New iPods Sept 5th, let's speculate!!
OK so big announcement from el Jobso Sept 5th. It's supposed to be OS X based iPods (defintiely)and possibly the announcment of the Beatles on the iTunes music store(not sold on this one). The bigger iPods should be touchscreen like the iPhone and the nano is rumored to be short and fat (not phat). This pic is 19 months old actually but I expect the touchscreen iPods to look like this:

The nano is rumored to look like this

On the Beatles thing, IDK they do have all the member's solo stuff on there but IDK if Apple records would do it after losing the lawsuit to Apple, inc. IDK if it would really boost sales, it's not like the only way to play the beatles music on the iPod is by buying the music from the iTunes store. Would anyone on here buy the beatles music from iTS even though you have it on CD? Then there's the phrase "the beat goes on" which is the slogan given to this whole shindig on Sept 5th, which also happens to be the last line from the beatles last press release in which they said that the band had broken up. I just remember it as something Macho man randy savage used to say!!

I don't think the touch screen will make it (named "iPod touch"), but an upgraded Nano with 16 GB flash and psuedo widescreen video playback.
If anything, they will throw the OS onto the 80 gb version and then say that the Beatles are now on iTunes.

Why wouldn't the touchscreen make it? They've got the iPhone you just take away the phone and internet features and throw in an 80gB hard drive. If the touch doesn't come I'm gonna be pissed. I've seen videos of the UI on youtube (i'd post them but Apple legal got them pulled) and that video ipod pics is going on 2 years old they've had this stuff for a while. Plus samsung announced a touchscreen player recently so Apple's gotta keep up in the market they created.
This "the beat goes on" thing has got me thinkin, maybe it's a macho man randy savage iPod!! I'd so get one!! It'd be like neon green with black zebra stripes on it with tassles and it'd come with a container of slim jims!!

Speaking of the Macho Man, here's another great interview.

I can't believe the OP started out iPod and ended up Randy Savage
Not since the days of Water-S has such a twist has ever happened.
I miss Elizabeth
and I heard that the new iPods will play music.

The new iPod video will also come with a wide-screen panel, high storage capacity and Wi-Fi connectivity, the sources indicated. In addition, the new iPod video is expected to be powered by NAND flash, instead of a hard disk drive (HDD).
Vnunet cites a "reliable industry insider" and claims that Apple's new iPods will be able to receive digital radio and include a "buy-now" function that will allow the user to download and buy tracks as they are being played.

If they only offer flash versions then you can count me out. I want an 80gb version now that my 30gb is getting full. Plus if it's some widescreen touch I'd be putting videos on that left and right and I'd run out of space real fast. I think some of these sites aren't thinking before they post. They can't make 16gb or 32gb their smallest especially for a video iPod that's already to small for a music iPod.
Actually the real question begging to be answered as brought up by Tireguy is WILL IT BLEND!?

I always wanted to upgrade to a video, but my 3G still works perfectly. maybe I can leave it in my car all the time, except to put on new music, and upgarde to something new.
do the current ipod videos still only play mp4 files? I'm waiting for them to play wmv's and avi's without having to convert them. Maybe if the new ones are OSX based, you can add aftermarket software?

Target is prepping for a major product introduction timed with Apple's music-focused special event, AppleInsider has learned. Meanwhile, other sources have also let slip signs of impending iPod and iPhone updates.
Target gears up for new iPod launches
An internal note distributed to employees of the large retailer's electronics department is advising them to be ready for an unknown, but very significant, product announcement on Wednesday for which Target will be one of the first resellers.
In a copy provided to AppleInsider, the memo is vague and notes that one or more "high retail" (high profile) and "high theft" products will ship directly to Target outlets almost immediately after their formal introduction on September 5th. The products would arrive between Thursday and Saturday, but would be of sufficiently high priority that it might reach shops outside of normal hours at the shipping docks, Target said.
While there is no name attached to the manufacturer of the products involved in the launch, it wouldn't take much speculation to link Target's preparations with Apple's special event on Wednesday, which is expected to introduce several next-generation iPods.
Newspaper claims iPhone nano, iPod Wi-Fi in the pipeline
Citing documents obtained by a company partnered with Apple, the Washington Post's Sam Diaz claimed in a weekend article that at least two frequently rumored devices were planned for the "coming months."
One of these would be a touchscreen iPod with Wi-Fi, Diaz said. But the Cupertino, Calif.-based company was also planning an "iPhone nano," which would drop prices below the $500 mark of the current iPhone.
Diaz provided no details of when either product would arrive in stores, but has made his claims just ahead of Apple's September 5th iPod-related event. The update also reinforces AppleInsider's reliable sources which pointed to a smaller iPhone likely to ship sometime in the fall.
