Try getting a reflector from the junk yard or ebay or somewhere. Although used, the condition will be fine as long as it wasn't in an accident since nothing can really touch it anyway.

I had intentions of getting the aero bumper from Curry Acura from NY, but I didn't feel like driving all the way down from Toronto and I didn't wanna pay duties/taxes coming back. Ain't no way I can sneak both base and aero bumpers back lol. I think dch or some other dealer offers free shipping, but you'll need to confirm since it's an oversized item. Good luck!

I got price quotes from both Bernardi and Delray Acura. Delray ended up winning and here was their price breakdown they emailed to me. They gave me a 5% acurazine discount. This is also from 3.5 years ago so things might be slightly different now.

Once the bumper comes off there may be more damage ubderneath. When I got rear ended, body shop total came close to $3.5k.

 

Yeah dude you never know, take it to the most expensive body shop in town and get an estimate.. Then send it to the Mexicans insurance company and get THAT CHECK! IMHO your whole exhaust could be pushed in and down and bent now and may need to be replaced or will never sit straight. My car was tapped in the rear and the stock exhaust never sat straight.. Even after two trips to the muffler shop to adjust hangers and such.

 

That's what im wondering. The guy who hit me had allstate and the weird thing is they will do the estimate over the pictures that i sent them this morning through the app....

 

All state is going to lowball you as much as possible. Along with any insurance company doing the estimate themselves.. Never accept their first initial estimate and settlement check.. If it gets nasty enough threaten to get a lawyer. Next step is to go to the doctor and make sure you don't have whiplash.. The Mexicans insurance has to cover that too.

 

Also make sure that whichever body shop you go to does the estimate with ONLY HONDA/ACURA OEM REPLACEMENT PARTS! Some shops work hand in hand with these insurance companies and will throw any fucking thing on your car and just throw a coat of paint on it.

 

^this is so true. Remember all those rep bumpers you see on ebay and the like? If you didn't know anything about cars and just got the bumper replaced from a random shop, I'm guessing there's like an 80% chance you'd get something non-OEM.

Demand all OEM estimate even if you're gonna end up buying an aero bumper yourself. That way you can pocket more cash.

 

ok so i got the estimate back at a little over $800 from the guy's insurance. They are gonna most likely just send me a check for that amount.
I went through their PDF they sent me and it was like "we may use aftermarket crash parts"

So we called them and asked for a check and they said they can do that. The cost to fix it myself is $700 assuming nothing else is busted.

Now im gonna demand a OEM bumper and see if they give more $

They were trying to give me some "CAPA certified" aftermarket POS thing

 

Tell them you're going to CAP-A gat in their ass if it isn't OEM.

Yeah, I'd call bullshit on that estimate.

Take *your* car to *your* choice of body shop. Get an estimate for OEM parts. Get three estimates if you can. I can almost guarantee it'll come to more than $800.

Went through nearly the same thing on a Honda car and it was nearly $1400. In my case, difference between OEM and CAPA was only like $20. But still. OEM > bs. You can bet they'll use the aftermarket on your ride if given the option.

Take the highest estimate and send it to his adjuster. Keep the second highest for backup if they push back.

Just because their cheapass ghetto shop can fix it for 800 doesn't mean you'll be able to. Play dumb and don't let on that you're planning to do it yourself. Insist you're a moron and need the local shop to do it and this is their rate... Etc.

I did look behind my bumper and under the car and nothing appears to be bent / damaged. The foam on the bar isn't even cracked.

 

Kiss my ass 800?! doesn't cover shit dude.. As long as that check they sent you isn't cashed then it has not been settled at all.. PLEASE just take it to a HIGHLY reputable body shop in the area (I'm talking shops that make high end cars come out flawless). They will keep the fullest attention to detail in highest priority and even if it means fixing it through them and no modulo bumper, at least you know it was fixed right.. Now all you have to do is get somebody to back into the front of you for the free front bumper paint job (only jokes insurance trollmen)

P.S. Dont be brown and try to fix it yourself and pocket cash if it's more than cosmetic, anything structural and you let the pros handle it k?

 

I didn't even agree to the check yet, nothing is confirmed / sent yet.

Im gonna take it to a good shop i know tomorrow and get a quote.
also it's not really that I want to fix it myself, it's that i want that Modulo rear end lol.

 

I can say for certain that the bumper and reflectors are quoted at aftermarket rates. Check the PN's: they aren't Honda PN codes. So there's at least another $120 right there. Exhaust finisher is OEM.

Probably a little short on labor too. If there's a range on the job time, they're going to quote the low end. You want the high end of the range. Probably another $2-300 there.

Prompt your shop to include the foam absorber too. That's another $65ish. They might not want to since they typically won't be willing to do any disassembly to generate the estimate and thus can't actually inspect it to say it needs replacement. But if you chat them up, maybe they'll be willing to add it as a "goodwill" conservative estimate.

 

These are all very good tips. I want a modulo.

I got my body shop to order the modulo, and they agreed since they didn't have to paint it.

 

I have allstate too and what I did to make sure I got only OEM parts is I took it to the Acura bodyshop (name of my dealer is John Eagle Acura so I went to the John Eagle bodyshop). They would not use aftermarket parts so I got all OEM parts. The guy who I worked with noticed that my underbody lip things were scratched from going over steep rakes (not from accident) and replaced both for me also.
