure the bolts on their's and pass it on.

Sorry but I don't have the template. I borrowed it from the parts guy at my local dealership when my car was in for service last week. I snapped a couple of pics while I checked it on my TL. He said if they did an install, he'd try to save the template for me. If you check with your local Acura service or parts dept. they may have one after an install. He said that the techs usually throw them away after they install a spoiler.

That sounds like a good idea, but where are you gonna get the template from so you know exactly where to drill the holes?

Homemade template TL-S Lip

This might help

To make the template:

1 - First I took off all the screws and posts in order to make the bottom of the lip as flat as possible.

2 - Next take a piece of tissue paper and wrap the bottom of the lip in tissue -
a couple pieces of tape here and there helped so it wouldn't move.

3 - Then take a crayon and rub the crayon over the tissue making a relief pattern around the edge of the lip and most importantly the holes which you will need to drill.

4 - Tape the tissue copy to the top of the box that your lip was shipped in and cut it out around the edges carefully.

5 - I used a razor to the cut out the portions of the lip which represented the screw and posts positions. Note which end of the cutout - the large end is NOT the end which gets drilled. That large end is the entry point of the screw or posts - the smaller side is where the screws and posts end up once you slide them back in. This little side is where you will drill so be mindful of that when drilling into your trunk.

6 - Finally I did a test fit to ensure my cutouts were in the right position and made some marks on the cardboard so I would know where to drill.

I'm doing my install Saturday - hopefully - and will post some pics when I'm done.

I hope somebody besides me finds this helpful - I'm really anal about my new TL. The thought of drilling in the wrong spot freaks me out. At least I have some guidance now with the template.

Just finished the install, went very smoothly. I went the drilling route instead of the tape only method, i was worried the tape method woudnt be as secure as drilling but im sure the tape method is just fine and will last with out any problems the piece of mind knowing that its secured with bolts is well worth the pain of drilling into the trunk. lol. Anyway here are a few pics.

I didn't get mine from TIM - bought it from AOE a while back - I received all of the OEM plastic clips, screws, washers and nuts. If you have the screws then go to Home Depot/Lowe's and get yourself some washers and nuts to match.

i just grabbed one on ebay stated as an oem product from an individual seller. even checked the part#. i have only two places for tabs, two screws that i can't get off for anything (going with all tape install bc i've done it before with a generic lip on my maxima), mounting hardware, a long ass metal bar, and its def the regular TL spoiler, not a TL

i'm about to take a dremel to these bolts, they have sort of a hexagonal shape embedded into the plastic. is anyone else in the same boat?

That sounds like the reg TL one - most here were going with the TL-S either because they liked it better or they like the $100.00 price better.

i c. i just thought i got a good deal considering i got it for 50 shipped and it was the regular TL lip. looking at the comparison pics. the TL-S is a lot larger and gives the rear end some body.

$50.00 for a reg TL lip off eBay???? Na......

There is a difference between OEM "like" and OEM - I've seen those lips on their and I don't think they are genuine Honda/Acura parts. Nothing wrong with them tho - I've read a few posts on the eBay ones...........

I bought mine from Hondacuraworld and it came with no extra hardware, only the two screws on the spoiler and the tabs. I had to go to Home Depot and pick up 2 nuts with the teflon locking grips. Size 10-32, it was $1.07 and used two washers i had left over from another project.

would the ebay oem "like" products go as far as providing the template and have the honda logo on the underside of the spoiler? bc i dunno if knockoff producers would go into much detail?

Yep, wasnt that bad at all. Made my own template with construction paper i bought at Walmart. I fitted it perfectly to the underside of the spoiler following the curvature of the spoiler and everthing, cut it to the exact size and marked the screw holes. Then i placed the spoiler onto the trunk and with an orange highlighter i traced the outline of the spoiler on the trunk. Matched up the template to the orange outline, marked the holes and drilled. Came out perfect on the left side, the right side i had to enlarge the hole by a mm to get the fit perfect.

Self made template here too ........used some tissue - transferred the image of the back of the lip with a crayon - like making a relief pattern - then transferred that to a piece of cardboard for stability. Worked out great for me..........

I wish someone could tell me if the holes I drilled for the A-Spec spoiler can be reused for the TL-S spoiler.

Has ANYONE out there replaced thier A-Spec lip spoiler with a TL-S spoiler and reused the holes?
