Biggest change on the page is the 2007 gets day time running lights. I HATE DTRL!!!!
Looks like there is anti-pinch on the power windows. Leads me to believe there are one touch auto up and down on all windows. ( Don't know if it's that way on the 2006.)
Integraded saftey belt? not sure what that is. 2007 doesn't have it.

i'm in the same boat with you mike...if there isn't something substantial you can expect, 06 MT Navi in my garage and i'll be expecting to pay under 30 for it.

And you if you looked at Acura's marketing of the 2006 TSX, "new, more powerful engine" (9 hp wahoo)... which was merely a VTEC change and some minor exhaust tuning. Given Acuras propensity to market nominal tuning for minor gains, I'd suspect the 15 HP bump is all we're gonna get... and I highly doubt the J35 is coming to the TL if it's not coming to China too. They're made in the same plant.
This of course says nothing to the highly speculative TL-S and what engine may be in that.

Ok look guys...I have been following this post religiously since it first came out. I've never really posted much given that I'm not much for pure speculation.
Thing is, though, that if the TL comes out with anything north of 280 HP with the current FWD set up, the weight balace, torque steer, and sheer handling of the car will all be comprimised.
The rumors of this 295 HP TL is absurd. If and only if they actually fit it with SH-AWD will it become reasonable.
If, however, it remains FWD and has 290+ HP I wouldn't even take a second look at it and go for the IS350, 330i or 07 G35.
Back in 1996 I remember TOPGEAR ( a birtish motoring show) said that there is only so much power that you can give to a FWD car. Back then they believed it was 220 HP.
In any event, a 3.5 liter engine with a lot more HP doesnt make sense on the current set up. It would obviously cost north of 38k, and at that price you could go for the above mentioned cars which would result in a much better driving experience.
AND BY NO MEANS GET ME WRONG... I LOVE MY TL AND I AM A DIE HARD TL FAN.
All Im saying is that TL will lose its edge if its the same price as these cars, with the same HP rating, but it is FWD. Hope that makes sense.
Cross your fingers for SH-AWD EVERYBODY!
Cheers!

I wouldn't be surprised if the standard TL has a few more ponies. However, a 290hp SH AWD while enticing, will also weigh quite a bit more as well as bump up the cost. So who knows how 'siginficant' the performance gain will be. Just does not seem practical to me. And Honda is a very practical company.
This is of course pure opinion though. Part of me thinks maybe somewhere in the middle. A Type S with more HP but still FWD.
Everyone screams torque steer but several car makers are making more and more powerful FWD cars. The upcoming Mazdaspeed 3 got laughed at for having some 270+ hp but the few that have driven it say its quite a hoot to drive. Honda if anything, is known for handling and pioneering new ways of handling. So who knows.....

Hi Kennedy,
I just wanted to clear this up for you...the TSX did not gain 9 HP, I speculate it gained appx 15-18 HP on a 4 banger...not bad!
The reason for this is the old HP rating on the TSX was NOT SAE NET. The SAE NET rating for the old TSX before mods was never published.
For example now that the Chinese spec engine is rated at 273 HP (SAE NET), it is not correct for me to assume a 3 HP gain, comparing it to the NON SAE NET rating of 270 HP.
Just thought I'd give share
Cheers

I understand Acura modified thier engine output standards to bring them into compliance with updated SAE standards, which happened in 2005. That's not the point, nor was it the point of Acura's marketing of fht e 2006 TSX.
The point is, Acura modestly increased the output of the TSX engine, to the tune of 10 HP (at the crank, in the way high RPM range), and touted this change as "the new, more powerful 2006 TSX". Read it on the Acura's homepage... "an upgraded 205 HP engine graces the 2006 TSX".
I also have no doubts these upgrade we're implemented to compensate for the "perception of lost HP" from 05-06, when the new SAE stadards we're adopted. They had to do this to legally say the TSX was in the 200's.
I highly suspect Acura has done the same thing with the TL for 2007, especially since the goal appears to be 270 HP. The new SAE standards put the existing J32 engine at 258 HP in 2006, and it appears to be back at 273 in 2007... doing so accomplishes the 270HP goal, "fixes the lost HP", and allows Acura to say "new, more powerful TL".
It's also pretty keen for Acura to ensure that the J32 stays a good 20+ HP away from the J35 equipped RL, when it could obviously easily be tuned to close to 290 HP.
Too bad those new 15 horses are near redline, and you'll seldom, if ever, feel them.

