I find it surprising that people still listen to FM radio - not to mention AM radio! Oh, the horrors of poor sound quality, limited selection, and constant commercials!

I haven't listened to FM radio in over 15 years since my first vehicle with satellite radio and that is being replaced by much higher quality streaming music.

I listen to local HighDef AM radio talk shows hosted on a side band FM channel.

Otherwise I mostly listen to Spotify or something saved to my phone. Sirius is a non starter for me - I find it really irritating when it loses signal for a few seconds and it does it ALL THE TIME in my area. Tall trees, mountains, building corridors.

Oh the horror! We still listen to the radio!

What streaming is "much higher quality"?

The top end of FM radio is limited to 15 kHz and the dynamic range is highly compressed.

Satellite radio has a very low bitrate and is full of digital artifacts.

Virtually any streaming service like Pandora, Spotify, Slacker, iHeartRadio, Apple Music, etc. offers higher quality audio than satellite and FM/AM (including HD versions of the latter, which are highly compressed).

Ironically, SiriusXM's streaming app offers higher quality than their satellite broadcast.

The advertisers, program managers and station owners aren't. They've come to realize that there is life away from 'smart' devices as well as content other than music.

I didn't mean that OTA audio is great but I did mean to say that though streaming may be higher quality than OTA but is not HQ compared to uncompressed.

I wish the RDX still came with a CD player! I have 100's of CDs that are gathering dust now

I guess quality is in the ear of the beholder..

A few times I turned the car on and the right screen was stuck on "radio loading" it defaulted to an Espn channel. I've never listened to that channel before and wasn't playing when I last shut down. A couple times I shut down playing XM and it still went to this random AM or FM Espn channel. Thought that was unusual.

Out of curiosity regarding this issue more than anything I've been listening to AM radio for the last week. The system is set with NAV on the left screen and AM on the right and has worked flawlessly - no 'loading loop', no lockups, nothing, just working as it should.

Naturally as soon as I posted this the very next time I started the car it went into the 'loading loop'. I left it there for an entire 20 minute trip and nothing changed. Six hours later I started the RDX again and it was still 'looping' - a quick press of the 'AM Radio' icon on the main infotainment screen got things back in operation.

Still the only time I've gotten this to happen in when it's in AM radio mode, FM and SiriusXM have been working fine.

Every day after I start the car I try to see how far I can drive before the screens boot up. It's become a fun game to play. Some days with no traffic I can get almost a mile before it loads.

Interesting. You got better results than I did. I was told that they have no idea when the fix is coming. Moreover, they put the monkey on either the dealer or me to find when an update is available. They WILL NOT notify owners even though they built the car. They recommended that I call them periodically to inquire into an update. I cannot believe how their so-called client relations is so ridiculously crappy.

Today when driving the car I saw a red 1 over the update icon on the main screen of the radio. When I tried to update through my wireless router, it said my system is up to date. That's the second time that has happened.

I called them yesterday and received a call from an "expert" today who told me he didn't have any idea when an update will be available. They need to get their act together.

Thanks

See post #57. I already called acura; got a case #; received a call today; was told they have no idea when the fix will be issued; waiting for a call from a manager so I can ask why their information is inconsistent. #notagoodcompanytodealwith

I've had my RDX for about a month, and I experience the same problem. Happens quite frequently when AM Radio is on the right display panel.
It's quite random, but frequent and annoying. Once, the right display panel showed "Loading..." for the AM Radio, and the station was actually
playing thru the speakers. Twice this happened: "Loading..." was displayed for FM Radio, BUT an AM Radio station was playing thru the
speakers -- after pressing the track pad, the FM station loaded correctly.

One thing to keep in mind is intermittent issues almost always tend to be software issues. Usually if there is a hardware item failing the issue is more consistent. I say this so users don’t expect a “new head unit” to fix issues that are actually software issues.
Also maybe the new infotainment update released today will address many of these software bugs

I just loaded the update. Started car and let it boot up. Xmradio came on and Nav booted up. Tried to use toggle on steering wheel and got same error message system not available on the HUD.
I’ll drive tomorrow to see if anything else pops up.
