Not that I have anything against Castrol Edge. Ive been using that stuff in Wifey's Sonata for the last 96,000km. But "comparable" seems like a stretch to me... I dunno what you're comparing.

Fuuuuuu....

That grinding feeling is the worst. Makes my skin crawl. I've been lucky with both of my cars thus far, but I did mark one of the Sonata wheels about a year and a half ago.

Quality-wise, according to various BITOG blackstone oil analysis. It's no wonder they're comparable in price when they're comparable in constitution and "performance". Either way, it's summer. Not exactly known to be brutal in Canada...

And yeah the grinding surprised me. Really didn't feel like I was this close to the curb and stupidly didn't bother checking my passenger mirror tilted down. I was looking at the car behind me while backing out and failed to notice he was right against the curb. The wheels aren't anywhere new or expensive though so in the end it doesn't bother me all that much. I'll throw some elbow grease on them at some point, maybe during winter and make them look better if necessary.

I question BITOG. It really makes me wonder. I'm not saying it's not trustworthy, but I also don't know that it is. Like I said, I put in penizoil synchromesh in my civic back in the day, which they claim right on the bottle that it's equivalent to GMs stuff, because I couldn't find the GM stuff, and it was shit. My car didn't shift any better at all. It reacted the same as the used honda oil I had in the transmission. I also don't know anyone who uses penizoil. I hear people using every other brand but. Clearly it sells somewhere because they're still in business, but people who love their cars seem to stay away from it.

Oddly enough, the guy I bought the Miata from ONLY runs M1 0w40. Apparently his close friend is a petroleum engineer who owns an independent oil lab and this guy says no other oil compares. And apparently it's only that weight of oil that is so good. The guy I bought the car from runs it on his M3, previous 1M, current X1, his current Miata and his last two miatas, religiously. And none of them call for that weight of oil.

I dunno if I should continue the trend. It just seems wrong to me. I've never used anything other than what is spec'd by the manufacturer. That M1 0w40 apparently has shit in it that others don't, or just more of it than others.

I take the opinions with a grain of salt, but Blackstone Labs is a third party specializing in oil analysis. They give you your numbers, a recommendation by their specialists but the rest is up to you.
Guys on BITOG share their analysis looking for opinions and that's where you need to draw the line and take what you want.
All in all though, most if not all top tier synth oils behave similarly under normal operating conditions on the majority of cars. 5K miles seem to be the general minimum mark for oil to show any sign of deterioration (and we're not talking about it breaking down completely here) and it's usually on DI and/or FI cars.

I'm not exactly worried and I think it could be a fun exercise for me to send my M1 oil for analysis and how it fared over the winter which is usually the roughest for the oil used in Canada, just for the sake of it. Then I can run Pennz Plat and send that too and compare.

BITOG is fucking garbage, worst than H-T. Everyone claims to be a chemist but the only degree they have are in picking hairs off the ground with their buttholes. Do yourself a favor and don't read any of that shit. Pennz is overpriced, all marketing like many.

Good morning, Boys...
PB, I've had good luck with spraying plastidip into the cap and touching up with a small brush. I'd also suggest you use a dremel and grind down any ridges in the rash.

Long weekend, coming right up!

Like I said though, you gotta know to cut through the opinions and stick with the oil analysis. I don't push past the 5K miles between oil changes and at $34 for the Pennz Plat, that's the lowest price I can usually get for between 4.4L to 5L of synth motor oil. Last year I nabbed M1 for that price and a M1 oil filter for $14 and got the oil change done somewhere (was sketchy AF the whole time) for a grand total of like $60. At $12 for the workmanship I decided it wasn't worth my time to even get under the car and get my hands dirty. Still checked the level, the oil filter for leaks and the drain bolt after though.

Thanks for the experience tip. I might fix them properly during winter but for I don't care enough for the car to be perfect, even for summer. Probably going to the dip trick though.

Wait wtf, he wants to refinance his ILX??? Since when?

I met him about a year and a half ago and he already had the ILX, Shouldn't it be like 1/3rd paid off by now?

Then again IIRC he works at a gun range north of LA, can't imaging there being big money in that

He advised some guy in RLX to chase down a 90 year old lady while simultaneously calling 911 to report a minor parking lot rub. Then lie to the cops that the bitch hit and run, when OP clearly stated that she didn't even notice she hit him.
