Early '04's transmission Recall

reviving this thread. My transmission just failed. Will drive for about 2 to 3 minutes and then coast as the RPMs just rev higher. Parked it and heard a loud "CRUNCH"
Car: 04 TL\Nav 97000 miles. Had a 100k mile warranty but expired in September.
Mine is at the 70xxx VIN. Took it to the dealer and he tells me the gears are chipped and are slipping and that they basically replaces the pieces and not take apart anything?
Somebody mentioned it gets hot in the cabin, even with the heater off and mine does that. After reading all these threads, it sounds like it's doing the same thing as what the recalled versions were doing? I also baby my car and do every maintenance notice. Well, took it to the dealer and is looking to charge me $4300-25%(goodwill gesture).
Total cost: $3400
not sure if this thing is worth it, now the rearview mirror dim feature just broke, the liquid inside just leaked out.