Acura didn't "drop" any HP from 05-06. it just was re rated using a more stringent (SAE) hp rating. The 05 and 06 are identical in terms of real power. I'm assuming you know this, but the language in your post doesn't seem so.
why do you 'highly' doubt that HP for 07 will be under 280? anything above 270 for an FWD car is virtually unchartered (with exception of the Pontiac Grand am GXP, which rides on WIDER front tires than rear) and the Mazdaspeed 3 (upcoming model).
As i mentioned earlier if its in the 280 or 290 range one would expect AWD, but that also makes it a sketchy mix for Acura- it'd be a heavier, pricier TL...which = RL.

Acura89TL, not sure if you meant it that way but Acura did not decrease the power of the TL's engine. Since the new standard of measuring hp is the the SAE standard, the TL's power rating was measured at 258hp accourding to SAE standards. Ironically, Ratings for hp in american cars went up like in the Corvette.

He obviously doesn't know this... which is critical to understanding my post. His 2004 is much faster than my 2006, becasue Acura just "dropped the HP" for shits and giggles, so they can say they increased it again in 2007.
Your exactly correct. 280+ HP, in a car infamous for bad torque steer, is a corporate liability waiting to happen. Increasing the HP output to reach that 270 mark appears to be the goal.
and a TL-S with 290+ and SHAWD, if offered, will be a rebadged RL, with a near matching price tag... no thanks.

Okay, I realize this thread has a main topic, but I have a 2003 TL type S and thinking about getting one. How's the mpg? As in how much do you spend in a week usually for gas? In a month? Is maintaining the vehicle pretty high?

I dont think Acura can get 290 out of a 3.2 SOHC but can in a 3.2 DOHC like the NSX C-series engine
(Remeber, these are "at the wheel" figures. Typical drivetrain loss is 10-15%. That's over 300HP at the crank.
Even if the dyno is not that accurate, it shows the tunability of the engine, and the fact there's plenty of tuning room.
290 HP is dangreous in a FWD car (hell, it's dangerous with 260), but also infringes on the RL's marketshare...

to answer quickly: i get about 16 city 20 highway. Maintenance is low. just add a quart of oil every 1500 miles and regular oil changes at 3500. Like any car, just take care of it- i've had no more issues with it than my old civic.

2007 G35 info released today
Been lurking for a while... waiting for 2007 TL info like the the rest of you. This may be interesting for some since I have seen 2007 G35 speculation come up a few times. Nissan released their info today. Hope Acura does on TL soon! Not meant to hijack this thread or take off topic but since some will cross shop 2007 TL with the 2007 TL....

once the official 2006 honda clearance sale ends i suspect we will see the numbers. no sense in lowering your earnings any more than you have to by announcing the 07 models when you're still trying to liquidate the 06's.

From the rumors, the 07 G35 is supposedly priced lower or same as the current G. I can already see the sales dropping like hell for the 07 and 08 TL.

I believe the coupe is less powerful b/c it has not been updated yet but should be soon.

Yea sorry i didnt read the intro paragraph lol. So its going to be rated the same as the IS350, i wonder what the torque is going to be rated at. May also be the same as the Lex.
I know the coupe isnt updated for 07 but why reduce the power? Just leave it like it is.

He seemed happy that the new ratings were close to the old. I am not positive on this... I don't follow the coupe info too much.
