Not my cup of tea, but the Aussie OEM looks a lot better than these. A few of the local guys are running them.

I actually like the look of the thinner ones better but then again, greater the area the better for this type of mod I suppose

too low, IMHO.

because i'm a perfectionist, I would want to wash the cars myself, then continue to clay and paint correction.

if they come to you already washed, it could be some half ass job, then your pads pick up that dirt.
then you're spending time and money on cleaning the pads and buying new ones...

I'd pay $60 for a good job!

Local place by me has always interested me. They're constantly busy and have some nice cars going through (not quite exotic) so it seems like they do a decent job. They start at $165.

High end place I know of (mostly exotics) start at $170.

All include wash as a part of getting it ready.

And I'm with crabs. I wouldn't do a car without the wash first.

And I'd be hesitant to touch someone elses car that came "pre-washed" for the reasons he mentioned. It'll pick up some grit on the drive over at least. I"d want to start on a clean canvas.

Yeah, I washed my truck this weekend. Was the first time in a while a neighbor didn't hurpdurp by all "hurr, do mine next?"

But I was thinking about it... I'm too old for this shit. They'd need to peel off hundys to get me motivated to wash a car that isn't mine.

For profit purposed you might need to up the price. I was quoted $50 for just a wash and wax. For wash, Clay, polish, wax was starting at $150 around my area.

4 Hrs of labor plus material, you basically are paying out of your pocket for material or giving free labor and just making enough for material.

great point and what I was trying to hint on earlier.

if you're offending your clientle, then its the wrong group of people to go after.

as your work and results should speak for themselves.

Whatever you decide to do, don't clay/polish it unless you washed it immediately before. The slightest bit of dirt would've gotten onto the vehicle when it was getting from A (where it got washed) to B (you), and claying/polishing with that bit of dirt could induce even more swirls. Best case, you notice it's dirty and end up denying the customer after they've already trekked to your place, and he/she will probably give you an earful for wasting their time.

If you decide to detail it, you must wash it yourself.

That would be a steal here in the SF Bay area. Think $180, and you aren't getting clay bar etc. Just a wash polish wax and interior detail.

By the time I factor in gas to MN, I don't think its quite the steal, but you'd still be OK if I washed it before I left home?

So they think I'm ripping them off for $100.00 detail. Sent them to the fancy car wash place, undisclosed the price, and a few of them got pissed. ($150.00 for wash and wax).

Yeah, that's exactly it. It's not a quick and easy service if you want it done right. It's the old "better, faster, cheaper: pick 2" scenario.

If you're really doing a good job with quality materials, then you need to emphasize the attention to detail you provide. That you are really respecting their cars and treating it like your own and not just as a no hable English getem done job shop.

And if they don't want to pay it, then that means they don't appreciate and/or respect your time and attention. Their loss.

Now, if you're just doing a tosser job and $60 is all its worth, well that's a different story. But a 3 hour job doesn't sound like that's what you're doing.

If you're doing 105 AND 205 followed by wax, definitely need more than a 50 to get me to do that job. I did mine recently and literally took me 2 days. Granted it was my first time and it's my own car so I was trying to be extra careful. I'm not sure how you could do all those 3 within 3-4 hours to be honest.

Also, no reason to low-ball yourself so others can be happy. You're putting in time and money of buying the products. Depending on how many steps you do and the size of the car, you should definitely start at nothing less than $100 (which it seems you already asked someone).

Also start taking before and after pictures of the work you've been doing. That's something I would want to see if I let someone detail my car. It lets me know that you know what you are doing and gives me the extra motivation to get my car to look like that.

Good work is not cheap and cheap work is not good. I see this apply to more and more things on a daily basis. If they are offended, have them do it themselves. Make sure you wish them luck.

This is why I could not detail for a living. I love to do my own cars, maybe a few family members, but I have a feeling the general public would screw it all up for me.

It's nice damn $800, I wonder if it's wrapped stock parts or if it's real carbon fiber.
