Yeah - not sure about doing that myself until I find out what is involved. BUT the spring is not expensive at all........... Might stop the trunk from whacking me in the head when I'm in there looking for something....LOL

On the spring, please have your friend hold on that trunk. This is a two person job and you dont want you be caught by your trunk. I did not buy the trunk removal tools that was recommened. I used a huge vise grip.

I would now suggest using extra 3m tape along the entire edge of the spoiler at both ends.

To the people who already installed theirs following my posts, I apologize. I wish I would have found out about this earlier.
Last week I finally decided to re-mount the spoiler to the trunk. I first marked the corners of the spoiler on the trunk with a wax pencil and then started pulling it up. The 3M tape had a strong bond and I don't think the spoiler would ever get blown off. I had to use floss to cut through some of the 3M tape. It came off just fine and the 3M tape was still usable.

I then decided to use two of the original mounting bolts that came with the spoiler. I put them back in place and aligned the spoiler on the trunk lid with my wax pencil marks. I tapped on the spoiler to mark the holes to be drilled with the bolts that put little dents on the lid. I drilled the holes with a Unibit, (super easy). Got rid of the burrs and then used touch up paint to paint the bare metal. After the paint dried, I dropped the spoiler in place. The old 3M tape held the middle of the spoiler down perfectly. The nuts were tightened on the two bolts I used and it looks like it's there to stay.

I didn't use any of the plastic clips that came with the spoiler so I didn't have to drill any additional holes in the trunk lid.

I now recommend this mounting method with at least two bolts instead of using only 3M tape.

Good luck on the re-mounts.

Crook and others...
Part of the problem we're experienceing is the use of the 3M tape.

I suggest you review "revolts" pictures. He bought 2 more studs, modified the spoiler to accept them, drilled 2 more holes (4 total) then reinstalled the spoiler with almost no 3m tape (other than on the front edge where the little tabs of tape lived.

Much more snug mounting, no edge lifting, and a VERY secure install.

I have the parts, that's my Sunday project.

Thanks Kennedy,
I ended up using two bolts on the outside edges so there is no chance of it curling up. The middle of the spoiler won't buckle up either because of the distance that the holes were drilled apart. I kind of had to pull and try to stretch the spoiler to to get the bolts to go into the holes in the trunk lid and that tightened down the middle of the spoiler which still had plenty of 3M tape.

Revolt did a good job. I think he figured out the best way to mount it.

Just bought a brand new type-s deck lid spoiler on ebay for $120. Look around, because most people search for the accesorie deck lid, they rarely run into these deals. Only problem is that I have a 07 CGP, Type doesnt come that color, so the dealer is chargin me 190 to repaint and install, which is not bad, but almost 300 dollars at the end. Type-s much smoother that accessorie lid. Still regreting not buy a type s

Mine has been holding up fine. It still looks like the day I first installed it. Then again, I live in San Diego so I don't encounter very harsh weather.

AcuraTLboi, go with just tape and see how it works out for you. You can always use the bolt method if tape doesn't work. With tape, its reversible.

Good luck!

I practically followed Crook's pictures and added additional tape to minimize gaps between the trunk and the spoiler. Pay attention to the edges of the spoiler and try to figure out how to minimize gaps there.

Man, I just saw your thread in the Photo Gallery. We're gonna be twins pretty soon (almost).

Type-S wraps around the trunk whereas the regual spoiler does not. I did mine almost a year ago and it is holding up perfect.

I went to the local body shop and they used production grade adhesive to stick it on. No holes for me please, I don't want no leaks in the trunk. Cost $50 to get is stuck on for life.

In the process as well...was set on the 2 bolt method...now I'm reading the 4 bolt method and could use your help...
Think the photobucket requires a password...thanks!

Mine too! The 3m tape has worked fine so far. It's been 18 months since its been on. It does help that I live in Florida and the car is in the garage all week.

Quick Reply: I have installed a type-S spoiler on my 05 TL
