Found it for you, I'm so nice!

I originally start with the high profile preset and make some changes. I turn detelecine off cause I don't care about it's framerate since either 24 or 30 will work fine. I set decomb to default since decomb is better than deinterlace I turn deinterlace off. I set denoise to weak, this takes away a slight amount of detail but gets rid off most of the mpeg2 mosquito noise and deblocking is left off. For codec I use h.264 and set the FPS the same as source and use constant quality of anywhere from RF:18.25 to RF:17.75. If it's an old black and white movie I may go higher.

For Audio I remove the 5.1 soundtrack and downmix it to Dolby Pro Logic II. I wanted to keep the 2nd discrete soundtrack but decided not to since HT is in disarray and I didn't want to take up the extra bandwidth.

Subtitles can be tricky cause some movies can use the DVD for foreign langauge parts and some have the the subtitles embedded into the film itself. The Downfall for example is a German movie but I have subtitles disabled since the subtitles are embedded into the movie. If I'm not sure if there's subtitles I'll add an english subtitle track but check the forced only button and choose burned in cause I've had issues with subtitles not showing if I don't burn them in but sometimes they do show, it's hit or miss but it always works if you hit burned in.

Then I leave chapters and advanced tabs alone and these setting work on my iPad and every other device I've tried Mac or PC in the house.

Oh and if a movie is pure black and white with no color tint I'll enable greyscale encoding and that removes all color cause sometimes you can get some slight color noise from crappy mpeg2 compression and greyscale will get rid of all color.

The problem I had before was that it wouldn't autopopulate into 7MC and Metabrowser. I added the .m4v extension into Meta and got it all to work correctly. Using the standard Universal setting in Handbrake worked rather well, I was surprised. No subtitles, which I'm going to have to consider in the future. But the picture looked great on the plasma, really great considering the movie is older than I am.

so ever since I did that clean install on my computer I've had one problem. My cd/dvd drive is all messed up. I normally dont put in CD's but I was trying to watch something a couple weeks ago and when I went to my computer it would say my D:/ was not found. My cd/dvd is my D drive btw. I went to sony's site, all I found was updates for the device I installed that then went to device manager and installed device again. It worked.

Now today when I insert a DVD nothing happens, I click on my CD/Dvd drive and in says insert a blank disc and my tray opens. Earlier I installed my driver by going through device manager and just clicked update driver went to the one already on my computer and clicked install. Tried it again and the DVD worked.

5 hours later I wanna watch something it again, (Big bang theory), I insert the DVD, same thing again, DVD is not recognized because it just wont show up on my computer, and I click on the drive and the tray pops open and says insert CD/DVD, its already in there, close the tray and nothing happens again. I dunno what is wrong. Any help?

edit: I wonder if this is a hardware issue?

edit edit: It works now. Dunno whats going on

check the event log and see if you see anything atapi or cdrom or disk related. It may be hardware or software. The fact that "updating the driver" works is interesting. I'd try uninstalling the drive and deleting the driver files then restarting and do a reinstall of the drive and see what happens. maybe a driver is corrupt, IDK.

Ohh and last night it happened a second time, but this time reinstalling the update or doing w/e i did last time didnt work. This time I got the pressurized air spray and used it in my cd tray. That made it work. So maybe it was to dirty? I dunno. I'll check again later to see if it works still

Stunna, that method for the subs will only show the intended subs and not the whole movie, right?

You can have multiple subtitle and audio tracks too

So I've played with a few macbooks now. I'm still a microsoft guy so I prefer windows 7 to Mac's OS. But I gotta say one feature I love in macbooks are the multitouch pad. Thats one thing windows definitely needs to look into. Otherwise I prefer my windows.

multitouch trackpads aren't new I think they save them for the more expensive models. The HP Envy 14 has a multitouch trackpad

OK, it looks like my brain somehow had an even bigger disconnect than normal. Full Windows Media Center functionality is included in Win 7 Professional? For some reason I had it thoroughly embedded in my brain that Media Center was included in Home Premium, but then you had to jump to Ultimate to get the "kitchen sink's" worth of stuff which includes Media Center.

Is there anything that's in Home Premium which is not in Professional? I'm getting a bit paranoid about this because we are about to start reselling Win 7 at work and our license agreement limits us to to Professional only. I do not want a ticked off user coming back to me after paying us money for Pro and complaining "I used to be able to do [blah] with Home Premium and now I can't with Pro!"

You got the vista mentality stuck in your head, those days are gone. Pro is a superset of premium and has all it's features and more. It was vista business that didn't have the media stuff but had rdp, fax and scan, domain support, etc. that vista premium didn't have

The new Lenovo Thinkpads (T410, T510) have multi-touch pads.

Ok so recently when I've been opening office I get a message that says the version of microsoft you have is not genuine, or something along those lines. Everytime the message pops up I just click remind me later, and I'm able to use it. So will windows ever stop from letting me use it or should I be fine?

You could get the Office viewer programs instead of the full office.

Can't use just viewer, need programs to work with. Problems was just making sure e-mail was working correctly trying to get the d/l's. Live Mail is different from Outlook, was confusing getting things set up, because they refuse to use same terms.

Didn't know about viewer option, good to know.

You probably have to reactivate after reinstalling it, this is normal and nothing to worry about, just do it.

Question about Win7 activation. Friend of mine is getting ready to swap out her mobo, chip and ram. I was going to use the old trick of blowing away everything in the device manager and going from there. Worked countless times for me in XP. Will it require reactivation in 7 though?

I'm sure it will. If it doesn't pass activation then call the number and and read the numbers then they'll give you a code

Its a retail box Home Premium. I thought I read somewhere that was good for 3 activations before they hunt you down. Wish I could remember where I read that.
