I need to add transmission fluid to my 2007 acura TL. I can feel it struggling through early gears and not shifting until about 3K RPMS, sometimes higher if I am harder on the gas.


I tried to get to the 17mm bolt, but it is a tough fit, due to the fuse box. I took off the fuse box from its mountings, but am reluctant to remove the connections into the fuse box. I am also using about 10" in extensions just to get to the blot, and know its going to be hard to add fluid once I do get the bolt off.


Can I add transmission fluid straight into the transmission dip stick?

<p>Ummmm .. before you <em>feel it </em>out, take a peek at that dip stick you are pulling out and check your levels. You shouldn't be topping off tranny fluid. If you are, you have bigger problems.</p>

 

I never got the issue people had with the fill bolt. I didn't need to remove the fusebox or anything of the sort. 2 extensions (~1.5 feet) on a 1/2" drive breaker bar, some elbow grease and I broke it loose. I'm sure others can do it too.

As ulrblitzer said though, don't just top it off! If there's a leak, that's an issue, and the procedure is usually do drain 3 quarts and fill 3 quarts.

 

I used to fill via the fill bolt BUT, one day I forgot to put that o-ring back on.
Upon next drain and fill, I had such a hard time trying to get the bolt loose that I gave up and made my own contraption to fill it through the dip stick tube.

Bet you those that have an issue removing the bolt might have that aluminum o-ring missing.

 

I will check for a leak.


If you looked at the video I've attached, and I used this video as a reference, the fuse box is farther over in this 2004 model compared to my 2007 model. The fuse box is even orientated differently on my 07 model. If I did not un-mount the fuse box I would not have been able to even access the fill bolt for the transmission.




I will be adding the fluid little by little, to assure I do not overfill/top off. I do know too little fluid can cause slipping, but too much can as well.

just remove the bolt that hold the fuse box then push it to a side and all you need is a long extension. Make sure to put a rag or something by your fender so the ratchet wont damage it in case it broke loose.
